Salon Izzy

I chose Salon Izzy strictly off of the reviews on Unilocal because I just moved here and I don’t know anyone. I scheduled with the owner, Carla, and she is awesome! I have very long hair with color (hide the gray!) and highlights and I’m very particular. Carla definitely knows what she’s doing with color and she knows how to cut my fuzzy, curly, long hair. She made it look beautiful and we had a wonderful conversation. The salon is cute! I made my next appointment and see no reason to keep looking.

RUTH is fantastic. She completely transformed my hair. I love it. It looks fun, professional, and beautiful along with being so shiny and healthy. The color was perfectly mixed and the extra stuff she mixed in helps to keep the color from fading. She also worked magic on my eyebrows. So then I brought my aunt in and Ruth made her look like a completely new woman. Perfect color, cut, and style. Ruth is so amazing, a master at her trait, and very sweet and professional. It’s a cute and quaint little salon with a lot of talent tucked inside. They do not push any products which is a nice bonus. I would highly recommend Ruth for anything you need and garentee you will not leave upset.

Ruth is such a polite stylist.
I went in using a Groupon and she helped wash and style my hair which was great… because I can’t use my right arm at the moment. She was considerate and a total professional. I’m happy with how the curls turned out. Thank you Ruth.

I needed a GREAT hair cut last minute for an event I was working. Carla, the owner, fit me in the same day. She has great skills, very experienced and knowledgeable, and a great personality. My hair is super thick and isn’t the easiest to cut and style.
Carla gave me a great cut and style. If I was closer in this area more often I would definitely come back. I highly recommend Carla and Salon Izzy. :)

Great little gem in the north east Phoenix area! I was referred to Carla (Salon Izzy’s owner) by two of my close girlfriend’s who have been coming here for years. Carla always does an excellent job on my hair and is sure to keep you entertained by cracking up over her great stories!
It’s unfortunate that there is one bad review on here, because I’ve never had a bad experience, but I would definitely not let that stray you from coming here. Sure it’s not as fancy as some other high end Scottsdale salons that cost you $ 200 – 300 for a color (and maybe a cut included in that price depending where you are), but it’s an excellent find and very reasonably priced. I see Carla every 4 weeks and I’m a very happy client! 5 stars for Salon Izzy! :)

SanDee is hands down the best stylist I’ve ever had!!! She’s been doing my hair for years! Wouldn’t go anywhere else! She always makes my color look so beautiful. She takes the time to style it and make sure I love it before I leave. She’s patient, kind, funny and in touch with trends and fashion.

In response to Jennifer O.‘s tip, I am sorry you felt the way you did. I would like to inform you that there is no need for a receptionist as we are all renters and take care of our own books and transactions and also why we answer our phones to take appointments as our cell phones are our business phones. I was unaware that you were unhappy because you left saying you loved your hair and it was not until another colleague told me you were upset that I found out because you chose to communicate with someone else rather than me. Honesty and criticism is appreciated. As far as your comments about my character and the look of the salon with excessive amounts of embellishment in you story, that kind of negativity and falsity is neither necessary or called for. Please next time, wherever you go, communicate with your stylist, tell them what you like and don’t like, ask questions if you dont understand the way things work at the salon, and I hope for your next stylists sake you won’t write a false/​bad review on a public forum out of anger because you simply cannot be pleased. I do wish you all the best and apologize for what you feel you experienced at the salon.

I was not impressed by Salon Izzy. I went in a couple weeks ago for cut, color, brow wax from Ruth. This salon is not what I call ‘nice.’ It is not modern and it has no style. It looks like a Regis or something, which makes sense since all of the stylists I talked to there used to work for Regis or beauty supply store salons… great. The people in this salon did not seem to get along. There were more than one disagreements and people stepping on each others’ ‘turf’ while I was there. Ruth seemed ‘off’ after receiving a (very helpful and probably needed) coloring tip from another stylist… I later found out that she was very upset by this. Further, there isn’t a receptionist in this salon (as far as I can tell) and Ruth answered several phone calls and text messages while I was in the chair. Unprofessional. There was a time when Ruth had the color brush and hair in one hand and was texting with the other. Wow. Ruth had a cancellation and then called another client who then also cancelled and she was clearly stressing… I probably should have left too.
Anyway, Ruth’s mentor (Donald… I think) was a nice guy and helped out (more than he probably should have had to), but I didn’t like that he and Ruth gossiped about other clients and stylists while I was there. If they are talking about these people, what will they say about me after I leave? So unprofessional. The hair cut I received and the color is decent, but I was concerned because A) Ruth cut my hair while it was curly, so if I were to straighten it, I doubt the cut would be straight… not a real issue since I wear it curly, but something to think about and B) Ruth didn’t style my hair at all or offer to, so it was pretty hard to see what the cut was going to look like. I had to go into the bathroom to re-​wet my hair to see what it might look like… that really isn’t acceptable. My Mom also had her hair cut and colored and Ruth accidentally turned her hair purple. My mom is fairly cool, so she went with it, but that is also not acceptable. To her credit, Ruth offered to redo it if she was unhappy with it in the next few days.
So lastly, Ruth did my eyebrows. I wouldn’t normally have my eyebrows waxed at a hair place, but I needed them done and she offered to do them for free for my birthday (which was the next day). All seemed fine until I got up and looked in the mirror. She had waxed off half of one of my eyebrows! Before I could say anything, Ruth said ‘I didn’t wax off your eyebrow, your hair is just light!’ Ummm I have been having eyebrow waxes for 13 years and my hair has never been so light… it was so light, it was nonexistent! I was pretty furious and got out of there as fast as I could. As we were leaving, Ruth sat in her chair and texted. She did not apologize. I would not recommend her to anyone and I certainly will never go back.
I guess you really do get what you pay for.

