Ive been coming to this place off and on for years and sometimes more frequently than Id care to admit. What I can tell you about Images is that its a typical run of the mill Pittsburgh gay bar. Its a cheap drinks, cheap company, smoky/musky smelling place where you’re certainly to get harassed for spare change for the bus or even to buy some vagrant a drink. Its a place you’re going to see things you wished you didn’t, people you will probably feel sorry for, and only after a couple drinks will you forget where you’re at and start to have a good time. Over the last ten years the clientele has been steadily declining and more or less mirrors the bus stop outside the front door.

Visiting the Pittsburgh area to watch my Packers take on the Steelers. Found this cool little spot online and decided to try it out. Really cool spot and would highly recommend it. The drinks specials were great and a freaking double was the price I would pay for half a drink in New York which was made extremely well. Very diverse location with good music for the most part. The bartenders were great as well especially with my drink being made the right way the first time lol. They also had a moment when one of the bartenders passed out shots over the bar. Wasn’t my brand but I appreciated the fact lol. Arrive at 12 since it seemed to get crazy packed on the Friday I visited.

Dingy, dive gay bar. The beer selection wasn’t the worst and the bartenders were friendly. The DJ was fun and took requests via Twitter — even paired with music videos. The crowd was on the older side and there were some strange(but perfectly harmless) folks. Unfortunately, we could not deal with the smell of cigarette smoke and eventually had to leave smelling like ashtrays.

I will never complain about philly gay bars and clubs again. after visiting pgh for a bit. i went searching for my ppl, that in itself was a chore, when i finally found a bar it was not the most pleasant, it’s this bar /hole in the wall called IMAGES. At first i thought it would be a good experience but after my first drink i was over it. The dring was so watered down that drinking water would hv had more of a kick. I finished it though, although it was only 3 $ it could hv been better, the bar tender was not the friendliest either. After my first drink, i waited and waited and waited for him to notice me and inquiry of me if i wanted another, which i did but after being ignored i decided to go somewhere else, if he didn’t want my money I’m sure there are others that would be willing to take it. So i left. They say first impressions are the strongest and last lasting ones, well my impression of this place was not good. being from out of town i expected a bit more but i Guss that’s asking for too much. In all fairness I’d give this place another chance to earn my business or never to come back. On to the nx.

Walked into Images Bar on Saturday night after being at the Beer Fest at the Convention Center. We had a co-ed crew of about 10, looking for some fun music to release our pent up craft brew energy. We tried a few bars closer to the Convention Center, with no luck. As we walked by Images Bar we could hear the Top 40’s bumping inside, without hesitation my friend handed the bouncer a $ 10 bill(it is $ 1 cover for each person) and we were in! It wasn’t until we got inside that we realized we were in a gay bar, but it didn’t matter… There were only a few people in the bar at that point, so we mingled with the other patrons, and had the dance floor to ourselves. The DJ continued to bring it for the rest of the night. From what I remember, the drink prices were pretty reasonable. The crowd stayed light all night, so I am not sure how this place stays in business but I am glad they were on Saturday!

We wanted to check out the gay scene in Pittsburgh and since we were staying downtown this seemed like a great place. Positives: doorman was nice and they played good music. Negatives: the lighting, the décor and the smoking. The smoking was really disgusting actually as the smell lingered in our hair and our clothes after we left; I think they should consider opening up a little smoking area, just a thought. As for drinks, we ordered lemon drop martinis and I know, this is so far from being a martini bar, but the bartender did a pretty great job. Glad we went, but we won’t go back.

Hold up, time for an update on the review. Still five stars, yes, but let me expand on it more than my two tiny paragraphs I had prior. Since I was there last they have done a remodel, a great remodel. It doesn’t feel so enclosed now. Amazing what a bright color of paint on the wall and some new flooring can do for the way a place feels inside. Also, big props for finally getting rid of the blinds on the only windows you have in the place(I have a feeling you used them to hide your embarrassment). New floors and paint are not the only thing that was done for this remodel. Remember those scary bathrooms? Yeah, no more. They have nice, CLEAN bathrooms now. The one thing that baffles me is the sink outside the bathrooms. One sink. Between the men’s and women’s bathroom. Air dryer, no towels… weird, but it works. Another great thing was that they moved the pool table to the back. To me, it felt like they were deterring you from entering on some nights. I mean what would you think if you walked into a dim lit bar and saw some guys standing there with pool cues? With the moving of the pool table, it really does open it up at the front, more inviting if you will. Staff are still as nice as can be. Polite and accommodating. $ 1 cover on most nights to walk in the door. Yes there is a $ 10 minimum if you want to use your card. *if you like karaōke, they have an odd little twist on it every first Thursday of the month.

My girlfriend and I were staying downtown for a couple nights and wanted to have a drink close to the hotel. This was the third of three gay bars we went into that night.(we didn’t even have a drink at the second one) And it was by far our favorite. Not a lot of female patroons so if you’re a lady on the prowl, I would probably go somewhere else. But if you just want to relax in a comfortable, friendly atmosphere with some decent music, this is the place! There were two bartenders and we happened to sit on Jeff’s side. I’m sure they were both quite capable but Jeff was amazing at making us feel comfortable and chatted with us quite a bit until it got later and business picked up. Even then, he made sure we were taken care of. He’s pretty much amazing and has great eyebrows. I guess there was some craziness and fighting by the door and outside as the night got later but we never saw it and it didn’t clear out the whole bar. I would expect a downtown bar to have a few problems and it seemed like they were taken care of efficiently. No strikes there. We stuck to beers and the prices were very reasonable considering the downtown location. Apparently happy hour runs until midnight! We were able to both have some drinks on the cheap and listen some good music. Definitely returning whenever we’re there again!
