I just had a great experience at Thunderbird Automotive! I emailed on Saturday because I had my check engine light come on. I thought it was my alternator. Got an email back within a couple hours from Johnathan giving me a quote to check to see what the issue was. I called today and asked if I could stop by. He said to swing by and he could check a few things out. I was there for maybe 15 – 20 minutes tops. They quickly found that it wasn’t the alternator, and determined it was the thermostat from the computer. They also noticed a sound in the back and said it was likely the brakes and that I should have it checked soon. All of the guys were very pleasant and willing to answer the questions I had. Someone who has the time to take care of me has more than earned my business. I will be back in on Saturday morning to get the thermostat fixed. If you are in this part of town, I would suggest reaching out to them and let them take care of you the right way.

You cannot find a more honest car repair place. On Mark Salem’s list of best shops in Phoenix, they are just the best you can get. I have been taking all my cars to them for 15 years, They installed disk breaks on my 62 vette last year and did a great job. I recommended them to by boss after he moved to Phoenix a problem with his BMW. They told him they were not experts on the problem and recommended a different repair shop. Now who would do that? Not the cheapest but you they will only recommend and fix what needs to be done,

Had a battery problem and called several shops for quotes. Mike and his team came away with the best price so I took him up on the quote. Once I arrived I was greeted with a warm hello and Mike asked what I could do for me and I referred to my earlier call and he responded with quickly with my battery issue. I was done in less than half an hour and was on my way. With the knowledgeable staff I will definitely be going back. Great service and a very reasonable price. Thanks again Mike.

Been getting my propane here for 2 decades — even when they were a Chevron station way back! They always are friendly when I go in for tire repairs (thanks to contractors who let those nails drop out of their truck :(
Anyway, Glenn is always friendly and even patched up my 4runner tire as they were closing for the day — he kept the shop open and helped me out! I can’t tell you how much that really meant to me.
5 stars (hard to earn from me) deservedly to this clean, friendly, and honest operation.
When my vehicle is out of warranty, this place will be my go-​to for service.

John & his staff were, courteous, professional and strait up about what they did and how much the repairs would cost… I’m still not sure if he under charged me or not!

I had a mechanic for years and he retired so it was hard to trust anyone else with the care of my truck. I had tried several places to find out they had over charged me and didn’t do such a great job. I had come to the point where I was putting things off longer than I should have b/​c of the bad experiences. I have been using Thunderbird Auto off and on for a few years but now that my truck is getting older there has been a need for more work to be done. I can’t say enough good things about TA and my experience with them so far. They are very detailed, professional and go the extra mile for their customers. I feel they are honest and really care that your vehicle is safe to drive on the road and are very reasonable with their prices. John and Mike have been great to work with. They explain things to me when I have questions and have been patient with me when I have not always been the nicest. They have gone as far was provided me a ride to and from when I needed to drop off my truck. It is such a relief to be able to know that things are going to be done right the first time and that they guarantee their work to the fullest. I call and most of the time I get in on the same day with no problems. It has been so nice to finally find a reliable and honest place of business. I highly recommend TA for your automobile needs. They have definitely put my mind at ease with the care of my truck. I will be recommending them to all my friends and family. Thank you TA!

Seriously the best mechanic you will ever go to. I have been going to Mike, John, and all the guys at thunderbird for 7 years now, and my opinion of them only ever improves. In those years I will admit to have occasionally price comparing, but Thunderbird always wins on service prices. And if for some reason the part cost more from thunderbird, I can research the parts myself and the parts from other places will be the lowest quality with bad ratings, thunderbirds will be good quality with high ratings. I have NEVER had to go back for repeat repairs. When it is fixed, it’s fixed. End of story. After you have been in a time or two, they know you on sight, and they feel like «your mechanic». You can call with questions without worry. I have brought in used cars for advice on purchase. Mike, the owner, negotiated the price down for me based on what he saw. Let me tell you, you could never find a better mechanic. I love these guys!

I have been using this service when they still sold gasoline probably 20 years ago. They service all of my cars and I have never been disappointed. Both my cars have over 170,000 miles on them and they have serviced them since I bought them. One of my Automobiles is a classic Mark VII. Mike and John treat it like one of their own classics. Since I have special needs, they pick up and deliver my cars when servicing them. I couldn’t ask for a better more trustworthy shop. If you want cheap work done, have your uncle do the work for you in his back yard. If you want it done right at a reasonable price, Use T-​Bird Auto Specialists.

Thunderbird Automotive has always been helpful, honest and so friendly. The work is great and they have shown time and time again that they are #1 and to be trusted with all of my car care needs.
So accommodating to my schedule, taking care of the little things like filling my tires when they are low and they even showed me how to change my own tire.
I have been with them since I moved here six years ago.

My 2001 Nissan Frontier had failed emissions, a friend of ours recommended Thunderbird automotive on 35^th Ave, I took it in, John assured me he would get it in shape so I can get my tags! He fixed the issue, and I was able to get it passed! Thx to Phillip and John! Brian R

Good oil change good price, but took over 24 hours. I did the night drop on Sunday evening, which was convenient but the truck wasnt ready after work on Monday still. John was friendly and helpful and didnt charge me for taking off my door panel to look at a problem with my door lock. I asked him to only remove the door panel if he’d have the parts to fix it, but then said they’d have to manufacture the part themselves. Its good to know they can do that sort of thing, but it was more expensive than just buying the (hard to find) parts. Really, I give them 3.5 stars for now since I had to ask him to remove the charge. I will try them again next time I need service and will update the review accordingly.

I found this place based off off of positive reviews (hoping they were legit). My car has recently begun to seem mas if is loosing power while driving, it only happend about 2x last week. I took it here with hopes of getting it diagnosed since no service light was showing up. I agrreed to their diagnostic fee and left my car there for the day, they were not able to repeat the problem after having two seperate employees test drive it and the computer could not pick up any errors or codes so at te end of the day they apologized for not being able to find an issue with the car and handed me my keys back with no charge. Although they were not able to find the exact problem, I appreciate their honesty and the fact that they didn’t offer to replace something as an unknown remedy. Thanks Phillip!

My check engine light came on coming down the hill into Black Canyon City– by the time I hit 8:00am traffic at Bell my temperature gauge went all the way to hot. I pulled off at thunderbird and turned into the closest garage. The guys here could not have been more helpful. They diagnosed my problem (I had gone too long between oil changes and almost burned out my engine) — fixed it promptly and honestly and even hooked me up with wifi so I could get some work done while waiting. The father and son team here were polite, helpful and even though I live in Scottsdale– I will absolutely come back to them for any work I need.

I found the General Manager, Jeff, to be very professional. He told me exactly what was wrong with my car in a quick and timely manner. Although we were not able to repair the car today, (b/​c we couldn’t get the parts due to NAPA closing @ 5pm), I will definitely return next week to have the repairs completed. All of the technicians were polite and friendly.
I would recommend this establishment if you live near 35^th ave and T-​bird.
