For a long time I’ve wanted to try out blacksmithing and this was the perfect place to begin. They have one-on-one lessons for anyone 13 years or older. You get to do the hammering and styling of the knife you choose. I forged a knife out of a railroad spike and twisted it to make the handle, but they have smaller materials to work with such as horseshoes and nails. The staff were very kind and I can’t possibly rate them higher or I would give them 6 stars. They’re always looking out for everyone’s safety and are quick to help out, if need be. I asked for some water because the forge can get pretty hot and they gave me a cold bottle, free of charge. Highest recommendations, but make sure you eat before you go – forging is hard work!

Great people. Prices are very fair. Great hands on experience for the kids. They teach you the fundamentals of blacksmithing and give you practical experience in the major steps. The guys take their time in instructing and are very helpful and patient

This was by far the most memorable part of our trip. We came to Iron Mountain not knowing anything about blacksmithing, and within an hour we had forged our own knives from railroad spikes. So cool! How many people can say they have forged a weapon? Their slogan of «forge a memory» is spot on. Not only do we each have unique knives that we made with our own hands, but we have a wonderful memory that will stay with us forever. He doesn’t have a website yet, but below is a link to their Facebook page and an article with more details:
