I had heard a lot about this place so we tried it out for the first time on a Saturday. We made reservations about 2 weeks in advance and they only had a 5:15 and 7:30 at that point so I would def. make reservations if you plan on eating here. Pros: –Really cool interior design– industrial/glamorous feel to it. –The food– the food is Delicious. The combined flavors on everything is just awesome. I had the roasted chicken, my husband at the pot roast, and we split the cheese plate as an appetizer. It was all awesome. The cheese plate came with 2 different cheeses(I believe blue cheese was one of them with a sea salt on it), some delicious walnuts, fig?, and a spread with toast. It really hit the spot! Cons: –Very tight seating. You will be about 1 foot away from other tables on both sides of you and when a waiter is at that other table, their behind will be in your face. Not a big deal but if your someone that is bothered by tight spaces and like your privacy, you will want to skip this place. –Bloody Mary– I was excited to see they had a bloody mary bar but found out it was only for brunch. I decided to order one anyway because I figured it would still be awesome. I mean, they have all the toppings for it still! Wrong– the drink was weak, not spicy, and was served with a lemon wedge and a tiny green olive. No cucumber, pepper ring, nothing. I thought they would at least throw a few things on a toothpick in the drink Overall, I would come back here again for dinner, however I would skip the drinks or maybe try a drink they specialize in on their menu rather than ordering something off the menu.

My boyfriend and I went to brunch a couple Saturday’s ago with a couple of good friends from out of town. None of us had been here for brunch or dinner, we had just heard it was a do not miss. We had been over served the night before :) and were looking for good bloody Mary’s from this amazing bloody Mary bar that I had heard so much about. I am normally a vodka girl but after listening to our waiter go on and on about the sriracha honey infused tequila, I decided to go with his recommendation. When the glass arrived with ice and a hefty amount of tequila, he encouraged me to try it by itself before I head to the bar. What a mistake! Sipping straight tequila after a night out is NOT a good idea! However, once I went to the bar and put their delicious house made tomato mix and about 800 fixings, it was the best bloody Mary I have ever had! I fully recommend the tequila, just not straight. I had reviewed the menu a few days before to get an idea of what they had and what I was interested in. I had seen an appetizer that was grilled bread, goat butter, and house made jams. I’m in. We ordered it first thing to share at the table. The goat butter was amazing, similar to goat cheese in tang, and the jam was apple cinnamon, to die for. The grilled bread was off the charts, however we did not order more for $ 1 due to the fact that I would have eaten it all and had no room for my actual meal. I ordered the huevos rancheros, my boyfriend ordered the short rib hash, our friends ordered the chicken and waffles, and bruschetta. The huevos rancheros was very fresh and delicious. It had an excellent spice that was just at the border of too hot.(My favorite) The short rib hash was a small portion but very filling. He said that he was glad he ordered it, because it was delicious, but he would definitely order something different next time. My friend loved the bruschetta as it was mostly portabello mushrooms and bread. Yum. The chicken and waffles came with a jalapeño cheddar waffle that was not very spicy(which is what the waiter had told her) at all and basically an entire fried chicken(that was amazing!). She at one piece of chicken and half the waffle and was full. I would 100% recommend this to anyone looking for a brunch that is not the same old thing, reservations are a must as well. Our waiter was funny and just attentive enough to not be annoying. The atmosphere was comfortable and warm. We will be back!!!(Maybe for dinner this time.)

Enjoyed brunch here in January. We loved the atmosphere except for the cramped tiny tables. I don’t see how a large person would navigate the seating. I had the chicken and waffles. The chicken was tasty but the leg was still red near the bone. My husband had the huevos rancheros and he wasn’t a fan. I’d love to try it again for dinner or happy hour mainly due to the atmosphere, location and interesting food options.

The food is excellent. It is consistently well prepared amd the menu offers a wide variety. The Bloody Mary bar is the best I have experienced in the area. It is filling — there are so many items to add to the bev. However, I’ve had brunch twice here and both times I was sharply and frequently reminded that the kitchen was closing soon after our reservation time.

This place gets a 5 solely for atmosphere, cocktails and menu. Although what I ordered did not impress, I really enjoyed the whole experience. Flank steak was cold, supposed to be? Sauce overpowered the steak. Would definitely get it on the side. Salty pig was kind of a let down. Atmosphere is 5⁄5

The food is very good. Will visit again when have enough time. Will try the steak that for 2 people, it needs one and half hour to cook, didn’t have enough time last night. The only bad thing is that the table is too close near each other, i wanna sit not between two many people, because thats birthday dinner, but still, they don’t have any available.

