I had the most unbelievable almond croissant today at Marty’s Market. When I asked where this perfect creation came from, they told me Om Nom. I can’t wait to try more treats from here!

Often overlooked or underrated, there is something understatedly satisfying about a truly good cookie. While everyone else in the ‘burgh seems to be occupying themselves with gourmet cupcakes(Dozen), inventively adorned donuts(Peace, Love, and Little Donuts), or delicate French/German pastries(La Gourmandine, Prantl’s), Om Nom Bake Studio is quietly perfecting the Art of the Cookie. I’ve been making more-or-less weekly visits to get my cookie fix for several months now(only open on weekends), so I am pretty familiar with their goods. Their line-up satisfies both foodie demands as well as those with less complicated palettes. From the creative(cookies flavored with earl grey tea and vanilla-lavender icing, chunky chocolate and bacon, basil pesto, maple bacon oatmeal) to the classic(peanut butter, chocolate chip, oatmeal crème), Om Nom makes me feel guilty that I can no longer tell my mother that her cookies are my all-time favorite. Not to mention that Om Nom’s cookies are miles above similar offerings by other local mainstays(I’m looking at you, Sweet Tammy). Their line-up changes pretty much weekly, and many of them are excellent, but I’d like to focus on one of my favorites, a chocolate crème cookie named the«Nom Bomb.» The cookie’s perfectly chewy(never too dry, never too gooey) exterior has a tangy bittersweet, almost BBQ-like, chocolate taste. Clamping down your teeth to section off a bite, a silky smooth filling spills out over the tongue, washing the corners of your mouth with a creamy sweet chocolate buttercream icing. Also, the cookie is huge and only two dollars. What more could anyone ask for? The unassuming cookie may lack the pomp of a cupcake or the pretension of a French pastry, but Om Nom Bake Studio’s humble offerings can rival the best baked confections I’ve ever had. They are definitely worth a visit to the Public Market on the weekends.
