Buffalo Exchange

Ok, I would not normally review a clothing store, let alone a resale store, but this is by FAR the best Buffalo Exchange I’ve ever been to, and possibly the best resale shop in general. The selection is REALLY good, they have a ton of reasonably priced vintage, and the staff are so, so nice. this place.

I like the merchandise and I think there is great quality and variety, but I don’t think it’s affordable unless they have markdowns.

The place blows. The men’s clothing is raggged. I’ve brought nice vintage and modern name brand clothes in here a couple of times and they never want what I bring in. Not worth the time to buy or sell

Waste of time, place sucks. Everything I would of bought there was really worn or grungy looking for a few dollars less than a brand new matching item. Employees act like they better than you and don’t know what’s going on when it comes to clothing when buying. I recently brought in brand new Rebel 8 gear hats, shirts, etc… and was told it wasn’t in style, are you kidding me??? Rebel 8 has a very large worldwide following. Was told washed once dickies shorts wouldn’t sell, I about laughed out loud, you know how many people wear dickies in Phoenix, especially in that neighborhood? The best was being told how my original 501’s were too worn… First they still had stiffness and the perfect amount of fading and by no means did they look too worn. Don’t 501’s basically keep their value or can even possibly increase in value due to certain wear factors?
Other city locations are slightly better but I gotta say I can’t support a clueless business who delivers horrible customer service with attitude. I am not basing this on one experience but many over many years and locations.

It was really crowded with the way the merchandise was presented. Three employees and two customers nearly ran into me as I was attempting to look at the clothes. One of the doors is so close to a rack of clothes on the south side of the store, that a staff member almost hit me as she opened the door. Honestly, the place probably would be a decent spot to spot at if the layout were different or if they simply had less racks on the floor and more room for customers to shop.

Love coming here when I visit Phoenix! Great selection of unique clothing that you won’t find other places.

nothong like it used to be. . its now a big corporation which has changed the name and all stores alltogether…sad but it happens. i used to buy and resell to them since 92 but its not the same …

This place sure has gone down the drain! All of my jeans but 1 pair were rejected. Really? Some of them were never used! I took a pair of knee high Nine West boots and they rejected them. The people that work there are clueless! Don’t waste your time people! I will never go there again! Only picking a star because I have to in order to post this review!

Huge shoutout to this location and Emily specifically for helping me find the perfect outfit for a decade themed party! I was walking out the door discouraged that I hadn’t found what I was looking for when Emily offered to help me search through the dresses. Within two minutes she found me the perfect dress that I feel confident and cute in. Thanks Buffalo and Emily! I’ll definitely be back soon.

Cool selection and friendly customer service. Even if you’re not able to sell anything, it’s fun to spend time browsing.

I went to buffalo exchange last Friday because I wanted to get some jeans. I was really excited because you never know what you will find. But suddenly I got really disappointed: all the jeans were in a bad condition, kinda dirty and old and plus: super EXPENSIVE!!! I’m not trying to find $ 10 jeans but I’m never gonna pay $ 35 and even $ 50 for second hand jeans and a unknown brand! I was terrible shocked, I thought it was a joke or something, really you can find NEW good stuff in a regular store for that price. Then I stopped and I decided to take a look to the shirts and I couldn’t believe, everything was OVERPRICED! I don’t know what’s wrong with them, I really like to go to second hand stores but now I know: no more buffalo exchange or platos closet. Really believe me, there’s some more clean, affordable, better places than this. Don’t ever coming back.

Not impressed at all. Like many others, I have been coming to buffalo exchange for quite awhile. Checked out the new location and I didn’t feel like I was even at a Buffalo exchange anymore. yes there’s definitely some cute clothes, & then there’s clothing that makes you wonder, «how the hell did this get accepted in the store & my clothes I brought in to consign got rejected?!! «.
A pair of earrings for $ 16 (used)?! I absolutely love goodwill waaay better. The wannabe hipsters and punks with septum piercings that work there should at least take one item of clothing from people willing to consign. unless the clothes are unacceptably hideously frumpy or something but cmon! They are also Overpriced.
Everybody has their own sense of style so accepting clothing that’s «in style» only, makes no sense at all. Everyone’s own style and individuality makes this world so diverse.

