I would never use this salon. Made my wife an appointment there and they could not do her hair as they did not know how to do african american hair.

I only got a haircut but appreciate that they only do natural looking balayage instead of foils, which is really hard to find in the Pittsburgh area. It is a far way to travel from my home, but this will be my go-to place if I ever decide to do highlights. I also like that the salon/owner is socially conscious and animal friendly. I didn’t appreciate standing for the first half of my haircut. It was really very awkward and tiresome. My stylist said it was so she could cut evenly, but I’ve gotten many satisfactory haircuts elsewhere from the comfort of a chair. Otherwise, I recommend it.

I needed help badly! My last hairdresser had fried my hair to such lengths that I thought I was a goner. I had been a platinum blonde for 2 years with a short cut and the ends were cooked. In my desperation I looked on Unilocal for reviews for somewhere to get me out of this soup. Daquila seemed the answer. I had no problem making an appointment or even being seen on time. In fact the stylist, Brittanny, could not have been any sweeter or knowledgable. We talked for a good 10 or 15 minutes before she started to work but I think lshe missed the part where I said I liked lighter shades. To make a long story short, she not only gave me very dark roots with lightish ends(read that greenish) but she gave me a haircut I had 30 years ago! She made me look really OLD!!! Se kept saying how natural it looked. Sorry but I’m really not into the natural look! That’s why I was a platinum ! I was so upset about it I ended up shaving my .head.(2 days later).

I grew tired of the color and cut I was receiving at my regular Brooklyn salon despite my efforts to explain that I wanted something different. And I happened to be in PIttsburgh for a few days, so I did a Unilocal search and found Daquila Hair Color Studio. Now I visit the salon every time I am in town! I have been to the salon about three times now, and it’s always a pleasure to visit Deborah and have her cut and color my hair. I love walking into the pleasant environment and being greeted by her adorable dogs!(And I love it even more that Deborah is actually a dog rescuer and does so much to help unfortunate pups in the Pittsburgh area by holding raffles, offering discounts on services for donations from time to time, etc.) And what I love most is that Deborah really does great color. She does Balayage(a French highlighting technique) on my hair and it always comes out looking sun-kissed and natural, plus it grows out so well! She also gives great cuts – always recommending what she thinks will look best while taking into account what works for my face shape, hair type, lifestyle, etc. I have to admit that I am sometimes slow to appreciate the true beauty of my cut until a few weeks afterwards, but then it hits me because my cut usually grows out so well that I would be a fool not to notice. I have received numerous compliments on my hair after visiting the salon, and since I don’t like to be at the stylist every 6 weeks, I need a stylist that understands that I am pretty low maintenance about my hair but still want it to look great with minimal effort. Visiting the salon is required when I’m in town. If you’re looking for an unpretentious place and some excellent color services, visit Daquila. And if you’re a dog lover, it’s an added bonus!(Although if you’re not, they are able to accommodate you too by keeping the dogs elsewhere so you’re comfortable. I asked.)

I think the business name is misleading; Daquila Hair Color Studio is also a great place to get a cut! My partner has been getting his cuts here for a year or so with great results. I finally decided to give them a try myself. I made my appointment with Nicole for a Friday, which they call a clinic day because the owner, Deborah, sort-of councils the staff while they work. As I understood it, services are cheaper on Fridays because of this. At first, it seemed like it’d be a stressful environment, but I found that having the two of them assess my hair was not an inconvenience, but a benefit, as a second opinion was always on hand! Deborah helped design the plan for my hair and Nicole executed it with ease. As another reviewer mentioned, she really took her time; that really makes a client feel special. I have never seen this place get very busy, and I have to wonder why because their staff is qualified, their prices are fair, and the space is bright and very pleasant.

Unassuming exterior on Penn Circle South– parking lot in back. Big and bright space inside– hair cutting stations towards the front and dying stations in the back. I was greeted by the owner, Deborah’s, two Cocker Spaniels– very sweet. Then Deborah sat me down and assessed what wanted– which was to take my dark brown hair to light brown/honey. She uses a Balayage technique,(which she learned in Paris– and continues to travel there once a year for training.) The entire process took around 2.5−3 hours– but the result was beautiful. I absolutely adore my new hair color. Definitely not a super cheap place– I think my final cost was around $ 160+ tip– but worth it! Will definitely be back. xx
