The First Tee of Phoenix is a non-profit organization created for the purpose of providing affordable access to golf and golf learning facilities for young people –particularly those who otherwise might not have an opportunity to play. Besides the mission of teaching young people how to play golf, The First Tee of Phoenix also has a strong character development component — the Life Skills Experience. Life Skills is one of the unique features differentiating our organization from other successful junior golf programs. Membership and classes are for youth ages 7 – 17 years old. The First Tee of Phoenix offers a $ 60 annual membership — making this one of the most affordable sport programs you can enroll your child in. The coaches — most are volunteer — are top notch. And the program organizes additional outing to places like the Science Center, picnics in the park, Water Park summer activities, golf clinics with PGA professionals, and more. Our son has participated for the last three years(from the age of 9). He has grown, not only in his love of the sport, but also in his peer leadership skills. I highly recommend this program! We attend the South Phoenix branch(with it’s own 9-hole course), but the program has partnerships with the City of Phoenix and its municipal courses throughout the Valley making it easy to find a location near you. The First Tee is a program established by the PGA Tour as a way to use golf to teach life skills and character lessons to a wide range of kids. Locally, its supported by The Thunderbirds, the charitable organization that sponsors the Waste Management Phoenix Open, local PGA pros, and various other corporations. As part of this, a few years back they built a permanent facility at South Mountain. Designed by noted golf course designer, Tom Fazio, the 9-hole course consists of all par 3’s and the holes range from 40 to 110 yards. They also offer programs at numerous public courses around the Valley and for just $ 60 a year, it’s a great way to introduce your children to golf. However, its not just about learning a sport, its a way to teach kids about values like honest, integrity, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy, and judgment. They also do fun things like water day, golf tournaments, and summer camps. And because this program is for everyone, and golf can be an expensive course, they have scholarships and equipment available for those who need it. If you’re looking for fun kids activities, First Tee of Phoenix is a great idea.
