As I have said before … When we embrace the 7 – 11 and Dollar $tore, we lose places like this. Philomont’s Post Office is run in the back of the General Store. This place rocks … and they sell alcohol. I stop here with my kids for snacks and junk food OR to get water when we’re at the playground in the summer. Must see if you’re in the area. If you’re a local? Shame on you for not being a regular. :)

I will agree with Neal E. on this place. Located next to the Fire Station is this little general store. This is one of the better general stores I’ve been to. We came out here today because there was a little crafts festival going on. Everybody was getting hungry so we decided to go in and see what they had. When you first walk it you are greeted by the nice employees. Inside you find wines and your super basic grocery needs. The post office is also located here. At the register they had a small menu of sandwiches. They do have hamburgers and burritos, but these are not freshly made. They are frozen and they will just nuke them in the microwave for you. The deli sandwiches run about 4 – 5 bucks each. And to be honest it is well worth it. My wife had a ham and provolone on rye and I had a country ham on wheat.(mmmm, country ham =)) They even made my 2 year old daughter a half peanut butter and jelly sandwich. The sandwiches are fully loaded with tons of meat, and other toppings, such as tomatoes, pickles, lettuce, onions, and jalapenos. These fully stuffed sandwiches filled us all up and were we happy and on our way. If you are in the area, and you need a bite to eat. Go on in and try the country ham. I saw they had BBQ there also, maybe I’ll try that next time I’m there.

Another awesome little country store! Whenever I see one of these — I absolutely need to stop in and take a look around! The Philomont General Store sits at the crossroads of Jeb Stuart Road and the Snickersville Turnpike — out in the beautiful wilds of Loudoun County. You definitely feel like you’ve stepped back in time a bit when you enter here. While they have a lot of modern goods, the place still has that rustic feel to it! One thing that was kind of wild about this place — the local Philomont Post Office operates out of the back of the General Store. Very cool! And old! And authentic feeling! I wanted a cup of coffee — they were out — but the lady running the place made me a fresh pot. They don’t have Equal or Splenda — if you want your coffee sweetened — your options are sugar or Sweet n’ Low. While I waited for the coffee to brew — I found a bottle of «Kashmiri Curry Gourmet Sauce» that looked interesting. I bought that, the coffee, and a stick of «Naked Bee Lip Balm.»
