The Phoenix Day School for the Deaf is a really special school. They teach kids all the way from pre-​school to high school, and they take in children that are not only deaf, but mentally challenged too.
My mom is a substitute pre-​school teacher here, and I’ve come to the class a couple of times when she was working to see the kids. They’re adorable. They do so many fun activities with them too. We went to the zoo once and I know they’ve gone to many other places on field trips too.
When she subs in the older classrooms, they go to plays downtown, waterparks, out for lunch and so on. It’s really great. The teachers are fantastic– and of course– they all know sign language so they can communicate with all their students.
They definitely could use some more funding though (what school couldn’t?) but if you or anyone you know is looking for a school for their deaf child, I highly recommend this one.
