Dr. Devine has great bedside manner and communication skills. He explained everything that would happen before, during and after my total knee replacement. He is extremely knowledgeable. I followed his directions and was back to work in 8 weeks. I was back to better than new within 12 weeks. He answered all my questions and was truly concerned with my comfort level from the first consultation to the final follow-up. If I ever replace my other knee I will call Dr. Devine.

Dr. Devine is very nice — he has a great bedside manner, and is good about answering fears about recovery. I waited to see him for over 1 hour, without explanation. Unfortunately, he is not a specialist in Achilles Tendons, and when I went to see him to check up on my rupture repair 1 year post-surgery, I was incredibly disappointed. * He told me that physical therapy had not worked for me up to that point(untrue), and therefore he was unwilling to refer me for more PT * He told me that I was stuck in the«strengthening phase» of my recovery(true), but was not willing to meet with me again or refer me to anyone else in order that I might know when I was out of that phase. * He said«What your tendon will be, will be. Just go do some exercise classes with other young folks like yourself at the gym, and have fun. It’s not anything you can work on at this point.» I called my Seattle Physical Therapist(Tom Gardiner), who explained that unless there was nerve damage when I ruptured(which neither he nor the surgeon had ever experienced), I should be able to get back to 100%. He asked if Dr. Devine was a specialist, which made me realize that I hadn’t asked that question. He gave me a new regimen, which after three weeks, allowed me to run my short runs with much more ease and comfort. After going back to see Tom a week ago while I was in Seattle, we’ve determined that my recovery was stalled due to the move from Seattle to SLO, but that I should be just fine with the new regimen. I even got a timeline for when I should be able to resume hiking here in SLO. What a difference a specialist makes.
