We drove 4 hours from LA to get to Trimmer Campground, because the website pictures were beautiful. The park info person said better get there 8−9am, first come first served. When we got there at 9:30 am the place was totally deserted. It looked abandoned like the Salton Sea. The lake has shrunk down to barely more than a grassy mudflat, and no sign of habitation was in evidence. What looked like a camp store nearby was closed. If you want complete privacy, with nothing to look at but sere brown vegetation and a drought-dried lakebed, then this is the place for you. Right now, we’re driving another 4 hours to a campground by the sea, hoping there will be a site open at 2pm. What a colossal disappointment. If one didn’t believe in the disastrous effects of climate change due to global warming, just go to Trimmer Campground to witness tragedy firsthand.
