A really neat place to visit in Pickens County. I had the privilege of performing here at one of their annual storytelling festival. And thousands of folks turned out! Also me and my family attended one of their third sat fun days. Fun is the word! Blacksmiths, really cool folk music, storytelling and all kinds of crafts, My children bought wooden birds and homemade honey and books. The old mill still works and of course we watched it grind up some grits and of course we bought some grits! Fresh ground! Couldn’t buy enough boiled peanuts for the family! The mill area isn’t too spread out and it is easy to walk around. the rest rooms are family friendly and very clean. You wouldn’t think so but they are. There is a very short nature trail you can walk on also. Very historic and the folks that work there are very friendly. If you want more info go to this website

Historic Hagood Mill is a nice place to visit. The mill actually still runs every third Saturday of the month and is one of the only working mills left in South Carolina. The buildings have some informative notes on them and there is a short nature trail(about ¾ of a mile) with a cool covered bridge halfway on the journey. At the end of the trail there is an old moonshine still with some history on moonshine and some antique moonshine bottles. There is also an old cotton gin but I wasnt able to go inside. Inside the mill you can see all the inner workings and there is a close-up view of the giant wheel. Some days of the week you can still buy freshly ground meal and flour. They even have coloring books for the little ones. There is a historical marker on site that explains the findings of some petroglyphs that are supposed to be on –site but I couldn’t find them and Noone else knew where to either. In all this is a nice place to visit once and has some cool history, but unless I’m in the weekly group that plays folk music here in the main cabin, I’ll probably not come back.
