Found this nice and cheap little joint while driving from Des Moines to Goodland. You know what you’re getting before you walk in. Diner-style food in a mom and pop environment. Burgers, sandwiches, fries, etc. Nothing special but it’ll satisfy your hunger. The service could not of been kinder too.

We went for lunch and I was not very impressed. Someone ordered the horseshoe and you couldn’t see the meal because it was all covered in nacho cheese but there was supposed to be a burger in there somewhere, he had a few bites and was done. I had the Mexican tostada thing and it wasn’t all that appetizing either the tortilla was a little burnt and there was not much meat in it. My boyfriend got a $ 10 burger which was pretty plain but the meat was really good. We didn’t have breakfast but I’m guessing that is why people come here because the lunch is not all exciting.

The Branding Iron II is located next door east of the Cottonwood Inn motel. The food was quite good and very reasonably priced. Atmosphere isn’t anything special but if one is staying in Phillipsburg, Ks, this is certainly a good place to dine. We had an evening meal here but when we left the next morning, there seemed to be a good number of people having breakfast at the Branding Iron.
