Delta View Golf Course

Have played this course several times over the years, without fail something crazy always happens here. This morning we had the utter enjoyment of watching a group of 6 in front us put around the greens for what seemed like forever. Called the golf shop but they really did not seem to care, this went on all day. Hopefully we never go back. Absolutely would not recommend to any serious golfer.

I’ve played this course a lot and I like the layout — there are some tough holes, narrow fairways — but what I am reviewing today is the driving range — I come here cause it still has grass instead of mats — They raised the price of a small bucket from 4 to 5 bucks awhile back which was fine — but — now — the small bucket is tiny 23 – 24 balls — come on guys — if your gonna raise the price, dont lower the ball count too

Love the layout of this course, especially the front 9. Elevation changes, risk/​reward holes, etc… Nice staff, price is right.

I love this place! Everyone is super nice when I take my son to practice the 9 holes.

Some fun holes… but not in really good shape. Some areas over watered and the greens were not in good condition.

I had to deliver a cake here. The place is nice but there was a really rude lady working there. I didn’t appreciate her attitude. I think that she needs an attitude adjustment because I could have been a potential customer. But knowing that if I rent the place for an event I’d have to deal with her, no thank you. I pass. I think that employees need to realize that they are the face of the place and their actions can deter or attract people from wanting to go there. I’m not sure if she was the manager or not, but if she is, I feel bad for her staff. They must have to deal with a lot of crap all the time. The only good thing about the delivery experience were the two gentlemen that helped us when we first arrived. They were both friendly. She needs to pick up a thing or two from them.

Greens were challenging.

No Marshall, long waits at every hole & tempers were flying with golfers hitting into others while putting.

Just a solid, honest, affordable, muni course. A lot of variety with the course; flat holes, straight holes, doglegs, elevation changes, and when the wind picks up it turns into entirely different beast. The have a frequent player card that beats down the price more, which i got. I’ll come here after work for super twilight and walk the course for $ 9. I’ll get about 10 – 12 holes in before dark. Walking the course can be a bit of daunting, but when you play for under a buck a hole it’s worth it.

I played the course Sunday, ⁷⁄₂₈ and it’s still a «4» in my mind. This day was especially windy and I was just happy to come off the course w/​a 95. The wind was howling the entire round. I felt like I was playing in a wind tunnel. This course definitely plays differently w/​a strong wind. I would recommend clubbing up at least 1 club and sometimes 2… if you are playing into the wind or if the wind is blowing sideways.

Having played this course several times you never know what you are going to get. If the wind is up, watch out! If its howling then you might as well just enjoy the outing as your score is going to shoot up the scales.
The front is a lot of fun as you head up into the hills and some awesome sights of the delta. The highlight is no. 8. You are waaaaaay up on a cliff hitting down onto the fairway, take the Driver and give the green a shot!
The back nine takes you to more level ground but they are filled with dog legs, lots of trees and challenging greens. They need to work on the bunkers as they are solid clay but other than that the course is in pretty good shape.
The price is very reasonable ($ 25 bucks with cart) and they got food and a bar but I have never ate there so you are on their own. Though it was super windy today and my score sucked I will be back.

Lovely Golf Course. The wedding was nice!

I really enjoyed playing here. The layout on the back 9 is very tight, but can be a lot of fun. After the first time I played here, I ended up back there less than a week later. The rates are very reasonable and the conditions were nicer than the rates might lead you to think.

This is just a solid, honest, interesting, very affordable, muni course… with an Alister MacKenzie pedigree thrown in.
There wasn’t a lot of earth moved to build this course. The landscape was used to create the elevation changes, doglegs, and occasional blind shots.
The first hole is admittedly poor, and really nothing more than a 4 iron/​190yds is required. But after that things pick up with holes 4 – 8 being the highlight of the front 9. On the back 9, from 12 onwards there is enough variety in the holes to keep your attention. The course isn’t long by any means, played from the regular tees, but with the doglegs and trees, it is not always a matter of mashing one. If you can work it left and right, by all means, but if you have a preferred shot shape, some long irons or rescue clubs may be needed off the tee, when the direction of the hole doesn’t suit.
It is walkable and I have done so both times this year, but be warned there are some serious elevation changes and hills to negotiate if you do so. Since a golfnow round with a cart is still $ 35 or less, you really don’t need to, I just prefer to stretch my legs.
Like some other courses in certain locations, do not leave anything that can be pawned in your car and also expect to get some complete numpties with no golf etiquette/​sense… such as the morons driving their cart in front of us on the 3^rd tee to try and find some open space, to only return a few mins later when they realised it was a packed Sunday afternoon. Or the ones whose cart died and instead of shlepping their bags for a hole or two, waited in the fairway for a replacement to be brought out.
As with most munis, marks off for the general condition of the course. I would say forgot the fairways and rough and concentrate on getting the greens and tees sorted and you’re on to a winner. Really a 3.5÷5.

