West County Aikido has returned to Pinole and the sense of community endures. The non-​profit has direct ties to Japan’s Hombu dojo, which is headed by the family of O Sensei (Aikido’s founder). Instructors teach a friendly, family style martial art, but have advanced training and are capable of adjusting to the varying abilities of the students. The group practices in the Pinole Youth Center, and there is always a captivated audience.