Coming in for restaurant week, we found that atmosphere to be pretty casual with some good music in the background and almost a full house. Service was also pretty timely with decent wait times between food servings. From the presentation of the food, you could tell that the chefs really paid attention to how things came together. Taken individually, each item would probably have been a 5-star dish. The confit chicken thigh was nice and tender with a nice side salad mixed in. The mac and cheese was very flavorful and surprisingly filling despite its small size. And who could complain about the pork chop with pork belly, a huge portion of meat that went perfectly with the squash grits, not to mention the roasted apple with foie gras on the side? The only problem in the end was that taken together, we found the meal to be a bit on the heavy side. Something lighter like a soup instead of the mac would have worked well. Or if the mac had been removed and replaced with a dessert at the end. Maybe even a smaller portion of the pork chop/belly, and a different pairing for the foie gras or apple. For the entrée, having both pork belly and foie gras on the same plate definitely became a bit hard to swallow comfortably, particularly after the cheesy mac. But for anyone who was able to enjoy the entire meal, I’d say it was definitely worth the price.

All the hype around this place, it’s all true. Both the experience and the food are in line with each other and it’s all worth the trouble of finding an open table here. Definitely reserve a table in advance. When my husband and I went, we were lucky to find an open table as walk-ins, possibly because it was a weeknight. We ordered the Devils on horseback, Thai curry mussels(with fries) and the pork belly tacos. Omg the flavors here are so incredibly bold, but not overpowering in any way. The reason for my reduction of one star you ask? I got sick afterwards. I can’t exactly pinpoint this meal as the culprit, but I’m almost certain the mussels were it. Despite getting a little sick, I would definitely come back to try something different next time. The food here is just that worth it.

This was my first restaurant visit of the New Year 2016! And if this is any indication of what is to follow I’m in for a treat! Meat & Potatoes… ahh what a refreshing place! First, I was quickly seated on a Friday! That’s amazing in and of itself. The atmosphere is pleasant and since I was seated in a relatively private section of the restaurant it was perfect… The food not only looks amazing it tastes that way too… But I decided to indulge in the«Dub» burger and fries… And I had the«Grilled» bread with jam and goat butter for an appetizer. And as a beverage I tremendously enjoyed the«Nino» cocktail. This is far from my last visit… I highly recommend eating here before a show, a date night, or just a night on the town!

Best brunch in Pittsburgh. My wife and I have been here numerous times and it always is a great meal. The food is delicious and the Bloody Mary bar is my wife’s favorite in the city. We recommend the huevos rancheros and the Bruschetta. We’ll be back!

I’ve wanted to try meat and potatoes for a long time. It’s one of the newer restaurants in Pittsburgh that everyone’s been buzzing about. I tried it out this weekend and I expected to be blown away and I was impressed but not blown away. The seating is tight and the tables are tiny. It’s hard not to hear your neighbors entire conversation. We ordered the brisket Mac and cheese and mussels to start. The brisket was great the Mac and cheese not so much. The mussels were really great! We got them in the Thai curry broth which was very tasty. We also shared the ribeye for 2. It’s huge more like enough for 4. I wasn’t a fan of the bone marrow but I can see how it can be appealing to some.(My dog really loved it!) The steak and potatoes were good.

Holy cow(or pig?)! This place is amazing! The atmosphere is quite hip, the food is astounding, the music selection is perfect, and the seating is probably the most comfortable restaurant seating I have ever experienced. I ordered the wagyu steak as my entrée and our starters were the fried pickles, fried taters, and cheese board. It was legitimately all amazing. There are several parking garages nearby, so parking is a breeze. I will be back! This has definitely become a staple of my trips back to Pittsburgh.

Not a lot of options for vegetarians. I understand it may be obvious given the name of the restaurant, but I always like to have options. We were able to get a table for two here on a busy Saturday night(they are near the theater district) so that was a big plus. They have a back room that has additional seating that we were placed on. Not impressed that they first seated is on the table closest to the door that the waiter would have to pass close by every time and though there were plenty of other free tables we had to ask to be moved. Back room is also smoky from the kitchen. As a vegetarian I had the grilled bread(delicious with yummy butter with sea salt) and the Brussel sprouts(shredded to unrecognizable and very salty). Overall not a very memorable dinner for the price. Will not be returning.

