Was upstate over the Xmas Holiday with the family. We decided to stop by for some dinner. It’s a very cozy restaurant. About 40 tables plus bar space. We had the 36oz cowboy steak. I like mine rare so it came out as ordered. Nothing like a nice cut of meat. there was a nice char on the outside and the inside was red and rare. We also had the lobster Mac and cheese. It was scrumptious and the portion of lobster was excellent. We also had some chicken dish with salad in it. I don’t recall what the name of it was but that was also tasty. For dessert we had the apple pie and that was also delicious. I found out that everything was made on the premises. The staff was friendly and helpful. On the night I went, the chef made rounds to check to see how everyone liked their food. Next time I’m in the neighborhood I’m definitely stopping by again. The prices reflect the quality and portion of the food. They have a nice big porch so come spring and summer it would make for a great place to just sit back and enjoy the weather while eating a meal and having a drink.

There aren’t many choices of restaurants in Phoenicia and the surrounding neighborhoods. If you’re in the area, definitely make a note to come here. Tavern 214 was conveniently located a stone’s throw away from our hotel. Luckily, in a town like Phoenicia, there are no waits at even the best of restaurants. To start off, we ordered the prosciutto wrapped pear. The combination was very interesting and it was also highly recommended by our server. The dish also comes with goat cheese and almonds as a garnish. The ingredients combined well for a nice, delectable taste. If there is a complaint, it’d be that it was slightly on the salty side. For our entrees, we ordered the cowboy 36oz ribeye which we shared. Make sure to order one level down in terms of wellness, i.e. medium rare for medium. The steak was simply seasoned but was pretty juicy. We upgraded to get sides for two. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the fingerling potatoes or spinach but the greens and asparagus added a nice balance to the meal. We had wine and an old fashioned for drinks. The steak took a bit longer than normal to come out(approx. 30 mins) but the server came over and explained, apologized and offered us complimentary drinks, which we delightfully accepted. Overall, the restaurant does offer a great selection of food but the service experience just made it that much better. One other thing to note is expect NYC prices, although we didn’t mind.

Great food, a gem in the middle of the Catskills. Our last minute reservation on Christmas eve was graciously accommodated with nice table for two(perhaps our festive Santa Claus hats played a role). Our Yellow fin tuna tartare appetizer made for a great presentation and tasted even better. My 16oz NY strip stake was perfectly grilled and melded great with the fingerling potatoes and creamed spinach. My wife had the pan seared local trout, so fresh that she suspected it was caught the same day. This was confirmed when the owner/chef and his wife warmly greeted us and spent time at our table. Their passion for their establishment is clearly evident in the food and atmosphere they create. Great wine selection and exquisite deserts. A wonderful experience from start to finish.

Delicious! Great ambiance, top notch food. The beer list is extensive and the food is seriously great. I had the heritage lamb chop with sautéed string beans and puréed sweet potato with warm peaches. It was out of this world. The piece of meat was juicy and full of flavor. My wife had the scallops and loved them too. They were cooked perfectly. Great experience, will be back.

If possible, I would rate this 4 and ½ stars. Came here on an early Sunday evening with my parents. We started with drinks and an appetizer — the artisan cheese and salumi plate with a really good berry mostarda(berry jam with a hint of mustard). For the main course we got a bottle of cabernet savingnon from Magnificent Wines. The heritage pork chop with pears was really good with an amazing sweet potato purée. Would definitely order it again. The Chipotle braised shortribs with mash potatoes were good, but not a favorite. The Chipotle bbq gravy makes the meal a very strong bbq meal. Thyme basted scallops with goat cheese polenta was also very good. The truffle ragout sauce is a little heavy but the scallops are prefect tender and light. All their food is locally sourced — always a plus for us. For dessert we shared the Apple pie a la mode which was amazing. My mom is a hard apple pie critic and she loved the crust, apples, and ice cream. Our server was very nice, attentive, and helpful. We would definitely come back here if back in this area and would definitely recommend it.

There is not a single thing bad I can say about this place. The service and ambiance was excellent. The craft beer selection is huge. Could always use more on tap but I am being greedy. We had the bruschetta with Boratto cheese to start and it was out of this world. The balsamic was terrific. We had the filet and the lobster mac n cheese for dinner. Tons of lobster and tons of taste in the Mac n cheese. The flirt with the Demi glaze was absolutely perfect and one of the top 3 filets my wife has had. Highly suggest this high end food with local home cooking gem. We will be back!

Great spot! We stopped by for dinner on the later side and were amazed by the awesome food and great service. The burger, filet mignon philly, and the apple pie were all superb. Great bar and ambiance with a roaring fire. We’ll definitely be back the next time we’re in town.

Food was delicious(scallops and pork chop in particular), but long wait to even get served in first place and then for food, and felt overpriced for area.