Went here yesterday with a buddy of mine to check out the course, and I must say I was impressed.
First of all, it was a very cheap round. 30 bucks with a cart, cant beat that with a stick.
Loved the Allister McKenzie design, but only the front nine was designed by him. The back nine design is good, but a drastically different feel to the front 9 (to me at least). Loved the grass bunkers throughout the course.
The layout of the course was great, and challenging. A lot of dog legs going both ways. The elevated tee boxes were great, very fun.
The greens were fast, consistent, and in good condition. Some bunkers had wet hard sand but it wasn’t too game breaking (I try to avoid those anyways).
Fairways were in pristine condition, and the second cut around the greens were workable and made for some nice chips /​pitches.
Clubhouse was awesome, great sandwiches and hot dogs. Friendly staff.
The weather at the course was hot and sunny. Bring sunscreen.

For a muni the place is outstanding. Half is designed by legend Mr. McKenzie, who supposedly did the job cause his mistress at the time lived in the area. Who knows.
Grass driving range and decent practice green for chipping and putting.
Cheap rounds, about $ 20 or $ 25 if you walk and add $ 10 or $ 12 for cart.
Varied layout: flat holes, straight holes, doglegs, elevation changes, undulating greens. Not all munis give you so much variety.
Wind can really howl out here at times. Solid golf experience awaits.

Golf Course Review:
I’ve gotten a little motivated over the last couple of mornings and I’m trying to bust out some reviews for the Epic Breakdown of NorCal Golf. If you’ve read any of my other reviews, you’ll know that I am slowly working my way through every course listed on golfnow in the SF Bay Area. I’m doing so on a budget and therefore, my reviews are heavily weighted towards «bang for the buck». Unless a course absolutely gives me a stiffy, I’m rating based on the qualities of the course versus my ability to afford the tee time.
Delta View…
Delta View gets a nod just for being an Allister Mackenzie course. Yep… Augusta, Cypress Point, Pasatiempo, St Andrews Old Course, etc. Same same. An argument could be made that the upside or that the downside to Delta View is that it’s an Allister Mackenzie muni.
Argument 1:
This is not a straight forward, level, big green muni. I can’t think of another course that incorporates elevation changes the way this course does and its fun because of it. There are two holes that instantly come to mind… a dog leg right par 5 that has you teeing off from 100ft above your target, only to go back up hill towards the green. It’s classic risk/​reward. The further you cut the corner, the closer your second and approach shots are going to be but the more likely you end up in the shit or with a crappy, ball above your feet lie. The approach can be a little cumbersome, but the tee shot is friggin’ awesome. Hole #9 too… its a short par 4 that looks a mile long. But again, you’re teeing off from 100+ft up. Grip it and rip it (just avoid the water on the right =).
Delta View is a veritable wind tunnel and depending on what day and what time you hit it, it gets nutty. When that wind gets whipping, good luck… a 10+ stroke difference is almost expected in my experience.
It’s a fun course. There’s so much variety between the holes. There are short holes with tiny greens and weird hills. There are long holes with elevated tee shots and a backsplash if you will that allows you to take extra club. There’s water and classic Mackenzie bunkers. I dig it and you can often find a great deal here… $ 16 on the hot deals section of golfnow at noon today.
Argument 2:
How do you let an Allister Mackenzie course get so F’d up? This guy created about 30 courses in his time and about a quarter or more of them would make the Golf Digest Places to play list. He’s a legend.
The greens here are shit. From what I was told, someone used a pesticide or weed killer of some sort that wasn’t supposed to be watered. They watered it. It killed the grass. The greens had huge patches in them which were poorly done and as another reviewer mentioned, looked like a patchwork quilt. I have a hard enough time putting. Tisk tisk tisk. Maybe it’s gotten better as the «fix» has matured.
The fairways are chewed up at times, get dried out and it doesn’t look like they put much effort into filling people’s divots. People should be doing this themselves, but you know… it’s a muni. The sand in the bunkers is inconsistent or nonexistent. Listen… It’s not horrible, but it definitely has a lot of room for improvement.
The first hole is a par 4 with water you can reach from the tee box. The problem is you can’t see the water and there’s no sign to warn you of this fact. So unless you’ve played here before or are playing with someone that has, it can be a little disheartening to bomb a drive and then realize it’s getting a bath. Mackenzie is a jerk =).
I’m all for letting trees mature on a course, but there comes a time where a little trimming might be in order. There’s a long-​ish hole on the back nine, with a fairway that leans OB. But right where your average hitter is going to hit the ball to keep it safe but still have a reasonable shot at the green, there’s a giant oak tree that’s been there for 100 years. It’s a mangly old tree and its in the friggin’ way =).
To wrap this up…
It’s a fun course that’s inconsistently cheap to play. Some days its $ 40. Some days its $ 16. Apparently they use fancy algorithms as well. It’s an Allister Mackenzie design that needs a bigger budget to maintain properly. A bigger budget would probably equate to a bigger rate to play, and I think they could find a happy medium because this could be such a great course… one that I’d be willing to spend a little more on. The grounds crew F’d up, but shit happens. Maybe now that they’re not fixing the greens again, they can spend some more time on the other stuff. It’s windy as shit which makes it interesting until it gets ridiculous at which point you just kind of laugh at the ridiculousness.
I really like the course even with its flaws and will definitely play here again… at the $ 16 rate =).