I really don’t know why anyone would give a review of one star for this place? (below) Its awesome. Great salon feel. Everyone is super sweet. Carla the owner is awesome. She sets out snacks for the clients daily, cookies, licorice, lollypops for the kids, etc. She buys her employees lunch and she is so sweet to the everyone. She is a hard worker and truly cares about the clients and her salon. I can’t imagine her not responding to anyones call or «written letter». That just doesn’t sound like her. Again, this may not be some total shabby sheik new salon, but its a great lil place to go get your hair «did» for sure! Everyone in there is great!

I went to Rhicco today and he was awesome. I had a cut and highlights. He listened to exactly what I wanted and offered suggestions. He explained each type of cut he was doing and why. My color turned out perfect and natural looking just as I had wanted. I highly recommend him.
The Salon was nice and clean and the rest of the staff was great. I saw a lot of happy people leaving the salon.

A very good friend of mine referred me to Carla one of the owners that she has been going to since high school. I recently moved to the north Phoenix area and needed to find a new salon in my new area. Carla was able to schedule me an appointment the day I contacted her. She did a terrific job while being quick and efficient. I left feeling like I had a new head of hair. The price was also very reasonable since I just get a wash, cut, and style. No color. I think I found my new place and stylist! Will be more than happy to go back in a couple months. :)

Carla is awesome with hair and her prices are competitive… she charged me 80 for partial weave and cut… she has been cutting hair forever…

Love the salon, and especially love stylist Deana Potter! She is a genius with color, and does a mean cut. She listens really, really carefully — love that. When you’re in her chair, you have her full attention. I have never before had so many compliments on my hair. Very reasonable prices. Go see Deana!

Worst experience ever!!! I made an appointment with Sandee because the site said she has 20 years experience and a specialist in color. I went in with hair color similar to reese witherspoon and left looking like kelly bundy! First time I’ve ever cries in a salon chair. She suggested I brush my hair a certain way to «cover it up.» Her words, not mine. She literally sent me home with foils still in my hair (her third attempt to fix the odd color) and with wet hair I drove 40 minutes crying the whole way. Save your money and go elsewhere!

Salon Izzy is such a warm and wonderful salon! Darci is the absolute best stylist that I have ever had do my hair. I have followed her to Salon Izzy, which is so much nicer than the uptight and overpriced salon that she left.
Darci is a master at her craft and she is so affordable! She listens to what I want, shows me what’s possible and then makes it happen. I have the curliest hair of anyone that I know, and Darci makes it look great, whether it’s straight and sleek or curly and fun! She has a warm and loving personality and I would follow Darci anywhere! She is truly a magician!
I am Mark’s wife, but she does just as great of a job on his hair as she does on mine!

Salon Izzy might not be a swanky or posh NYC or Beverly Hills salon but it is typical and fast paced filled with a dozen of different stylists that are always, always busy.
After having an insane thought of going to someone else and resulting in hair suicide, I became a monostylist. I followed my stylist, Melody, there from a salon up the street and to be honest I’m not there for the salon, I’m there for her.
The lady is crazy busy but she is so worth it. The first time I saw her, 3ish years ago, I was in desperate need of a new style. Problem was my hair was pixie cut and there wasn’t much I could do but she grinned and did her best.
Melody is bubbly and outgoing, but patient and particular when it comes to hair. She always tells me that she has this «vision» of what she wants my hair to look like. I strayed from it, regretted it and when we adjusted the overall look that I wanted to fit her vision… well, I haven’t been happier with my hair in a very, very long time. When she’s done cutting she goes over nearly every inch of your head, tilting it one way then another while tugging on your locks to make sure everything is symmetrical.
Melody also colors hair and I’ve been getting my hair colored for probably 2 and a half years. I insisted that she did it in such a way that it looked 100% completely natural — none of that skunk coloring, or zebra stripes, or duo-​tone. I was very wary and it’s been fabulous — I don’t get compliments on my color and I’m OK with that! I’ve got the highlights I want with the glow and shine without it being noticeable!
Oh, if you tell her you want a look and she pauses for a moment with a dubious look on her face, that’s basically your cue to say, «Not on my head?» and she’ll either tell you no, or recommend a way to make it work for your head. She has never put a style on someone that wouldn’t compliment their body and face shape.
If you’re in the area she’s worth the visit and if you’re not in the area… well, she’s still worth the visit.

Melody is the best. I know you’ll love her – she listens well, has great ideas and is a blast to be with! She definitely understands the plight of curls… Maybe I should move back to Phoenix, my hair would thank me!
