Great place for a winter hike. We opted for the Narrow Gauge trail. Great view of the north fork of the South Platte River. The river was frozen over and beautiful. Scenic views, small pedestrian bridges, and an easy morning hike.

This small park, about an hour from Denver. Very popular with fisherman and large groups having picnics. We chose the narrow gauge trail, cause it was supposed to have trees and meadows and a limited grade. It turned out to just be a long drive for a walk on a hot path! The lake was really pretty, there were hawks and bald eagles. There are a couple other trails that are steeper and hiker only, and a restored castle(only open for tours on sundays 11 – 2) Dogs are allowed, on leash It is at 8−9k feet, so there is a break from the heat of denver, also a bonus.
