BodyWorks of ShadySide

I bought a groupon for BodyWorks and have left several messages on their VM as well as several messages on their online message system to schedule a massage. I have yet to hear from them. If I try to schedule online with their scheduling system, the soonest time I can schedule is in May! Ridiculous! I want my money back from groupon!!!

This is a review if a massage I received this past weekend. I had a groupon for a 60 min massage plus 15 min foot scrub. The location of this place is pretty bad. It’s in a ghetto giant eagle parking lot in the basement of a chiropractor’s building. My actual massage was below average. I did not have Jeff, the owner as a therapist. I had another girl and I can’t recall her name. The girl that gave me the massage was very sweet. Honestly, I have had better massages, but it was okay and relaxing. The massage and foot scrub in total lasted less than 55 mins (I thought it would be closer to 75 mins). I noticed how incredibly dusty the floors were in my room. You can tell the floors have not been cleaned at least for 3 weeks or even a month. I was really disgusted when I was walking around with bare feet in that room. Lastly, when we were finished I asked my therapist for some water and she said they didn’t have any. One minute later I see Jeff walk out of the other room and he had a bottle of water. Overall, putting it nicely, it was a below average experience for me. While the price is pretty cheap for a massage in Pittsburgh, I would rather pay more and have a better experience somewhere that is not in a basement.

Contrary to other Unilocal reviews about Bodyworks of Shadyside, I couldn’t have had a more positive experience.
I got a discount for being a first timer and talked directly with Jeffery, the therapist who was going to be preforming my massage.
I was told to arrive a few minutes early but not knowing how long it would take me to get cross town I arrived a full half hour early. Plenty of parking in a well light safe environment, Jeffery was actually there already and was prepped for me.
It’s a beautiful space and we had a nice discussion before he began.
Great appropriate music and very clean environment made me completely relaxed in very skilled hands.
Massage was very therapeutic and writing this the next evening all the knots in my back gone.
I had a great experience and couldn’t recommend it more.
The only reason not giving five stars is that I personally felt he was TOO by the book, unlike what other reviews said but like with all therapies a trust and bond need to be forged.
Been with my psychologist for a decade now and nothing I wouldn’t tell her and I’ll definitely continue going to Bodyworks of Shadyside again and again. Great job, place and massage by Jeffery.

UPDATE: I received contact from Jeffrey, the owner, over the weekend. He informed me that my therapist has since been released from his position at BodyWorks.
Unfortunately, the outreach that the owner provided was primarily to blame me for not instructing my therapist on how to provide my massage. If this is the status quo massage that was provided by BodyWorks, I am still unfortunately dissatisfied. Furthermore, he indicated that I requested the massage be for relaxation (which is true), however the environment and conversation that the therapist subjected me to were anything but.
I hope that if others do visit BodyWorks, they share their experiences via review if they are markedly different than mine. I would hate to paint an incorrect picture of the business, but this was my one and only visit and I can’t provide any other better remarks. There was one other review that had been posted, also in regards to the Groupon offer and the reviewers experience, but I believe it has since been removed.

I also used a Groupon and had a fabulous experience. I’ve been back twice and both times went to Jeff. As the previous Unilocaler mentioned, he chatted the first time, but the next couple times I wanted to quiet experience, and simply told him that, and it was completely silent and great. He has a great technique of firm pressure with a relaxing experience. I get massages often and he is one of my favorite massages in the city!

I went to BodyWorks with a groupon. There is free parking which is a bonus and the place was beautifully decorated. The room was full of candlelight and the massage was incredible. Jeffrey spent more time with me than was allotted and finished with an amazing foot scrub that gave me tingles all over. I ended up purchasing a package for 4 massages and have been back for one. I would highly recommend BodyWorks and am so glad I found a masseuse who is dependable and extremely good.