I went there to sell some clothes, most of them good quality barely-​used pants, dresses, jackets size 14 – 16. The Buyer (who had eyebrows painted with a Sharpie marker), and had no clue what she was doing, and obviously didn’t know what’s quality or not — looked at everything and with a dismissive bored look on her face, said no thanks.
This is what I got from the experience:
1) If you’re over the age of 30 — don’t bother going there. It’s mostly for college age people who think they’re ‘cool’. Yes, they are ageist.
2) Buffalo Exchange store had the smell of an old musty closet that hasn’t been ventilated in decades.
3) If your clothes are more upscale, don’t waste your time going there. This store is overrated. Go to Goodwill, and you will get the same thing for WAY better prices.

Very disappointed with this location’s selection and prices. I realize that the fashion tastes of those doing the buying is subjective, but come on now. My subjective opinion overall is that most of the clothing I’ve seen over numerous recent visits wouldn’t be suitable for a yard sale. One example was a T-​shirt that appeared to be hand made (not well) entirely from bandanas sewn together. Looks like someone emptied out their rag bag at home. Then to charge those prices, forget it. I’m Unilocaling because I’m disappointed with the decline of Buffalo Exchange Phoenix, I have nothing personal against them or any of their staff.

Overall I am happy with Buffalo. I have been shopping & trading here on and off for probably 13 years. They recently moved, and this new location is so tiny! I liked their location much better, although this one is closer to my house. I think their prices are mostly fair, and I love all the vintage band shirts. I have gotten steals on purses there as well. The normally out of reach designers, Coach Michael Kors Ted Baker Kate Spade, are at a significant discount. Most items are used, but they are picky so you know its in good shape. I prefer to hang out while the people sort through stuff, so I know what they are pricing my items at (your paid off what they sell it at). I would suggest doing it, even though I trust their pricing. They also have a location in Tempe by ASU, huge store, different vibe, worth checking out as well.

This new location is quite a bit smaller than the previous store on Missouri. This means they have less room for merchandise and are a bit more selective when buying inventory. Regardless, I’ve made great $$ selling my vintage and gently used clothes and jewelry. For everyone complaining that they aren’t taking your stuff — is your merchandise worn? Faded? Wrinkled? Damaged? Wrong season? From a cheap label that can’t really be discounted much further (Target, Old Navy, Forever21)? Would you want to buy what you are trying to sell if it was on the racks? I know for some it’s embarrassing if they don’t take anything, so go walk around and enjoy yourself while they go through your stuff rather than watch them turn some of it down.
As for their pricing, it’s really on point most of the time. If Goodwill/​Savers prices their dresses at $ 10 and you can find something here for $ 12 – 25, depending on label and material, then you’re getting a good deal.
Some of their jewelry in the case is overpriced ($ 60 – 110) for certain pieces. This is new, as I’ve been a loyal customer for over a decade and was able to snatch up .925 goods for $ 20 – 30. If this means they’ll get more people bringing in unique items, then it’s a good move, but the pieces I saw just aren’t worth that price tag.
My only complaint: PLEASE bring back the vintage rack. This is all I look for when I come in and I really miss being able to go straight for it.

