*The new manager has reached out to me and personally apologized for my lackluster visit and poor food. To me, this is EXACTLY what a good proprieter should be doing and it speaks volumes. I’ve given two additional stars based soley on this outreach. I do plan on returning to Pizza Heaven and giving the food another shot. At that time, I will revisist my review.* 3÷6÷12UPDATE I returned to Pizza Heaven and gave it another shot now that it is under new management. Simply put, WOW!!! The place is IMMACULATE. In the old days, the walls were yellowed with greese. Now, they are clean and white as snow. The place is as clean as it can get. The two employees, Patrick and Rhianan, were unreal nice to my wife and I. They filled me in on the history of the joint and the new owner. What really made me stand up and notice is the mission statement, framed, on the wall. It’s clear that Pizza Heaven is all about making their customers happy with quality, affordable food and amazing service. It makes a big difference over the way things were in the past! Now the food… holy cow… the food. Some of the biggest, freshest wings we’ve ever had. I can’t say enough good about them. The cloudbuster. a 2 foot hoagie. PERFECT. Actually not exactly the way I remember it, but better. I think they’re using more meat and possibly a peppered ham, which makes it incredible. We also had an order of the bacon, cheese fries. these were good, but I wish that they had been blanched, as they weren’t as crispy as we like, but they were still tasty and a nice portion. All in all, the new owner Matt and his staff are on the right track and have turned this Penn Hills staple back to it’s former glory… and maybe then some! — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — – Growing up in the area, Pizza Heaven was a regular weekend staple. Their famous hoagie is the cloudbuster– a 2-foot juggernaught of flavor… In fact, it was so good that when I was in college 2 hours away, I’d drive in for this hoagie and Turners Tea on occasion. When I got married a few years ago, I was living about 30 minutes away from Pizza Heaven, but would still make the trip for cloudbusters. Unfortently, the quality started to dip and we decided it wasn’t worth it any more. Flash forward a year: My wife and I live much closer and decide we need a hoagie for the football game. We decided we’d give Pizza Heaven another shot… The place looked cleaner than we ever remembered and the people were pretty friendly(In the past, you expected a little gruffness) … they explained that Pizza Heaven fell under new ownership about a year ago. we felt a lot better! The gentleman assured us it was the same cloudbuster recipe as before. We got the hoagie home and it wasn’t cooked the whole way. the hoagie bun was stale and awful, there was barely any mayo(though we asked for heavy on the mayo) and there was very little meat… not to mention it was so greasy that it soaked through the wrapped on the ride home, ruining my wife’s jeans. In fact, this hoagie was so bad, I couldn’t finish my piece and we actually threw the rest away… which normally is a cardinal sin in our household! — new ownership and worse food… but hey, it’s clean in the place now, so that counts for something…