Yikes! That’s one huge hunk of meat!(That’s what she said!) Try the fried Brussels, they are awesome. The Meat & Potatoes for two is more like Meat and Potatoes for four. We’re not petite people, but this was more than we could handle. Still, the bone-in ribeye was cooked perfectly. The marrow was kinda weird. Guess we just weren’t that into it. The two classic cocktails I ordered(Negroni and Manhattan) were well balanced. My one complaint would be the service. The girls at the reception seemed lost and flustered, and one even commented that the software they were using was«dumb»(because she didn’t know how to use it?). The tables are tiny, and they really pack you in there. It’s a small place, so I guess space is at a premium. The waitress seemed almost overwhelmed, like she needed to get to her next task in a hurry, and we were keeping her from someone else more important. Some customer-service focused training on the waitstaff would dramatically improve the overall experience. Like everyone else says, the food is fantastic, but the service is a bit spotty.

The words Brunch and Meat & Potatoes go hand-in-hand. Think you’ll stop in on a Sunday morning and just«grab a seat»? Think again! You better call well in advance for those seats and have a res, and you’ll be glad you did. I’ve only ever been to M&P for brunch, but have been there several times. Each time I’ve ended up getting one of the specials as my meal, and I’ve never been disappointed, but have enjoyed some more than others. The cinnamon bun-fantastic and sticky! The Benedict special-it rotates and you should always get it! Now for the drinks. The coffee is always hot and almost constantly refilled by their staff who are very attentive. Now there is also a magnificent Bloody Mary bar as well. This thing has everything and more that you could ever hope for your Bloody Mary – bacon, shrimp, celery, and… grape leaves! It’s basically a meal in itself. If this place isn’t on your list of places to go, then add it immediately.

Wow. Can we talk about Meat and Potatoes for a second? I went here for the first time last night(finally, I know, stop judging me). I had a mouthgasm. Simple as that. Absolutely love the ambiance of the place — dark colors, dim lighting, jazzy music… it was just what we were looking for. The feel of this place is classy, but not uptight. The service was friendly, expedient, and professional — to the level of a five star restaurant, while still putting out a casual, relaxed vibe. I started off with a «Turn the Beet Around» …yes the song kept popping into my head throughout dinner, and yes I did dance in my chair while sitting. I love anything spicy so it was already looking up. Reposado, lime, orange liqueur, jalapeño, and beet syrup. It was quite an unusual winning combination. Smash together, fruity/spicy/a bit of savory, add tequila — and it just popped. Next was the duck liver pâté. At first the sweetness of the sauternes jelly on top cuts through the more savory flavor of the duck, but it rounds out as you eat it, and has a nice savory finish. Its perfectly paired with a simple grilled bread(to which they gladly brought a refill). Shortly after, came out the wild mushroom risotto. It was definitely good, the mushrooms were tasty, but I’m having trouble remembering details because of what came next… The roasted chicken! It definitely stole the show, and I’m not afraid to say, it’s probably the best thing I’ve eaten this year. Served beside their yukon gold potatoes, adorned with roasted tomatoes, olives, and pine nuts, laid on a saffron butter sauce, and topped with fennel. This dish was clearly crafted by a true culinary artist. Besides the chicken being perfectly cooked and juicy, the way the flavors came together was just something I had never tasted before, and we just kind of sat there in awe/bliss until it was all gone. I couldn’t believe that we had drinks, appetizers, and dinner for two, at this quality for only $ 77. Last week I paid almost $ 200 for worse service and mediocre food at another place downtown. I must get back here asap… I need that brunch in my life. See you soon!

So two years later, I’m back at Meat & Potatoes for brunch on a beautiful sunny Fall Sunday. My friend and I felt lucky to have been able to make a reservation at 12:00pm on a Sunday with such short notice. Somehow — they had a table for two available in the next 15 minutes! Sweet! The best part? When we sat down. Such comfortable seat cushions. We were seated next to the DJ, which for some people would have been less than ideal, but we enjoyed the music and were still able to have a fine conversation without yelling, so I think the volume levels are set just right. The menu features Eggs Benedict, shrimp & grits ettouffee, chicken and waffles and a few other things. Those who don’t prefer eggs for brunch may feel limited in scope for choices(as my friend), but mostly everything on the menu is incredibly delicious(I say with confidence), so how can you go wrong? I ordered the Thanksgiving Benedict, despite already harfing down 3 soft boiled eggs for breakfast earlier that day. I could eat 12 eggs a day. This was eggactly the eggsperience I was looking for(shoot me now please), but in all honesty: the Benedict was INCREDIBLE. Stuffing — delicous cuts of turkey and perfectly poached eggs with house made cranberry sauce. It came together divinely and was the ultimate comfort food. I tried my friend’s shrimp étouffée as well and it creamy, tangy and delightful. For dessert, we shared something only God could whip up in heaven. The problem being is that I was so damn engrossed with eating it, that I sort of forgot what it called on the menu(dessert menu changes practically daily). All I can say is: if there’s a mix of ice cream + a brownie with nuts type of biscotti — go for it! Or really trust your servers recommendations(like we did). So. Divine. The price was super reasonable as well. Definitely recommend M&P for brunch — don’t know about dinner/lunch, but I would imagine they can do no wrong!