In Phoenix visiting family and craved for thrift store shopping! This location has the best items. It’s organized, clean and the fitting rooms are «roomy». Staff is friendly and all seem knowledgeable with fashion not to mention stylishly dressed suited to their personality. Mall shopping can get boring and rote — same style top or dresses in different colors.
I made out like a bandit with the coolest items. Most of their merchandise is new and the recycled items don’t have that «thrift store» smell! Great shoes collection

Meh. I’ve been going here for years. I love their new location, it’s a better place for them.
I GET that they’re overall a business, I really do. So most the time I don’t feel insulted if they don’t take something. There’s been few occasions where I will buy something from an expensive retail store, mean to take it back but don’t have the receipt, so I’ll sell it there. They’ll decline it because it’s not in style or too many/​too few buttons, pockets, wrong shade, etc. Theres really no point in arguing. –_​–
It is annoying when they say they’re professionals and know what they’re doing but pass on unique items you will see at their other locations, and then see PLAIN and stained t-​shirts that are goodwill worthy on the racks. Ugh!
Sometimes I still wonder if a lot of the high prices are necessary, don’t get me wrong, I’m stylish and know what labels sell and whatnot: p
If you want to take the time and play the game, whatever they didn’t take in, take back a few days later and someone else will (usually) take in your items. It goes to prove that they all have their own eyes and style.
Overall, I still enjoy this place enough to come back. I do enjoy rare and unique finds.

This place is hit or miss. I bit overpriced for being a second-​hand store. I like the fact that it exists. I love their new location. I like the earthy, support local music, support great causes-​feel to the store, but I think if I’m going to pay near retail prices I kinda want more deals from time to time.
The staff is helpful (occasionally someone is having a bad day, but who doesn’t, right?). They don’t always buy my stuff, but ah well, life goes on. I got my money’s worth out of it.
Trendy and unique clothes, but it’s pre-​owned… come on! Have a discount day or something!

I love Buffalo Exchange, I’ve been to the one in Houston and Las Vegas and they were much better stores.
I totally agree about the selling of the clothes. These people have no idea what they’re doing, it’s totally arbitrary and they seem to think they work for Vogue and not selling people’s used clothes. I didn’t care about the hipster part, that’s totally affected, I’ll see the real thing when I move back to NYC in a few weeks.
Went in and was just trying to get rid of a TON of nice clothes because I’m moving. I immediately hit a wall with a girl when I walked in. From then on it was no-​no-​no.
I brought out my expensive jeans, I mean $ 250 – 350 never-​been-​worn jeans and they told me they weren’t in style. Except that I saw a pair of the very jeans they said that about in the 7 for Mankind store not too long ago. THE IDENTICAL PAIR. The GUY who was doing this (who clearly doesn’t know women’s fashion) tried to tell me a pair of Hudson (expensive) jeans were worn by pointing out LINES in the jeans caused by the hanger (I bought them and wore them twice and they then just hung in the closet creasing them because they were in between tons of other jeans) and telling me they were worn. He had no idea what he was doing. AT ALL.
The funniest thing was that he bought this dress that I’ve had hanging in my closet since 2008 and thought it was great. It was totally out of style. Seriously, I kid you not.
I asked him what they would buy and he described a pair of shoes that would be heels, rounded toe, etc. I pulled out a pair exactly like what he was talking about that were almost brand new, literally the bottoms were almost untouched, that were suede and he said they were old. I told him suede is a fabric that changes with the direction of the fabric. I showed him and they looked brand new. I asked him if he actually knew what he was talking about and he called over the incredibly snotty girl that I hit a wall and OF COURSE she said that there were scuffs (that I rubbed out) and that people wanted perfect items (she said that, I swear) or they’d ask for a discount. In a used clothing store. Where you buy things other people have worn.
As I was waiting to get paid for the stuff they did buy I noticed a pair of grungy boots that were trashed and a pair of white Keds (do people still wear those?) that were scuffed and dirty that didn’t look nearly as good as the stylish heels they turned down. I also saw shirts and stuff in the same style as mine that they tossed aside (expensive brands, nothing I brought in was cheap). I also brought in $ 500 Miu Miu’s (a division of Prada) that were super sexy and he said it wasn’t the season. In Phoenix. Where it’s hot every day. Oh, okay.
One last thing, they give you a total at the end and don’t tell you how much they gave you for each items so you can’t say no. That’s super annoying, but then again, the whole process was.
Truly, this store is the worst. I definitely wouldn’t buy anything from here. Why? I already own it.
