Gave it a 4 star just because it’s pricey… or maybe I like all the food so much that I make it pricey. Whatever the case is, I haven’t walked out of the place without a $ 50+ order. Which is probably okay with me, but not to most. Their ribs are excellent and they have a few good sauces but I would much rather have their type of ribs with a different sauce selection. Chef Chris works hard at making the ribs well, but to be honest he makes the best, absolute best cornbread that I’ve ever had. My great-grandma would be proud of it. I’d like to see an extremely hot sauce on their selection… hopefully soon.

This BBQ is outstanding. I left the city and drove out to Pinckney just for this cue. The brisket is moist and tender, the buns are made fresh onsite and are delicious. Don’t plan on buying buns to take home though. They are a cue joint not a bakery. The baked beans are phenomenal. These are NOT a pork and beans revamp. They are rich, smokey and made with blueberries. Ribs are meaty and tender but still have some bite to them. This place is well worth the trip. Good BBQ is not cheap and this place was not expensive in terms of barbecue.

Delicious, fresh brisket, good ribs, mac and cheese that is excellent and potato salad that is simple and tasty! I’ve sat down here for the last 3 weekends straight, trying different things on the menu and I haven’t left unsatisfied. I can’t imagine leaving hungry, either. By far the best barbecue in the area, and rivaling the greatest barbecue in Michigan — even when I take into account my family and friends. This place is excellent, do not hesitate to give it a try.

Pulled pork sandwich was so good. If only I still lived in Michigan. Will be coming back for sure.

I love this place and hope it survives. Their ribs are really the best around though sometimes their seasoning is a little inconsistent. The quality of the pork, the smoke flavor the cook quality and meat to fat ratio are fantastic. I’m eat them with little to no sauce as they don’t need to be drowned in anything else for flavor. Last time in, I also had some brisket which I had not sampled in quite a while and it brought back memories of one of my favorites in Dallas Texas. The reason for the«survive» comment is that I see stress in the owners face every time I visit and once he refused my order because he was the only person working and was totally in the weeds. Mp lease support this place so they can get over the top.

The BBQ is awesome. Doesn’t matter if you like beef, chicken, or pork — it’s all excellent. The brisket is cooked to perfection, with a thick and flavorful smoke ring. Potatoe salad is the perfect side to barbecue IMHO, and their potatoe salad tastes exactly like my grandma’s potatoe salad. Their sauce is also awesome. Which is reflective of the care and thought that goes into the quality of the food they serve.

I used to really like the beef brisket here. Unfortunately, the last two times that I have had take out here, the meat was excessively fatty. I mean it was so fatty, that it had the consistency of firm jello. I probably won’t be back for a very long time. I hope the quality of the meat will improve. Brisket is an expensive purchase; worth paying extra for better quality meat. The meat that we had was not worth the time invested in smoking it.

Hands down the best BBQ in the«area». By area, I am referring to the greater Ann Arbor, Brighton, & Dexter/Pinckney area. I have had several, and only continue to frequent(about once every couple of weeks) Boogie Woogie. Prices are fair for quality BBQ, the sides are homemade(mac ‘n cheese is made to order), and never disappoint. If you like spice, check out their Texas HOTBBQ Sauce– it is spicy and flavorful! Great Job Boogie Woogie, can’t wait for my next plate of brisket & pulled pork!

Tried this place for the first time tonight after finding it here on Unilocal. We were not disappointed. The brisket and pork were smoked perfectly. The Mac-n-cheese and corn bread were both very good as well. We will definitely be returning here many times in the future.

This place blows me out of the water every time! We live in Chelsea, but drive to Pinckney to eat here. It far surpasses the bbq places in both Chelsea and Dexter. I order the simple pulled pork plate– pulled pork, one side and corn bread. No, it’s not cheap, but that’s because you are paying for quality food. The location seems odd for such a gem of a restaurant, but I’m so glad it’s there!

Went to Chef Chris’ on the way home from the Ren Fair and found a lot to like about this BBQ joint. It’s a small place out on M-36 just east of Pinckney in a strip mall complete with smoker right out front in the parking lot. I had the brisket plate, added a smoked sausage, and had baked beans as my side and cornbread that came with it. I thought the meat had a good amount of smoky flavor and the brisket was fork tender, very tasty! The sausage had a nice snappy skin and had a nice flavor, not hot or peppery, just a good sausage. The corn bread was good, needed no butter and had corn kernels in it. The baked beans were fine, just not my thing with blueberries baked in them. I picked out the blueberries and it seemed more like your traditional beans. Order at the counter and then come up and grab your food when its ready. Service was quick and we were eating withing a few minutes. All around a very nice bbq joint that would certainly return to!

