Really, this place is just kind of a mess all around, from the building’s mish-mash interior to the plating of half-breaded fish and soggy fries. They have various types of fish to choose from; cod, talapia, cat fish to name some that I can remember. The breading is a bread-crumb style, which naturally leads to sogginess on the fish and eventual peeling from its surface. This does not make for good fish-n-chips in my opinion, because I like a breaded cod that can withstand my crafty assault of quickfire malt vinegar rampaged onto my plate. Z’s selections cannot hold up. I was equally uninspired by their ‘chips’, which were typical slab-cut fries, mushy and unseasoned. The people who run the place are very nice, and give you updates on the status of your order, though I was the only person in there waiting for my to-go plate. I don’t know what the quality of fast-food type fish-n-chips typically is since I only have Z’s, Pete’s, and LJS to compare, but if you have that slow ache for some fish-n-chips, hold out until you get to a decent English or Irish pub.
