So I decided to go vegan for a few days and just be a little more aware of what I’m putting into my body. Needless to say by day 3 I felt like death and a lot of the meals I made were either hit or miss :(…Day 4 approaches and I’m just about ready to sink my teeth into some chicken. As I searched Unilocal for vegan eats this hidden gem kept popping up. I just knew it was a mistake since this area is overran by fast food chains… but before I could give it more thought… my hunger took over, led me to my car and 7minutes later I was inside of Daisy’s ready to order the ENTIREMENU… However after talking to the owner(*assuming* she was very polite and informative BTW) I settled on the smoke protein wrap w/protein tidbits as an appetizer. This food was so darn delicious and it tasted like real MEAT.(Amen!!!) I can’t wait to go back and try other things on the menu. My only problem is that I don’t think there’s a chance I can replicate anything that good at home.

Glad I was nearby and found them. I ordered the smoked protein ad avocado wrap, and made it a combo with cauliflower. This was the highlight of my whole week and best vegan restaurant I have been to. I was warmly welcomed by other customers and staff. The cauliflower was perfectly done. I loved the hidden cilantro in my wrap, and all the food was fresh. Don’t pass them up. They are worth the trip!

Great thing about this place its located on the south suburbs. The staffs are open and friendly. The environment is clean. Great options for raw dishes, deserts, juices, smoothies and soul food entrées. However, it appears that the quality of the food has gone down. I love the location because it’s near my fathers home. The hours and time of operations is flaky. There have been on numerous occasions when I arrive there and see a close sign. There’s no consistency. I’m thankful to have a vegan restaurant in African Americans dominated community. I want to continue to support their business. I love that they had a small, hole in the wall environment. It gives the southern hospitality. I don’t know what happened! They need to improve or fix it: hours of operation and freshness of food has diminished.

First time trying Daisy’s and the food was the Bomb.Com lol I ordered the tofu rib tips, sweet potato fries, and a fresh fruit smoothie. Everything was delicious and well prepared. The place needs a little updating but overall the food was greats the owner is very nice and soft spoken. Overall, I will definitely be back

I love that everything is cooked to order and I haven’t had anything I don’t like! It is a very chill atmosphere and everything is made to order! You can come in with $ 15 and 2 people will be fed very well! The owners are very polite and explain things you may not understand(like they did for this newly vegan lady) and you will not be disappointed!

The food served at Daisy’s is prepared fresh, made with healthy fresh ingredients and tastes delicious. I had the Smoke Protein and Avocado Wrap would recommend ordering as a combo with sweet potato fries. He had the lentil tacos and loved them. I should note that we are not vegan but wanted to find healthy food alternatives. Daisy’s will be added to the list of frequented restaurants when in the area.

Oh I so wanted to like this place! It was recommended to me by an acquaintance. So I went yesterday(Sunday) by myself. I had planned on taking my children the next week. Well first, I waited forever for the dinner to be ready. I was told it would be ready about 2 – 2:30. Well it was 1:59. So will it be ready more like 2:30? Sure. Hungry and all I waited. You should have dinner hours posted on a site or something. By the way I could not find a website for them. So my soup came out about 50 minutes after my arrival, after 2:30. The two stars is because the food wasn’t bad. Split pea soup was flavorful. Everything was hot except for the Mac n cheese. I never got water to my table not even while I waited. And I saw that others that came after me did have glasses of water. I had to call the server over after I finished my meal to ask for my dessert, peach cobbler, that was to accompany my meal and the bill. Because at this point I’m in hurry after the long wait. So a bit later she comes back to say that the peach cobbler would be quite awhile because the dough for the top was just being made. Lol. Seriously. So my other option was a peanut butter or oatmeal cookie! I ask how many cookies. She replies«one». Okay hmm. «I’ll take the peanut butter». I’m sure there was no comparison between cobbler and a cookie. Not happy about it but stayed really calm. And because I don’t normally drink water while eating I didn’t notice that I hadn’t been offered any until I was about to leave. Anyway, I waited about 10 minutes more for the cookie. And when she brought it still no bill. I asked for it again. She said she would tell him(I’m not sure but he appeared to be the owner) I was ready. So I waited another 10 – 15 mins. And realized that they weren’t concerned with my urgency or just me as a paying customer. I went to the counter to give him my money. Didn’t know what the total would be until I got there, because no bill. Anyway, when I approached the counter he did say, sorry, how are you today?. I was said fine thank you. And left to never return. So much for taking my children next Sunday. Again, I really wanted to like this place but for me customer service is everything!

Alright… I want to give this place five stars really bad, but I simply can’t for a few reasons. The hours they have posted either aren’t right, or I just miss the memo when they close. I have showed up to unity café around noon on multiple occasions, and the deadbolt was still on the door, and the place looked completely empty. My friends and I have also tried calling in pick up orders at various times during their supposed business hours, and the phone either just continues to ring or goes to voicemail. However, if and when you can get ahold of this place, the food is phenomenal and very reasonably priced. The service is usually pretty slow because they only have about 2 – 3 employees working at a time. With a few minor adjustments, I would honestly attempt to eat here almost everyday. I would recommend the PLT, protein tidbits, and tofu filet sandwich.

Ok, I know I wrote my review about Unity Café yesterday. However, I’ve been dreaming about the peach cobbler and the next menu item for me to devour. I AMBACK, it is 2:30 pm, my soup and cornbread arrived piping hot with in 5 minutes of taking my seat. Today is Friday and it is fish and spaghetti Friday. WOOOOHOOOOOO It includes steamed broccoli, greens, with a choice of soup or salad and hot water corn bread. As Fred Astaire would sing, «I am in heaven…» Everything is fantastic, service with a smile.

