This is a good bowling alley, when you’re in a red-neck mood. It doesn’t seem to have been updated since 1980, but if you’re in the mood for bowling and don’t feel like driving too far, the staff is friendly and the lanes are open. I have to honestly say it pains me to see a place like this not keeping up with times. Phoenixville over the past few years has built itself up on entertainment. Our downtown area is filled with bars, restaurants, art galleries, etc… so if they put a little money into the place and brought it up to «Lucky Stike» standards, I think this place would be a gold mine. We haven’t had a bad experience here… but don’t go in with high hopes.

Martha’s review of the Phoenix Lanes is spot on. This isn’t the most attractive location in Phoeniville but once inside you’re gonna have fun no matter what. They are very helpful at the front and have plenty of lanes. They have a nice bar that helps keep the atmosphere light and fun. The best part is after 11pm they have«Rock-n-bowlin» where they turn off the lights and the lanes glow neon along with your shoes. Nothing like night time bowling to keep ya guessing. All in all its a great time for everyone.

I was put in charge of planning a team event for work. Ahhh!!! Panic attack started to set in. I cringe at having to plan an event that everyone will enjoy. You see, quite frankly, party planning is not my bag. «Okay», I said after downing a shot of Jack Daniels. «I can do this.» What is something unique, something fun, something that will pull coworkers together and easily have them experience the skills of relying on each other? Ah yes, BOWLING! Well you see I am no Earl Anthony, but I have been known to score over 100 a few times in my life. Now where should I host this event? The upscale and overpriced Lucky Strike in Philadelphia? Uh no. Think think think… if I wanted to bowl, where would I want to do it? Personally, I would want to do it in a good old fashioned bowling alley, usually the ones that still have the 60s décor; dimly lit inside; a small bar; smoke all around; bowling shoes that probably haven’t been replaced in years… you know what I am talking about. A coworker suggested Phoenix Lanes in Phoenixville. It was relatively close to work and didn’t have a snobby name accompanying it. I called the place and talked to Frank who was very cordial on the phone. I told him my needs and he much obliged. He was able to reserve 5 lanes for our event for 3 hours with food and soda provided and including shoe rentals for all my coworkers for a relatively reasonable price AND he did all this on a night where the bowling alley was hosting league night. Good job Frank! Having never seen the place before and doing all the preparation by phone, fax and email, I immediately recognized my destination after seeing the B-O-W-L-I-N-G sign up ahead. It seemed a little run down from the outside and then again I started to panic. Were my co-workers going to like this place? Was I going to be the butt of email jokes the next morning? Gathering up enough courage, I got out of my car and headed inside. Frank met me at the door and immediately put me at ease. He went over the events for our little get together, telling me that the food was almost finished being prepared and that our lanes were almost ready. I looked around and thought that this place wasn’t as bad as I thought. Everyone who worked there was very helpful and friendly and occasionally came up to me during the evening to make sure everything was okay. Frank even went so far to set up each of the teams on the score monitors(or whatever you call them). Finally, my coworkers started to arrive… one by one… heading for food and then to the bar… and then the bowling began…3 hours of fun! The place was packed with bowlers. Everyone had a great time. I was sorry to have to leave when I did. But the next morning made me feel good when I was approached by some of the bowling revelers from the night before, telling me that they wanted to continue this event every quarter and go to Phoenix Lanes every time. Wow, maybe I should change my career to social director. Thanks to everyone at Phoenix Lanes for making this such a great event!
