BUYERBEWARE!!! Tim diagnosed that the main video board in our 5-year old SONYTV failed. He quoted a $ 230 – 240 charge to swap the plug-in board & test, less the $ 25 diagnostic fee already paid upfront. I priced the SONY board at $ 75 online plus $ 5 shipping & no tax, so I could not account for his charges. I then called other local shops who quoted us a $ 200 maximum cost if the board was bad. The board is plug & play. When I told Tim that I phoned to have the TV repaired elsewhere, Tim aggressively sold his services and stated that his repair would last 10 years but he only warranted his labor for 30 days. Rather than move the TV to another shop(I am disabled), I agreed to pay an additional $ 215($ 240 less the $ 25 diagnostic fee already paid) as full and final payment since a new TV costs less than $ 500. However, when we picked up the TV, Tim demanded an additional $ 240. When I protested the new price, Tim became quite loud & confrontational until I asked him to settle down. Maybe he should review his store’s video survelliance. He then erroneously stated that he initially asked $ 289 for the repair and that he lowered his fee to «do me a favor». I told my wife of his claim and she hit the roof. TIM’S FANTASTICCLAIMISAGAINABSOLUTELYUNTRUE! Tim is a hothead who’re strong on sales tactics(«Would you rather buy a Chinese TV or give to an American business?») but weak on business ethics. Even if there was an honest disagreement(which there was not) between a customer & a merchant, Tim’s behavior was outrageous and unprofessional. He made no attempt to consider even the possibility of any misunderstanding or to mitigate the dispute. He began his rant with: «I have been here since 1983 and you are the first person to complain.» I seriously doubt if that is true, either. Anyone considering using this merchant is cautioned to record all phone calls and get everything in writing. One star seems too much for this guy. Better to go elsewhere! PS: We expected a denial of the facts by this merchant since he knows that we did not record his phone call as evidence. My wife & I usually try to give our business to the smaller, independent merchants as a matter of principal. In this case, it backfired, since a chain merchant likely would stand behind their repair quote and would do so respectfully. We only write this post to give an honest assessment of what transpired so as to alert unsuspecting new customers of what happened to us. Our comments hopefully will make it less likely that he does this anytime soon, but he absolutely changed the price, no matter how strong his denial. We certainly doubt that we were the first customer to be ripped off. Just look at the prior complaint of 1÷24÷15.
