Altera Highland

Almost 2 years! I love this place! It’s close to everything. There for awhile, I was getting very discouraged by all of the construction and having to pay for it. I really wish there could be some kind of reimbursement of some sort to make up for this. However, the end is in sight and things are getting back to normal and we’re excited! The staff is amazing and has always been extremely helpful to my needs. Liz, hands down one of the best people I know and always greets you with a smile. Looking forward to the summer here! Happy 2 years to us!

Pros: Location is as good as it gets for PHX, freeway access, pools are nice, covered parking, clean grounds, and friendly neighbors
Cons: Break-​ins occur frequently, unnecessary fees, thin walls, cheaply built apartments

DO NOT LIVE AT ALTERA HIGHLAND!!! I have been a resident of Altera Highland for 2 years. They will want you to pay $ 1600 for the following type of community:
* They will promise a heated pool, a gym and a hot tub — we have none of those things as they have been «under construction» for months with no end in sight.
* They have promised several deadlines of when these things will be done and all of those deadlines have passed. So essentially you will pay $ 1600 a month to be constantly lied to by the management of this place.
* Management has torn apart this community and just left it torn apart for months with no end date in sight. They literally tore tile out and have not replaced it for months! They have started projects with no intention of finishing them. It looks awful!!!
* There are constantly creepy and nasty construction workers hanging around the outside of your home for $ 1600 a month!!!
* Also they have had ingoing and outgoing traffic coming in one side of the complex for weeks. We are scraping our cars on the signs they have set up separating one entrance because the one entrance is so narrow. Cars can’t get in and out without running into something.
* The community is full of trash
* The community is unkempt, bushes are never trimmed, dog poop everywhere
* Everywhere you walk in this community you see drugs and smell marijuana smoke! Remember folks $ 1600 a month for this!!!
* There are no amenities but you will pay for them
* The air conditioners in this place are way too small for the units so you will be paying $ 200-​$ 300 a month for a/​c but management could care less.
* There are roving gangs of wild cats that have infested the place. You can hear them humping and meowing all night if you leave your window open. Management has made no effort to have these cats picked up by the county.
* This is supposed to be a gated community but the gates are constantly open even at night or are broken.
BEWARE this place has no class but they will ask you to pay for class! The management is only interested in collecting rent for benefits that don’t exist. The only other thing they are interested in doing is lying to their residents about the chaos they have caused in our community.

This is a great community. We walk everywhere, from dinner to grocery shopping to movies to the library. Our neighbors are wonderful. We are glad to be here!

Seven months into a 1 year lease:
The Maintenance staff are professional and respond quickly to make repairs when needed. When we need routine maintenance, I always let maintenance our request is low priority and to complete it when they have time, but unless something needs to be ordered they get to it in a day. I know there are more important issues for maintenance to get to before my non-​emergency repair. (BTW, I have never seen a maintenance person smoking, Ever! There have been contractors doing the remodeling work that might have been confused with staff…
We like the management staff, Liz, Priscilla, and Kaytee have been here since we moved in and have always been kind, responsive to our concerns and have been professional and pleasant to work with.
There are a few feral cats that live on site that are not a problem and keep to themselves. I think the cats are part of a program that traps and neuter the cats then release them where they’re found.
The area here is great! You can walk to so many stores, shops, restaurants, grocery, Public Library, and Piestewa Freeway (SR 51)
There is a fashion mall and Corporate high rise buildings just a few blocks away on Camelback, and a upper scale golf course.
We are fortunate to have several great neighbors that get together frequently to visit.

I loved living here until the management changed! The new people are heartless and not kind! The construction notice I initially received was for 6 days worth of work-​it has been over 6 months! Amenities taken away but NO discount on rent! Seems like a breach of contract! They also retaliated against another for reporting safety issues! The OLD crew was phenomenal! Sad because the apt and area are great but living with such cold-​hearted people running the place ruins the experience.

I lived at Altera Highland for almost five years. It had a couple different holding companies during that time and there were some noticeable ups and downs.
That said, it’s pretty good right now and the renovated units are very nicely done. The maintenance people are really good and respond to requests fast. The property management folks, especially Liz, the property manager, are very easy to work with and pleasant when you have to go pick up packages and whatnot.
I took a half a star off because there were a ton of nails littering the property left over from the reroofing that was done over the summer, but that’s not necessarily the management’s fault as much as their contractor. I also took another half a star off because I had a neighbor who fed birds and cats (pretty humane and nice to do) but then the birds shit all over everything and the cats tore the birds open, all in front of my ‘stoop.’ That was pretty gnarly. I don’t know what the management folks would have done about that (hey, you there, stop feeding the birds), but it’s something I had to experience.
All in all, now that the roofing is done and the unit a prospective lessor would move into is renovated, it’s a good place to consider if you like the area and the rent fits your budget.

I have lived here for almost two years. New management is awful! Seems quite difficult to get a call back or even get anyone on the phone. They give no warning of renovations they began doing with current residents who were as happy as could be. They got rid of all of the fantastic staff members. Garbage everywhere. Looks super ghetto. Doesn’t do anything to accommodate current residents. No discounts on rent. Went to pick up several packages, of which were extremely heavy and Percilla just stood there and watched me struggle to push them out the door and barely get them into the back of my car. Unbelievable customer service to the tenants who have all been so amazing. Has really been quite disrupting living here. Even the new maintenance men are rude, chain smoke everywhere. I’m always walking into clouds of smoke. Gross. I’m a local business owner and people are always asking me about the biltmore area, I say everywhere but here.

I’ve lived here going on two years, new owners ain’t great. I started having problems with my ac in June… They’ve had to come out numerous times to repair. Last time it started having problems My unit was hovering in the high 90’s and the first time they came out they tried to tell me nothing was wrong… Had to file another ticket and it took another day to get someone out again. Fixed it, unit cools to the low 80’s… $ 655 electric bills in the summer, and I live alone. Soon as my lease is up I’m outta this place.

I have lived here for two years. They just recently changed owners and the customer service has dramatically gone down.
