Pittsburgh is the city of bridges, and the Urban Redevelopment Association touted this as an ‘interesting addition’: A bridge connecting«Eastside”(Also known as «the part of East Liberty white people aren’t afraid to be in») to Ellsworth avenue. This bridge solves the apparent lack of walkability from Shadyside to Whole Foods(And the liquor store), and keeps the area bright with large lighting orbs and glass sequins covering the 12-foot-tall fence — presumably to keep«those damn kids» from throwing stuff on the train tracks below. I don’t know if it was ever addressed why they didn’t just improve the Highland ave bridge at the other end of the parking lot — presumably because many felt that walking down those steps was«pretty sketchy» — a hard reputation to overcome. The sequins were made locally by the Pittsburgh Glass Center, and the bridge was designed by someone of The ‘Burgh, even though they live in WA now. That being said, it’s convenient, and I benefit from it. It does look very nice, and puts me that much closer to Petagogy.
