My husband was a patient of Dr. Larry Sobel’s for over 10 years. A year and a half ago, my husband was diagnosed with terminal kidney cancer which had metastasized to his lungs, Stage 4. He was diagnosed as an emergency room patient at, Mayo Hospital, because he was having trouble breathing. Two weeks previously, my husband had called Dr. Sobel’s office complaining about shortness of breath and was told that this was going around and he could come in if he wanted, but it was probably his COPD acting up or a chest cold. That is not my issue, because a two week earlier diagnosis would not have mattered. All records were sent to the doctor’s office, with the new diagnosis, the kidney removal surgery and everything that was going on. After 10 years as a patient, there was never a call from Sobel’s office just to check in or say hello or to see how he was doing. My husband had never had any issues with his care during all those years, but the doctor’s lack of communication is rude, unprofessional and just wrong. That is my complaint.

One star more than the person below me. Here is why. I come on time for an appointment, I come early in fact and you are 3 hours late. Im sorry I find it hard to respect you if you cannot respect my time. I work way too many hours to be wasting it in a front office after I have made an appointment a week or a month or a day ahead even. Thats not done. The front office is not the friendliest behind their glass wall and I have personally dealt with better staff. The physician, Dr Sobel, himeself is a very nice person.(Maybe I met the better Sobel, I think there are 3 !) He was very amicable, and while he does run in and out of the office, and after the wait I wasnt expecting anything great.(Talk about low expectations) I cannot say he does an exception job diagnosing /treating because I never had anything that compllicated where the phsycians were at their wits end. So 2 stars for Dr Sobel, I would have given him more, but like I said, when you cannot respect my time I find it very hard to respect you. Maybe its his staff, maybe its a plethora of reasons but after 2 visits I had enough.

What a complete ass of a person. He is the rudest person you will meet this week, probably this month, and that’s so long as you don’t meet anyone for the rest of the year. He will walk out of the room while you are in mid sentence, fail to answer your questions, and ignore you. Having said all that he is, unfortunately, very good at what he does. If you need a good doctor, and you always need a dr who is good, then Dr Solbel always fits the bill. He recognizes symptom and correctly diagnoses every time and on even very little information. His arrobance is annoying, but rather like Dr. House on TV. I stopped going to him about 10 years ago because I ccouldn’t stand him any longer, and I cannot possibly recommend using him since there are plenty of other good docs, but if you have to use Larry Sobel, you can do so trusting you will receive good advice, if he actually takes thetime to give you some advice. Also, plan on spending an entire day. You’d think gthat since3 he spends so little time with each patient and is so abrupt, you would expect that he can run an on-time schedule, but such is just not the case. I have, in the past, spent 4 hours in his waiting room after arriving on time for an appointment. If you can possibly go elsewehre, I suggest you do so. If you find yourself stuck with this doc, you will receive good medical treatment. I am convinced that is the ONLTY reason he is still in business.