Meat and Potatoes was my initiation into Pittsburgh cuisine and literally the first dinner meal I grabbed a few months back. The joint has a gastropub atmosphere with a bar in the center of the room and tables surrounding it. The servers/bartenders are all extremely friendly and have always been very cordial. The cocktails are delicious and well made. The décor is hip and classy which I never thought I would say about a joint. It was a Monday and I pulled up a seat at the bar and was immediately presented with menus for my perusal. I can say that ive been here a few times now since my travel started to Pittsburgh and the combined food that I have ordered has been the Mac and Cheese, parpadelle, fried taters, wagyu strip steak, etc. The mac and cheese is really rich and even the appetizer portion is enough for a meal. If you love gooey cheese with special ingredients like brisket or lobster or foie gras, then this is your dish. There is nothing to hate about it. The parpadelle is another mouth pleaser and out of this world. The meat is perfectly tender and amazing with the sauce and pasta being the perfect compliment. I am personally a bigger fan of the dirty pasta over at butcher and the rye but this dish is a close second. The fried taters is a fancy way of saying French fries and boy do they deliver on it. This dish is a solid sharing plate for a few folks. The wagyu is the only one that I was not 100% a fan of. To me, it seemed like trying to put a fancy«Asian» spin and the sauce was a bit too heavy and overpowered the juiciness of the steak making it seem like it was in the passenger seat. Still solid dish but a slight disappointment amidst the other dishes that I am a big fan of. All in all, a great joint and a spot that I visit frequently. Love the service, the food, and the vibe. Definitely recommending to any folks trying to find a solid spot.

I’ve been to Meat & Potatoes numerous times but this past weekend it was all about that… BRUNCHBRUNCHBRUNCH! Highlights: –Grapeleaves included at the Bloody Mary bar! The hot sauce variety is the best I’ve ever seen. –The Strawberry or Peach Bellini. –Fried taters with truffle aioli. Shut the front door. I wish I could eat this dish every day. The experience: We had a group of 12 so we reserved the side room. To be expected, it’s a bit loud but a must-have if you are attending with a large group. Our service was excellent. The waiter knew each dish, made perfect recommendations and was quick to notice when our beverages got low. The food runners we’re also speedy and professional. We had one small incident with a loose coffee lid and a bit of hot brew landing on the back of my date but it was handled well and certainly didn’t ruin our time there. Food: I ordered the Shrimp & Grits, most of the table ordered the short rib hash(it’s the most popular brunch item) and the rest of the dishes included the Pub burger, Bi Bim Bap, Huevos Ranchero, Eggs in purgatory and Chicken and Waffles. The Chicken and Waffles portion size made everything else seem like an appetizer! I thought that seemed a little inconsistent but that’s not a huge complaint, I needed a to-go box for my meal and it was half the size! No major issues with any of the food. A bit of hot sauce needed for a few of the dishes but that’s more personal preference than a stab at the quality of the food. I found my dish to be very rich, part of the reason I had to take the rest home. The flavor was wonderful, I only mention how rich it is so my fellow Unilocalers are aware. The dining experience at Meat & Potatoes for lunch and dinner has long held a superb reputation and I am happy to report that their brunch experience is no different! You will not be disappointed!

M&P is an extremely popular restaurant on Penn Ave with a small wait with a reservation on a weeknight. There is a comfortable seating lounge in front of the main dining area with a coat rack. Their décor is both classy and hip(business casual to dressy attire yet Top 40 music playing). Tables are placed very close to each other so it’s uncomfortably easy to hear your neighbor’s conversation. We shared the Meat & Potatoes for Two($ 69), which included their famous bone marrow and steak. Our waiter informed us that the wait for that entrée averages around 30 minutes but could be up to an hour on a busy night! We ordered appetizers and drinks while we waited. My friend loved the fried pickles and fried brussels sprouts but I wasn’t a fan of either small plates. Our M&P for 2 finally arrived(thankfully did not take an hour). The 34 oz ribeye steak was HUGE and cooked until it was pink to medium, which is how I like my steak. The bone marrow gratin was very rich, almost like eating liquid butter but with a perfectly spiced crunch. We were so stuffed that we had to box some of the steak and the potatoes. It was more than enough food for two people.
