So, in 2006 right before Christmas, Yoya’s Mexican Food closed. I was sad — they had the best carne asada burro I’ve ever had. In late 2007 Yoya’s opened again — but it is a different owner and different recipes. Yoya’s is now owned by the Riva family out of Parker, Arizona. I had to try their carne asada, of course. I got the carne asada burro. It was flavorful, grilled meat cut into pieces, with pico de gallo and guacamole. This was the best carne asada I’ve had since last year. Not quite as good as the original Yoya’s, but pretty darned good. Look for their very reasonable lunch specials, which include a small drink. Oh, their horchata(a Mexican rice drink) is home-made — it was very good, but at $ 3.50 for a glass, a bit pricey. There is so much more to try, so expect more information. Yoya’s Mexican Food is at 16th Street and Southern behind the AZ Federal Credit Union on the southwest side facing Southern.
