Stumbled upon this place in Polish Hill and fell in love. It’s small but nice. I love the wood on the walls and tin ceiling. Bloody Mary is to die for and they’re an all day Saturday special. The staff is so nice almost unbelievably nice. Patrons are equally as nice. It’s like a little family. Can’t wait to go back.

If you are looking for a local neighborhood bar on Polish Hill with no tourists, then this is it. Good beers on tap — from Iron City to some craft beers. Some food, like homed-made a meatball sandwich, Pittsburgh-style ham BBQ(a specialty), and hot sausage and peppers. Great service. This is what bars are meant to be like — a fun place to hang out, watch a Pirates, Penguins, or Steelers game, and forget about everything else. No pretensions here. Great neighborhood, and literally across the street from a national historical landmark church, hence the name. Clean, safe, and one of the last of its breed.

Great neighborhood spot for inexpensive beers, good selection and fantastically friendly staff. My home away from home and just up the corner, Pope’s has been good to me. Sadly I’m moving soon, so thought I’d give Fran and crew a little shout out.

I came here on a weekend visit to the city and loved it. Brunette Tammy(there are two Tammy’s) was there and was beyond helpful. She recommended drinks to us and introduced us to all kinds of different bourbons which was so cool. She shared her baked pretzels with us and was just an all around cool person to hang out with. The owner showed up as well and talked to us for a while. We stayed way past closing time but they were happy to have us. The owner even gave us a ride back to our hotel! Definitely recommend.

This bar is a gem in Polish Hill! Great drinks for cheap. the food is wonderful and reasonably priced. Well whiskey, diet coke and grenadine for $ 2.50. Tammy the bartender is great and makes a mean drink. It’s like Cheers, where everyone knows your name.

I like Pope’s… But sooooooo wish it was a smoke free establishment given that everywhere else in the neighborhood allows smoking. Nice bartenders, great prices, the accept debit cards/credit cards unlike when it was Sarney’s, and it’s close to home… So it’s even better. The space is really nice, and there’s really not a bad seat in the house if you are watching a game. I just have a very hard time with the smoke so hence the 3 stars.

Good little neighborhood bar. Cheap drinks and a clean place. It’s a good stop for a drink if you’re in the area, but I wouldn’t go completely out of my way to go there.

Great neighborhood bar! Although I wish there was a non-smoking bar in Polish Hill, at least Pope’s has a pretty serious air filtration system in the ceiling, so it’s not as bad as some of the others. It’s nice to have the option of a cleaner bar for my friends who don’t appreciate the grunge scene as much. If my parents were in town, this would definitely be the neighborhood bar I’d take them to! They have a good selection of craft beers on tap and even have a few sandwich options. The owner is often there bartending and he is very friendly! I’m glad Pope’s is in the neighborhood!

Great local bar. This place might become our go-to for game nights. Comfortable stools, nice vibe with wood floors and a copper ceiling. Not too loud, you can hear the game but you can talk, too. I’ve been here on a Thursday night and a Tuesday evening and it’s been the same vibe both times. There is a jukebox — touchtunes– though, so they may have other nights with a different flavor. I don’t know why you would list this place as a $$$, I’ll add some of the posted specials here: $ 2IC12oz bottles During Pirate Games $ 216oz draft Miller Lite during Pens Games Happy Hour 5 – 7, $ 1 off everything $ 4 Chicken burrito w/guacamole and chips $ 2.50 Jumbo soft pretzel These are the specials I can see from my seat. I think they have flatbread, too. This place would be practically perfect, except, as I just found out, it’s a smoking establishment.