I was part of the bridal party for a wedding here this week and although the weather was a bit chilly, the ceremony was beautiful.
This golf course is really great in my opinion. The rehearsal was just meh but the organizer was not the same person who was organizing the actual wedding the next day.
Amanuel was the organizer on the day of the wedding and he was so accommodating and had everything ready for us when we arrived to finish getting the last few things ready.
The food at the reception was outstanding! There was a big variety to pick from and everything that I sampled tasted perfect. The room that the reception was in was the perfect size for the size of the wedding and the dancefloor was pretty nice. I’m not sure if the DJ and sound system were part of the golf course or not but the DJ Matt was one of the best I’ve heard and the sound system didn’t have any weird gliches or static or anything.
Definitely one of the best weddings I have been to and would consider having other events at this venue.

I play here… a lot. I’m in their frequent players club, which provides a discount on greens fees, some free range tokens and a 12 rounds-​gets-​you-​one-​free deal.
This is a bit-​more-​challenging than average muni. But not so much that the average hacker won’t enjoy a round. Greens these last few months have been VERY slow relative to other munis. Course itself is in just average shape, and it’s clear that ongoing course work is incomplete. But this is generally true of most municipal courses that aren’t trying to price themselves as semi-​private. We have several such offenders in the East Bay.
Rather, Delta View presents itself for what it is — an inexpensive muni that still offers enough variety from hole to hole so as to offer an enjoyable golf experience.
It’s not a deceptive or difficult course (at least not for anyone who carries a 15 or better index — I’m currently an 11). Fairways are generously wide, there is very little punitive hazards and what you see is what you get. Greens are not tricky, especially as slow as they have been for the last several months.
It also tends to be one of the least crowded public courses in the East Bay, which is very nice. There is only one downside I would note about Delta View. There is one particular marshal out there who seems to delight in cussing out golfers for offenses real or imagined. I’ve seen him take foursomes to task for the smallest breaches of etiquette, and on a few occasions for imagined offenses. He’s rude, brusque, churlish and a curmudgeon — ironically forgetting it’s the green fees we pay that allow him to exercise his power over the madding throng.
Aside from this tool, the staff is friendly and helpful. As such, Delta View has unassumingly become sort of my home course of sorts when I want to play a pleasant round, enjoy a good cigar and have a laugh with my boys.

This is my home course so call me stuck up for giving it an A-​OK. The course is never in pristine shape. It can be an incredible course, but anyone whose played enough golf courses can tell when they are just putting band aids on some serious injuries.
The greens today had patches that looked like they’ve been sewn in. It looked like a patch work that your grandma use to make on your school jacket when it had a hole in it. A few of the greens were cut pretty unevenly also.
Some of the bunkers, like on hole #4, need to be taken care of a little bit better. There are also a few yardage markers that are missing that need to be replaced.
DVGC does offer up some good views though. The tee box on the 8^th hole is situated on an elevated tee that’s drivable to a par 4 green for most long hitters. It is a thing of beauty to see a ball land on the green or close to it from that tee box. The par three 9^th hole, which use to be the 18^th hole for some time, is a nice attraction also.
The golf course is relatively short but is still challenging. It’s about golf course management here and not whether you can bomb the crap out of a small dimpled ball.
As for the staff… well, they’re so-​so. This course is cheaper than a lot of other neighboring public courses which is why I think a lot of people like it, but with a few improvements it can be a strong 4-​star in my book.

Great course. Here’s why:
+ Fast greens. Usually for public courses, greens are not cut this well.
+ A devilishly deceptive course. It’s shorter than most, but the narrow fairways and inconveniently placed trees/​bunkers punish you if you are not on target. However, for relief, there are alternating holes with wider fairways for you to catch your breath.
+ A nice driving range that lets you hit off of real grass. And not that disgusting chunky and thick grass at most driving ranges — the grass is cut like its fairways.
+ Conveniently placed bathrooms on the course. Always helpful if you’re a girl and drink beer! :)
+ CHEAP AS HELL! For $ 40 including cart on a Saturday morning, you would think this place would be a goat track. The fact that it’s so nicely maintained and remains affordable is money in my books.
They have a pretty sweet bar to boot. Be sure to get some polish dogs (best deal in the house) and beer if you’re hungry.

Some caveats:
– There are a LOT of bunkers here, and many of them can be so shallow that if you hit in them, they careen right back out into parts unknown.
– This course, like many in the Pittsburg/​Brentwood area, can get very windy and cold when it’s not blazing hot! So be careful and bring a windbreaker.
Overall, a good challenging course that won’t break the bank. It’s also not ever that busy for some odd reason, so if you go, you won’t have to worry about being stuck behind people!
One last thing… Delta View, your website could use some work! Have someone redesign it for aesthetic appeal!