I must say if everyone had the same passion of Peter and his wife the place would be much better ;service is slow and has some sort of attitude!!! I don’t know why!!! You are in the middle of the Catskills, came twice in a week, food is ok, great steak, the rest is average our waiter Ane or Anne was extremely rude, never paid attention to our table we always had to chaises her down anyway is a long story; but for the Manhattan prices enlist give me the quality and service that New York City offers Or drop the attitude and prices and the rude staff

Based on all the positive reviews, my wife and I decided to splurge and give Tavern 214 a try. We were in Phoenicia for a short vacation, and the menu looked great. We went on a Tuesday night. The restaurant wasn’t too busy and we had a nice table outside. We ordered the asparagus and lobster fritters as a starter. For main dishes, I ordered the trout with polenta, and my wife ordered the trout tacos. The fritters were fine, but nothing to rave about. There were asparagus chunks, but it was hard to tell that there was any lobster or lobster flavor. The main dishes, however, were awful. The trout on my wife’s tacos was barely cooked; it looked almost raw. The tacos lacked any real flavor. My trout was cooked, but it looked like the food had been slapped on to the plate. For $ 32, one expects a bit of effort on the presentation. The trout itself was fine, but I’ve had far more flavorful fish for half the price. The best tasting item on my plate was the polenta. The beer list was good, and we both had good drinks. The service was okay. In general, however, this restaurant was not worth the price, and the food was disappointing. Perhaps their meat dishes are better.

This place has never disappointed and become our favorite in the area. The owners are involved and personable, their passion for great food and service apparent. The nice thing about the menu is you can eat big or small. Appetizers and beer YES or a full dinner. Lobster MAC and cheese is the BEST, sausage sliders, RIBEYE to die for, all good. Great selection of draft beers. Some of the reviews point to slow service, we have never experienced that and I’ve eaten here at l least a dozen times … The staff is quality and abundant but I suppose anyone place could get overwhelmed, I find it unlikely here. TRYIT best in town and their are some other good choices in the area so that’s saying something.

Nicest restaurant in town. Very good food but service is S-L-O-W… It’s not cheap either. Think Brooklyn prices in a rural town. If you are staying in town and don’t want to drive then give it a shot.

A M A Z I N G food, amazing, did I say it was amazing? Owner/chef came out and was so pleasant and excited about his place. His passion and warmth was infectious. I had Filet mignon philly cheese sandwich… you know you don’t even have to ask. Of course it was ridiculously good. My GF had a smoked salmon flatbread… all I say is a wish they had it in a king-size blanket sized… I’d wrap myself in it and eat my way through the weekend. Gorgeous restaurant, great ambiance, fantastic staff. This is a place to visit again and again.

Exactly one year ago, celebrating my Wife’s B-Day, we found this place, took a chance, and were knocked out with the food, service & general vibe of this place. We actually even met the chef who came out to talk to the diners, very classy. This year we decided to go back again, and it was just as awesome! I called first to make a reservation and ask about vegan options, and was pleasantly surprised to be put on the line with the actual chef who assured me he could do whatever we requested. Great, friendly service from the chef, to the hostess, to the waitress, to the bus boy. The vegetable plate made up of locally sourced ingredients, was expertly prepared and absolutely delicious. Our friends were equally impressed with the fish tacos made with locally caught rainbow trout. If you’re a beer lover, you won’t be disappointed by the carefully curated selections of micro brews, seasonal specialties, local breweries, as well as imports. The restaurant itself manages to create a feel that is both upscale without being stuffy or pretentious, while feeling warm and inviting. We dined in the outdoor seating which has lovely views of the surrounding Catskill Mountains, which looked even more impressive with steam rising through the trees after a brief rain fall. A fabulous experience once again, cheers!

Yee-Haw… Or whatever one says when eating a 36 oz Ribeye! Our party was seated immediately, our hostess was an interesting college student who made sure we were well situated. Our server was attentive and the team made sure we were well hydrated. The outside seating is very pleasant, make reservations to be seated outdoors if you enjoy that! Rain or shine! The outside seating is on a nicely designed porch. The green salad with Pear slices easily serves two as an appetizer.

SO much to Yes about. You know those places where everything is done right? Yeah — this is one of those places. The owners are delightful, passionate about their craft, and know their stuff. Nitty gritty — salad was seasoned very well. Ingredients were fresh and flavorful. Nothing was overdone. The number of times I’ve had a salad with chèvre and candied pecans that tastes like balsamic vinegar cotton candy — this was not that. Perfect. Burgers were cooked exactly as requested and were hugely flavorful. Fries were made with fresh cut potatoes, and the aroma of truffles hit my nose before anything else. Dang. The owner gifted us a couple blood orange cosmopolitan’s that my wife dug. Anyhow — it’s a 10⁄10 for this kind of food.

What a find! It’s a MUST if you are in the area . We started with the small portion of lobster Mac and cheese and I wish we ordered the larger portion. The lobster was very fresh. My double cut pork chop with pear gastric. Green beans and sweet purée was the perfect meal. The foods married well. My husband had the burger and he said it was one of the best he’s had. Excellent service as well. I can’t wait to go back !!
