The Sixth Annual Trailer Trash White Elephant post-​Christmas party was once again catapulted into the stratosphere thanks in part to thrift store shopping the day of. Fortunately, I’m house sitting in the area and was able to swing by here after breakfast Saturday morning. The huge sign in the window beckoned: 50% off Saturday Dec. 26! Score.
My first stop on this treasure hunt was a Jello mold for a dessert I planned to make. On my way back to housewares, I spied the most unbelievable homemade knit scarf. It was camo, people! Feeling like I fulfilled an extra layer of trashiness, it was on to find a bowl. What I found was a fine piece of cut glass (which I’ll use in the future, and not just for the sake of being goofy). Leaving that department, I spotted the single greatest item I could possible imagine: a trench length white rabbit jacket! Bacon was in heaven. Nearly throwing down my finds on a nearby table and in one swift movement snatching the fur off the rack while pulling off my own jacket, I slid myself into absolute glory and beauty. The jacket fit perfectly. A once-​over didn’t reveal any visible signs of damage and the condition was otherwise pristine. Even at the $ 49.95 marked on the tag, this was a steal. Once they applied the discount, I was one happy camper.
On a side note, one may be wondering why Bacon needs fur in Phx. Well, I does get cold here, and this weekend I was able to comfortably sit outside in my lovely jacket and not freeze to death. And because I’m worth it.
On another side note, I haven’t made Jello in years. It never sat up and was a semi-​congealed nightmare I had to deal with the day following the party.

I have been to this location probably a million times and for the most part have had nothing negative to say, but tonight I was shopping while nursing my baby and a manager, Georgia, who had been staring for a minute gave me a disgusted look as she said, «ma’am, can you cover that up please?!» Um, no, no I will not, and considering Goodwill HQ just addressed this bullshit a few months ago thanks to an ignorant employee tweet, I was surprised and upset by her request. I was feeding my child; there is absolutely nothing inappropriate about that. Also, what Georgia did is ILLEGAL and HQ should be ashamed to have let such an ignorant person manage their store.

For some reason I can always find what I’m looking for when I’m here. Costume for Halloween? Check. Quick donation drop off area? Standard. Carefully stocked? Well, as well as you can expect with used items. It’s my favorite Goodwill. Not amazing, but usually pretty good.