I come here every time(really multiple times) I am in town visiting family. I always get the pulled pork sandwich with the spicy sauce and slaw. It never disappoints. I also really enjoy the red beans and rice, mac and cheese and the sweet potato casserole. So glad this business lasted as many have turned over in this plaza. See you in July!

This is the best food in the area. REALFOOD people… not some warmed over GFS freeze dried deep fried trash that will bust your gut and empty your wallet… this is man food. People food. Food for people who like food. Who like flavor, substance, authenticity. This place is in another league, and probably too good for most of the hillbillies who live nearby. But for us selective few, its an oasis of deliciousness in a food desert.

I went here after a recent Michigan game as I grew up in the area. The service was fantastic and the food absolutely delicious. I tried the sampler in order to try everything and it is a meal for 2 – 3 people. I had the leftovers wrapped up and took them with me. Really good ribs and sausage and the sauces they provide are very tasty. When I’m back home I’ll return for sure! (Isn’t this considered Lakeland as that is the tiny village(is it that big?) between Hamburg and Pinckney on M-36. At least it was when I lived there.

My quest for barbeque nirvana led me to Pinckney. I truly wanted to love this place. But truth is, I don’t. Not on this visit anyway. Yes, the smoker is ablaze in the parking lot giving confirmation of true smoke cooked meats. Which is a plus in my book. The inside of this strip mall restaurant is small and quaint. Walls adorned with blues memorabelia giving hint to the owner’s other passion and pursuit. I ordered the variety plate with two sides. The rib tips and beef brisket I would not order again. The chicken I found to be moist and flavorful. The pulled pork was on the chewy side, but very flavorful. All the sauces were excellent. Not certain if these are available to purchase as stand alones. My side of collard greens was very good and chock full of meat bits. The mac and cheese I did not care for at all. The sauce was way too creamy for me. Cornbread was tasty but a bit dry and crumbley. I will most likely give it another go. But will try the spareribs next time.

I really love this place. Having grown up in Texas, i often crave some great BBQ, and this place has it! I have been maybe 4 or 5 times and i usually get the same thing: The Rib tip special. Its usually around $ 5 and is a great deal(they always have good lunch specials written on their dry-erase board). I almost always pair it with their spicy Texas sauce. Also try their sandwiches they serves them on these amazing rolls. This place has amazing BBQ I probably eaten at 50+ BBQ places in my life and this ranks with the best. The only reason it didn’t get a 5 is because of the drink options, there is no soda fountain, only cans and some not very good ice tea. So by a large drink at the gas station on the corner and go to Chef Chris’ for amazing BBQ!

I stopped by Boogie Woogie BBQ on a Friday evening to check out another one of the few places in SE Michigan that actually smokes their barbecue… the way real barbecue is made. The fires were still smoldering in the smoker in the parking lot, which like the previous reviewer said… it’s a good sign. I got their rib sampler which contained a little bit of everything. Three ribs, brisket, pulled pork, and a piece of chicken with one side and a nice chunk of cornbread. With a can of coke, this came to about $ 20. A nice cross section of barbecue, but a bit steep for a smaller, out of the way place. Everything was served in a styrofoam take out container with your choice of three sauces. I chose the hot Texas style sauce. Very tasty. The beef brisket was juicy, tender and smokey. Very ‘fall apart’, which I like just fine. The pulled pork was nicely porky with a bit less smoke taste, which is to be expected. The chicken was a very small piece but also tasty and tender. Sadly, the ribs seemed to have been waiting around too long for me to get there. They were very dried out, and in a couple areas, inedible. Ribs are hard to keep moist I know, but these were a bit over the edge. The Mac and cheese I ordered as my side was tasty and served in a large portion. I actually would have gone with a smaller portion of two sides if I could have, for some variety. I easily finished everything, which I suppose I didn’t expect to be able to do when sampling almost everything. In the end, I give Boogie Woogie lots of points for actually earning the name BBQ, by slow smoking their meats, having a good rub and sauces, and giving you the choice as to how you want all of that served. I do recommend the place, but there’s room for improvement. The system for the ribs just isn’t working, and I can’t recommend them. A pulled pork sandwich or brisket on their own for a lunch would probably be stellar. If you’re in the area, or live nearby, Boogie Woogie is a great resource for a bit of the real deal. Tasty.
