I had the same experience as the previous reviewer. They listed my dog as UTD on shots and spayed. After I contacted them, they changed it to «scheduled to be spayed», even though they had had her for several months. When I came to pick her up, they seemed surprised that she was in heat. Trust me, it was quite noticeable. Also, «UTD on shots» was not accurate, as they had not administered rabies. My vet was concerned about the lack of even basic preventative health care for a rescue. Finally, it turns out my dog was heart-worm positive, as well, and had a fractured tooth that had to be removed before it abscessed. I have already spent close to $ 1500 in vet bills, and the heartworm treatment isn’t until next month. While I would not give my dog up and am glad I have her, the care she was provided wasn’t at all as advertised. Further, given that heartworm is highly contagious if dogs live in proximity to each other, I would be seriously concerned about the health of any other dog at that rescue. Unless you are prepared to devote a lot of time and money to rehabilitating what you are likely to get from Dakota, you may want to look elsewhere.
