Ok, let me start with being afraid when we approached. They had a honk when your here sign and its more like a bunker when you go in. but the surprise is… dont turn and run… the wine is really… really good. I think out of 13, I really liked 9 or 10 and 3 or 4 were great. It was a real experience and the host Wally, was super nice. The music was a bit odd for a wine tasting but still be had fun and I would come again. We were visiting the cat rescue and woudl stop by again when we pick up out cat So, dont be put off, go in and have a blast. The wines are great

Love LaLa and Wally. They’ve always been good to us coming in in a group. Lots of good wines to try and chat about how they’re made.

The best. I’ve been there so many times that I’ve gotten to know the owner Wally. He is a great guy and very knowledgeable about every aspect of the wine making process. Personally my favorite part of going is tasting GREAT wines with LaLa. If you’re new to wine tasting or even an old hat at it she will make sure you feel comfortable and have a BLAST. I was recently there with a group of 7 of my friends for ones birthday. We invaded the winery with all kinds of party foods and proceeded to have one hell of a day. Love, Love, Love this place

I love this winery! It is off the beaten path and has a no frills tasting room but it also has seriously good wine and a very friendly staff.

We love the wine and love our server Lala! We have been here multiple times and will certainly return. The vineyard is beautiful, located on a ridge with a gorgeous view! The tasting area may not be the most sophisticated on the outside, but its nice inside. Most importantly the quality of the wine is very consistently high for all varieties from sweet whites to heavier reds. This is my favorite winery in NC from a consistent quality stand point.

Stopped in real quick to buy a couple of bottles. The Gentleman was really friendly and helpful. The location is pretty. Pricing is very reasonable. I opted not to do a tasting as I was pressed for time. I will be back there way to purchase again though. This place really had this rustic feel to it which was cool. Update: We had purchased two bottles of red wine. One for a steak dinner and the other for desert. The first bottle of wine I opened and let breathe for awhile. I tasted the first glass and there was a distinct smell and taste of plastic. There were only a couple of others drinking wine and they each came to the same verdict as I did. The wine was awesome but had this slight taste as if it were stored in plastic at some point. We drank the bottle though so that either tells you that it was decent wine or that we are total bottom shelf whores. The second bottle was wonderful. I will revisit them again for sure and since this was an unexpected place to stop in it made for an overall cool trip.

Pricing here for the tastings are very good: $ 5 for 7 wines or $ 8 for all the wines(we got 15). I’m no wine connoisseur but I would say there were a bunch of wines we tried that were just not very good. The owner and server were both very friendly but I think I would have liked something a little bit more professional, especially hearing more about the wines from them than just having a sheet of paper with descriptions on it in front of me. This place could definitely work on the ambience and general presentation a little more. The tastings took place in a shed-like building and the inside was completely orange and spongey and made me feel like I was sitting in the inside of Jabba the Hut’s stomach. I would not recommend this for a date setting — there are definitely nicer places in the Triangle area. All in all, I enjoyed getting drunk on $ 8 though and we took a bottle of a sweeter red home.

Mrs. B and I were on our way to another winery when we saw the sign for Silk Hope. We decided to try it on the way back and were glad we did. After turning off the road onto a moderately inclined dirt driveway we eventually found what looked more like a small airplane hanger than your standard winery building. We walked in and were greeted by Wally the owner. He was super nice and invited us to sit at a table over by the wine bar. We opted to do the full selection tasting. For what seemed like such a small operation he had a lot of wines to try. I think we ended up tasting close to 18 when all was said and done. The wines lean more towards the dry side. I’m more of a sweet wine person, but Mrs. B likes them on the dry side so she enjoyed them a bit more than I did. One thing I did like was that he let us sample one particular wine from three different years in a row(one year hadn’t even been bottled yet). Very interesting to taste the difference the aging gives it from a very funky wild taste to the more settled and refined after a couple of years. There isn’t a porch or much of a hangout area like a lot of wine places usually have. It was a nice day when we visited so a porch with a rocker to kick back in while sipping a glass of wine would have been nice. All in all Silk Hope is worth checking out. Wally is very nice, knowledgeable, and passionate about his craft. Even if the wines don’t blow you away, it is interesting to get a little more inside scoop on the various styles offered while you’re tasting them.

I visited SilkHope Winery as the last stop on a «Heart of North Carolina» wine trail tour. It was described by the tour guide as «the most eccentric winery» that we would be visiting, and it definitely proved to be just that! Located in a somewhat desolate area of Pittsboro, the winery is small and family owned. The tastings were held in a structure that could be described as an elongated silo(more long than tall). The tastings themselves are a very good deal(either $ 5 for all the whites or reds(of which there are 6 or 7 each) or $ 8 to taste all the wines). Sadly, I really did not find any of the wines that I sampled enjoyable. Clearly I am by no stretch a sommelier but I think I have developed the ability to somewhat distinguish a «crappy»(sommelier term) wine from a classy wine. Plus not one other person at my table(all of whom were clearly more well versed in wines and wineries than I) gave a thumbs up any of the wines presented. Nonetheless, the owners and staff members were very friendly and easy to talk to. They clearly have a passion for and enjoy what they’re doing. If they spruced up the area a bit, I do believe that would go a long way towards attracting more customers and increasing their business.
