I went here last night for the first time and was blown away by the prompt service, attentive and happy staff, quality food with fresh ingredients and delicious drinks. I wouldn’t write a review for a first time at a restaurant but Hula’s definitely deserved the credit. We were immediately seated and our waiter was over in a couple of minutes. Took our drink order immediately along with our appetizer order. Our food and drinks throughout the night were out in minutes. As a chef the quality of food was great, you can tell they take pride in sourcing fresh ingredients. I ordered the vegan bowl and that’s another reason this restaurant is so great. They offer vegetarian and vegan friendly options that go beyond a salad and grilled vegetables. We will be returning again very soon!

The fusion of traditional Hawaiian favorites were combined in way to make the meal savory. The nostalgic décor with a modern twist is enjoyable.

What a gem. Everything here is delicious. Get a scorpion bowl. Get the ceviche. The spicy ahi salad is bomb but very spicy. If you aren’t feelin’ the spice get the mango chicken salad. The service is great here. The outdoor area is one of the best patios in Phoenix.

Been here a bunch of times and each time I’m pleasantly surprised. Service has always been friendly and efficient. Food, tasty. Would recommend the jerk chicken plate with a side of Mac n cheese to share. It’s a hit with the BF which is saying a lot. The décor though is what I enjoy, modern… tiki…cozy. There’s fun out door seating, large bar area or nice dining area, so whatever your mood there’s a place to park it. I find myself always happy to return. It’s right off the light rail too, great for a night out or grabbing a drink. Decent happy hour, decent desserts. Overall, no real complaints… Not cheap enough for a weekly visit but we definitely make it here for casual nights out. As a real ‘island girl’ I’m not one for the foo foo tiki cocktails but I’m sure they’re fun!

Started with a GREAT Maithai! Had the coconut shrimp rolls… both amazing! Try the Mahi Mahi blackened. yea it is a bit spicy, but is nicely balanced with a cream drizzle over the top. Great ambiance… great drinks and food! Give it a go! Don’t forget the service… friendly accommodating and really made you feel at hone. Our first time here.

I enjoyed Hula’s Modern Tiki. The restaurant is smaller than one would think(especially from pictures) and parking can be a nightmare during peak dinning hours. Our waitress was very nice and attentive, i’ll definitely go back when the weathers a little warmer to enjoy the patio seating.

This is a beautiful restaurant, quite modern. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. The seafood is the specialty, and it is done well. Cant honestly say i was blown away by the flavors, but it does make for a nice evening all in all

I love this place. I was craving for some fish tacos and they were amazing! It came with very tasty salsa, I fell in love– my taste buds were so happy. I know this place is well known for their drinks, I wanted to try but didnt. Although a few people next to me had a volcano bowl that they said was pretty tasty. The layout was nice, they had their patio but it was wet from all the rain. Inside was nice– cute décor, very trendy design. Service was quick and friendly. No long waits and they come to check on you often. Overall, very nice place– definitely will be back with others to try the volcano bowl :)

I had dinner here with some friends a couple of weeks ago. As appetizers, we ordered a half and half order of sweet potato and house cut fries, crispy coconut shrimp rolls, spicy edamame and crispy fish bites. All of the appetizers were quite tasty. The spicy edamame is definitely spicy — leaves your lips burning a bit — but they were oh so good. I loved the pineapple horseradish sauce with the shrimp rolls — great pineapple flavor. For dinner, I had the blackened wasabi Hapu — lightly blackened over wasabi mashed potatoes with seasonal veggies. The flavor on the fish was good as were the potatoes but I’d like to have a little more kick for the potatoes — just a little more wasabi flavor. We also had dessert — coconut cream pie. You definitely want to save room for this. It was very creamy — very rich — very delicious. I believe Bailey was our server that night — absolutely wonderful — provided us with a lot of laughs and great service!

Normally, I love this place. Today shit service and the manager didn’t even care. My meal was completely consumed before my drink arrived. I saw my drinks sittin on the counter, don’t blame the bar staff. And don’t blame«everyone can’t all at once-we got slammed». That’s why you have a wait list! If the manager would have had a different attitude I would have given 5 stars.

I wasn’t overly thrilled by this place. When we were seated, I took a gander at the menu, which seemed a tad pricey. The ambiance was nice, though. I spotted on the menu where you could sign up for texts and save, so I did. The text I received said if I told my server, I’d receive $ 5 off my first purchase. I did this, and my waiter started telling me drink specials, so I ordered one. Once I went to settle the tab, the waiter explained that my drink special had voided the $ 5 off, which was never explained to me beforehand. I was disappointed with this. The food was decent, but not memorable enough for me to go back.

