I love my pickens flea market. You never know what you will find. Normal flea things but they have the best old things from estates. You have to dig sometimes and at other times it is right in front of you. It’s a haven for hunting rifles and camo gear. Old pots and skillets, hand made crafts, food, fresh fruits and veggie. During the summer and early fall they have locally grown peas corn watermelons apples cucumbers and much more. Well worth the visit.

Ok treasure hunters, I have a find for you — and the springtime weather is perfect for it. On the hunt for a good flea market? If you’re in Atlanta, The Pickens Flea Market and Bargain Exchange is about 2.5 hours away — 2 hours if you’re in Columbia. It’s open every Wednesday from 4am — 2pm. Trust me, you want to get there early — and if you are a REAL treasure hunter — go before the sun’s come up and bring a flashlight, because when everybody else comes in… it’s packed. This flea market boasts to have the largest continuous shed — a quarter of a mile — that wraps around the field of tables. Don’t forget the open field, because a lot of the really good loot is there. The snack bar is cheap — and well, ok… they have breakfast sandwiches and then at 10am they switch over to lunch — like a grilled cheese or a hot dog. There’s really a wide assortment of things here. It’s a great place to get flowers, plants, vegetables… chickens…rabbits…puppies…knives, guns, vintage toys and LIFE magazines from the 40’s. You will see some things there that would be at a typical yard sale, but there are some really cool things here too, depending on what you’re interested in. Whether it’s vintage linens, a McCoy pottery of Winston Churchill, or Japanese Maple trees for $ 35…the world is your oyster. Oh, and don’t forget the live Bluegrass band. They are there every week. One day I’ll get a picture of the musician playing the bucket. I love his hat. Oh, and apparently there are flea market bargain exchanges for Macon and somewhere in North Carolina on the weekends… something to check out at least.