Sometimes with small businesses you just want to give a higher rating, but I think there are enough locals that come here that a more honest rating is better. As some people have said there are only three tables and three seats at the counter. That’s fine, but I think there is a way to add another table. Also, there were only two people running the place which made everything much slower since it seems like they prepare everything from scratch(don’t change that!) Food itself was good. I got a dinner special… Asked for the lunch special, but I guess they stop that at a certain time. I was there early afternoon though. The protein was very good and greens were on point. I liked how I got cornbread with my soup too. I would say for food alone I am a fan. The notch down in rating comes from the wait… I was there for almost two hours waiting on my food and then food to bring back. Price is decent for the food, but the alkaline water they sell there for $ 3 a gallon is pretty steep. I will just get mine from Earth Healing Café on the way to visit my parents.

Very surprisingly delicious!!! Vegan cannot be this good. Can it? It is. A small little joint you will pass up if your not looking for it. Very plain nothing special about it, until you eat the food. I ordered the lentil tacos, greens, cornbread, coconut berry smoothie, and my partner ordered the gyro and fried cauliflower. the tacos had so much flavor, and the gyro was amazing. You could kindof tell it was tofu but it didn’t matter it was great! I highly recommend this small treasure, but don’t expect a fancy place or fast food as everything is made fresh and the mood is very laid back. Meaning it may take a sec before someone gets you a refill, LOL.

Incredible new vegan discovery! An all vegan restaurant in my old hood. [I went to high school in this area over thirty years ago.] Amazing creations, unique one-off never before seen recipes and menu. Been here only a year and a half, but I rave this space with five stars. Family-owned too. I ordered the ground lentil tacos with battered tofu sticks cooked to perfection(see photos). This stuff is gourmet vegan short-order cuisine in my vegan critics book. I tried a sample dish of their vegan BBQ tips which taste like the best part of any rib that I ever had, only vegan(see photo). I intend that they stay in business for a long time to come. I will frequent this place regularly. It’s like having the Chicago Diner on the south-side. @Leonard – less than 10% of their menu is deep fried, hence don’t order what you don’t want. The key word is ‘battered’, and the battered tofu sticks I ate were neither oily nor greasy at all. AND, it is relatively inexpensive. I walked out with what I had spending only $ 6. I don’t know where you eat in Texas, but in these parts I was expecting much higher prices for quality vegan dishes. In fact, I was going to suggest to them that they could afford to raise their prices; especially if they want to stay in business during these times.
It’s in a surprising location, south of chicago. It’s NOT an upscale chicago vegan restaurant, but I feel so lucky that there is a vegan restaurant in the depressed south suburbs, where I live! It’s a small place, a few tables, not fancy, but has the personality of the owner. You’ll have to see to understand. YOu can dine in but take out is also totally appropriate. The food. Don’t be afraid, if you love meat but are adventurous. The menu describes each dish as if it were its meaty counterpart, which was confusing to us vegans. But we asked and it is all truly vegan. if you dine in, you’ll get water at your table. there’s no alcohol, come to think of it I don’t think I saw any pop on the menu, but they do have smoothies, that we have not yet tried. They have a good selection of food. Lot’s of wraps, they favor a spinach tortilla. They like their sauces, jerk, bbq, etc. I’ve had a wrap, and my suggestion would be to tell them to go LIGHT on the sauce, and heavy on the veggies. The last thing I ordered was the falafel(sp?) pita… THATWASAWESOME. I’d eat that again. I’ve never actually HAD falafel before so I can’t say if it was accurate but I’d eat it again. And we order the Jerusalem salad every time, it’s a cold chopped salad of cucumber, onion, some kind of white sauce and other veggies. Refreshing. I’ve never tried their variety of tacos, but at some point I will, I know at least one is made with a lentil filling which is clever. A complaint? they have kale on the menu in several places, but didn’t have any when it came down to ordering it. I wonder what their turn over on real veggies and greens is. I saw a sign in the restaurant for a brunch which sounded delicious like biscuits n gravy and fake eggs kinda delicious, I’d like to go check that out sometime. And, it’s cheap. I mean, as a vegan, try to go out and spend $ 20-$ 25 on a lunch for 2, not eating just ‘salad’ ugh. My suggestion is to know what looks good to you, and if you want it done a certain way, like I prefer heavy on the veggies, add more greens! speak up. It’s a cheap versatile vegan option on the bbq meat tundra of the south side. CHANGEDTO2STARS EDIT: We stopped eating here as they never had the things listed on the menu that we wanted to eat, and although they opened at 11 am or so, they obviously don’t go in early to prepare beans etc and couldn’t actually GET food until well after noon. We would order for take out and show up at the time we were told, and WALKEDOUT after waiting an ADDITIONAL45 minutes! the straw that broke the camels back: we bought a gift certificate to unity, and UNITYWOULDN“T HONORIT. !!! So no way, never again. It’s been more than 6 months since we’ve been, and i wouldn’t be surprised if they’d closed down by now. 1. Offer ALL the food on your menu 2. serve it in a reasonable amount of time 3. honor your certificates and coupons!

Visiting from Texas and tried this place a few times. This place is a good considering your options in the nearby area. I wish so many of their dishes were not deep fried. It is definitely not cheap, but nothing off the beaten part of fast food joints /traditional dining ever is. The staff is super friendly and very accommodating. The establishment is also very clean and bright. Their smoothies are very good. I think a little less frying would go a long way to making the place even more healthy in terms of clean eating. They should also list their ingredients out for those of us that may have soy and gluten sensitivities.
