I will never return to this store, or ANYOSH store for that matter! Everyone I encountered in the store asked if they could help me find something — to the point of rudeness by interrupting the conversation with the person I came with. I knew precisely what I wanted. 2, 16″ 2x rimmed Terracotta pots, and planting mix. Out of the 5 pots in stock, 3 were cracked and damaged — I bought the 2 intact ones. Buzz had already asked me twice what he could help me with and I said that I was fine. Then I had difficulty locating the Planting Mixes because I could not see any signage to direct me. I finally went up and down most of the isles in the garden department before I came across the supply of smaller sized bags — I was expecting to find pull-tags for the larger equivalent bags. THEN«Buzz» comes around the corner and asked me, «What can I help you find now?» I am trying to be polite and this employee is being let’s say, ‘overly-zealous’ and very irritating! I told him I had found what I was looking for and was just thinking about which kind of product to use for my project. He persists by asking me about the details of the project. I explained that I was transplanting two bamboo plants and because the pots are so heavy I was planning to add packing peanuts to the bottom. He rolled his head and eyes and said, «Don’t do that — the sub-structure of the soil is so important!» «The packaging peanuts will DAMAGE the Bamboo and that I should just buy rollers.» I told him that I had just read an article that supports my plan. He argued to the contrary… I asked him, «So, you are telling me that you have verifiable, documented evidence to back up your assertion — he said yes. When I told him that I was a past Horticulture Major and involved in such over the past 45 years, Buzz: «Well I’ve been studying this since I was 8 years old.» I told him, «I DONOTWANTYOURHELP!!!» I felt insulted and angry so I decided to just leave. I told Cashier Linda what happened — she just stared at me. I asked her if she even cared and she just continued to silently stare at me. She was wearing a partially covered name badge so I asked her for her name. She then found her voice: «Why do you want my name?» I don’t have a lot of money, but I vote with it by deciding WHERE I do or don’t make future purchases!

I was having trouble finding/special ordering a Deer Park Ironworks plant stand to be sent to my local OSH so I called around myself. Ken, nursery mgr of Pismo Beach OSH said they had none but there were four in Capitola. if Santa Maria did not actually have one(showed one in inventory), he would drive to Capitola and get me one! Such exceptional and unusual customer service. Five stars to Ken and OSH Pismo Beach! susan s.

Not always easy to track down a worker, but once you do, you will find what you are looking for. I can only attest to small projects. 9 out of 10 times they have the parts I need.

Great store! There are actually people there to help you out and you can get in, get the stuff you need for your project, and get out without spending half a day like I do in the Big Box store. People in the paint department are knowledgeable and helpful.

If you know exactly what you need and where in this store to find it, you may have an OK experience here. But if, like me, you don’t know a lot about various types of hardware, go to Miners where there are people around to answer questions. I’ve been to this OSH countless times(Cuz it’s closer than Home Depot) and RARELY have I been helped by anyone who knows what they are talking about. Seriously, I have been in this store on a Saturday when they have had NOONE on the floor to help. Just checkers to take your money. They really, REALLY need to get a manager who knows something about customer service because there is no service here at all. None.

So,…Last night I showed up at OSH at 8:40(It closes at 9 p.m.) and a very kind and knowledgeable sales person helped me to pick out the proper cement and sand for a project and handed me the pick-up tickets and I headed to the register only for the clerk to tell me that the pick up location in the back was closed. I tried explaining that her colleague just handed me the tickets. Her reply was, «You don’t have to be so condescending.» I was pretty shocked. She then called the manager over to help me and the manager called to the back on a phone and another colleague came to the front confirming that the back was now closed. The manager asked if I could come back tomorrow. It was VERY clear to me that the three of them were only thinking about getting home rather than selling me something at five minutes until closing time. Customer service? hmmmmm Home Depot is looking pretty good!

In terms of «do-it-yourself» hardware stores, there are two big options you could go to anywhere in the country — Home Depot or Lowe’s. There’s also the smaller stores such as ACE Hardware. But in California, there’s a third option… OSH. This location carries most items that you would see in Home Depot or Lowes such as paint, lawn and garden, fertilizer, and more. The only difference here is that the staff knows a lot about how to fix things on your own, and they will help you out in finding that particular tool you need to finish your project. That’s good customer service. And near the end of the year, they have free calendars! So, if you can’t find what you need at Home Depot or Lowe’s(if that’s even possible), try OSH.