Visited Hula’s for the first time today. Had no real expectations, but was pleasantly surprised by the quality of service, the ambiance, the menu, and the portion sizes. The interior is very mid-century modern, which I love, and the service was outstanding. Everything was clean and dishes were removed from the table almost as quickly as I could clear them. Ordered the Potstickers(which were delicious!!) and the Mongolian Beef Bowl, which was yummy. Nothing to write home about, but good enough that I intend to go back and explore more of the menu. They’ve got a fun list of cocktails, too, if you’re into that sort of thing. I’d recommend this place for sure, and I do plan to visit again in the near future.

Totally unexpected we were seeking out a dog friendly place with an outside patio we ended up eating inside and kept the dogs on the patio because of the heat. They made sure dogs were in the shade and even gave them ice water. Kyle was our server and suggested the chicken bowl that I didn’t want to end. My wife had the grilled fish tacos and cleaned her plate! We will defiantly come back and the server Kyle is amazing! Two thumbs up!

This place has a nice ambience. I went on a Friday evening, so it was pretty packed. There’s an option to dine inside or outside. Since it’s around 100 degrees right now, they have an outdoor misting system. Diners can also sit inside at the bar. For appetizers, we ordered the Crispy Coconut Shrimp Rolls. It comes in 4 rolls for the price of $ 7, which is pricey for something that tastes just like eggrolls. My boyfriend had the Jerk Chicken Plate. Be prepared for a fairly generous portion of chicken. The jerk sauce was good, but became overwhelming. It was easier to finish the chicken by intermittently eating other items on the plate. My favorite was the fried sweet plantains. I ordered the Blackened Wasabi Fish Special. The fish did not taste fresh to me — it was just a satisfactory dish. Based on what I ordered, it was a little pricey for mediocre food.

Such a neat place with a neat concept and neat atmosphere. Love the specialty drinks they make very tropical. Fun place to come for happy hour and they have great 2-for-1 specials. If you’re ever in Midtown Phoenix I recommend a visit here especially during happy hour.

Trendy restaurant with Polynesian themed drinks and food. I tried a few bites of various dishes and had the hapu with lemongrass sauce. The hapu itself was tender, flaky, and perfectly cooked. Unfortunately the breading on it was charred in some areas, causing it to taste bitter. The breading was also very hard texture-wise, making it difficult to eat without giving your jaw a workout. The actual lemongrass sauce was broken when it arrived, creating an unappetizing mixture of runny liquid and coagulated yellow mass. The taste of the sauce, while initially pleasing on the first bite, became harder to eat after successive bites due to the sour flavor of it. The sides for the dish included some slightly undercooked rice and very generic, bland coleslaw. I also tried some mahi-mahi, which also came with the same rock hard breading, and a similarly sour sauce. The actual fish was delicious though and we peeled apart the breading and pushed aside the sauce to savor the pure taste of the fish. I also tried some ceviche, which had way too much lime juice in it, overpowering the whole dish. The one true highlight of the meal was trying some of the jerk chicken. It was tender, with bold, spicy flavors. Service was good for a busy Saturday night. Drinks were refilled as needed. Overall, the fish dishes need more simplicity in their preparation for the true taste of the fresh, good quality fish gets muddled when it is breaded and doused in a powerfully flavored sauce. While the atmosphere is great, if you dine here just be careful of what to get since the dishes tend to be hit and miss.

YUM! I’ve been recommended to go here several time and finally got a chance to. The décor is fun and modern. We went on a Friday night around 6pm and there was no wait. The table we were seated at was a little too close to our neighboring table. We could hear their entire conversation and they could hear ours. We has fun trying to figure out if they were on tinder date 1, 2 or 3. We had trouble picking from the menu because everything sounded so good. I love the hawaiian and jamaican spices so every single thing on the menu was right up my alley. We ordered the poke as an appetizer and it was the best outside of Hawaii that I’ve had. I finally decided on the Jawaiian Jerk pork plate and my boyfriend got the fish tacos. We were both satisfied with the meal. He just wished there was more fish and less«stuff» in the tacos. Side note: The jerk pork tasted EVENBETTER the next day as a leftover :) The reason why I am giving Hulas a 4 star rather than 5 star rating is that I think its a bit overpriced. My meal was $ 14 it should have been $ 10-$ 12. Don’t go here if you are looking for a cheap, good meal. Was an expensive dinner for 2 after drinks. Will return as a treat every now and again.
