Having bought a 100+ Year Old house — it definitely came with some characteristics as well as some challenges. Since our House was completely renovated inside out by the seller — the only major thing that the house needed was«repointing». For the newbie H/O Repointing is the process of removing deteriorating mortar from the joints of a masonry wall and replacing it with new mortar. It’s a labor intensive and a pretty expensive job. But don’t get too alarmed since repointing is supposed to last for at least another 50 to 100 years. An expensive job like this calls for a lot of research — So, after going through few different contractors — I finally reached out to Enrique Avila from Avila Construction. Enrique and his crew came the next day and after few rounds around the house — he came up with an estimate which was far lower than the other contractors. Needless to say — we went with Avila Construction. Fast forward a week and the house is neatly tucked and re-pointed. He was very professional and understanding about our requests and asked up to double check to make sure we were happy with his work. So, if you own or are planning on buying an old house that needs major renovation. I would highly recommend you contact Avila Construction since they specifically specialize in remodeling older homes.

Avila Construction is a great company with hard working individuals and very affordable prices. Enrique Avila is the owner and is very easy to work with. The best thing about Enrique is that he makes sure that you understand all of your options when doing remodeling. One good example of this is the bathroom sink we installed in our shop’s ADA-compliant bathroom. Initially, we were disappointed when we found out that the sink we wanted was not ADA(handicapped) compliant, but Enrique showed us how he could make a brace for the sink we wanted and still have it ADA-compliant. It ended up looking beautiful. He has a good feel for what will look good cosmetically and takes pride in his work. He also explained our options regarding our ceiling — how it could remain a dropped ceiling, or how it could be a flat ceiling with exposed ductwork(which many restaurants are doing now), or how it could be a new drywall ceiling attached to some newly installed joists. During the time Enrique worked on our shop he was dedicated to our project — his other projects took a back seat and he started no new projects. Enrique doesn’t talk down to you and he explains things very well. His prices are very reasonable and his craftsmanship is top-notch. He did a bathroom, office, glass block wall, new window(knocking out brick and cement block) and much more for us and it all looks beautiful. The only area that needs a little improvement is his cost-estimating — not that it is bad, but only that he is slow in getting back to you with an exact price(due to the many unknowns when doing a cost estimate). If you’re in a hurry, I would just have him give you a lower and upper range and have him do the job. He is trustworthy and will not rip you off.

Avila Construction is great… I just bought an old house, and it needs many, many, many repairs. The house came with some pretty awful looking drop ceilings, so Enrique and his crew gave me new solid ceilings which look beautiful. They refinished my hardwood floors and repaired several damaged floor boards. The floors now look amazing! Enrique installed crown molding in my bedroom and it’s lovely! Enrique’s pricing is fair, and he does a great job. They all work long hours and work very hard. He does roofing repairs, gutters, chimney repairs, siding, brick re-pointing, drywall, interior/exterior painting, any sort of cosmetic remodeling. If you speak Spanish, that’ a bonus… since that’s Enrique’s native language. I highly recommend!
