This is a great little market. I always love checking out local markets(especially Middle Eastern ones). When I first moved into the neighborhood and saw this place, I had to check it out. Over time I became a frequent customer, and I can honestly say that Sultan Market is a great alternative to Baiz if you just need a few things or you’re a little further East. They get produce in every week, and fresh Halal meats in twice per week(Tues & Fri). Recently, they opened up a grill in the back, and boy was I excited to try it! As of this review I’ve tried the chicken shawerma, beef shawerma, hummus, lentil soup and their fries. The chicken shawerma is top-notch, and it packs just enough of a different flavor to make it unique to Sultan. That’s a very good thing in my opinion, and it means that you have to make a trip to try it! The beef shawerma is also good, but the chicken is my preference. Sultan’s hummus is good and served with olive oil and paprika(very traditional). As for the lentil soup and fries… both excellent! The lentil soup is really light and has great flavor. Don’t go in thinking that you’ll have heavy/thick lentil soup. It’s not very salty at all, and it’s quite refreshing. And lastly. I really don’t know what it is about Middle Eastern dives and great french fries, but Sultan’s do not falter in that department! To me, they’re perfectly crispy and thick! Go check out this little market the next time you’re in the area, and be sure to check out the grill in back! The owner is a friendly guy, and he deserves the business. I’ll be back for sure!
