Got a mini growler of the black tea nettle, sampled some others, and enjoyed the people/conversation! Definitely a good Pittsburgh stop for sure! Naomi is the stuff!

We had the friendliest server, who gave us the opportunity to taste lots of different flavors. I think of Kombucha as an acquired taste, but there are plenty of different brews to choose from and you can learn a lot at Red Star. It’s conveniently located in the Pittsburgh Public Market, so I can easily stop by when I am on a shopping trip.

I am so glad for the happenstance that led us to the Pittsburgh Public Market on our visit there this past weekend! What a great venue for burgeoning food-makers and Red Star Kombucha is a bright beacon on the mix! On our visit there were fully 8 homemade kombucha flavors on tap and we were welcomed to relax around the bar where were ordered two tasting flights — allowing us to sample six of the available flavors. The hibiscus-ginger and cranberry hop varieties were stand-outs to me, but they were all fantastic! Every variety was bright, crisp, and clean — a real delight to drink. The proprietress was on hand and, in her relaxed manner, was happy to share her passion for and knowledge of kombucha brewing with us as we imbibed. Sitting and sipping at Red Star was one of the most pleasant stops of our day and I would urge anyone who is in the area to pop in and enjoy!

Amazing«bloody Kim»! Great service from the woman working! Taught us all about the products. Best place we’ve stopped in Pittsburgh.

Yay kombucha! This place is great! It is the only kombucha brewery in Pittsburgh. For those who do not know much about kombucha, there are a few things to be aware of. Kombucha is fermented tea. The kombucha you buy in a bottle is not real kombucha because it does not contain alcohol. This stuff is the real deal! Kombucha is not something you can get drunk off of. There is up to about 2% alcohol in it generally. At Red Star, they offer three staple buchas and a variety of special brews. The Zinger is really tasty and good for anyone who is not familiar with the drink. I also really liked the toasted Oat. They also make kimchi(both vegan and fish) along with relishes. While I was there, I was lucky enough to have a «bloody buch,» which is the beet/fish juice from the kimchi and kombucha… really good! It is like a probiotic-injected bloody mary. Doesn’t sound so good? Give it a try!

It’s a cute bar in the corner of public market with a cool bartender. I personally am not a fan of this type of beer, but the Zingerbuch might be my favorite. Sampling 4 of the beers is only $ 1, which is awesome. Also I could recommend this place to my friends with gluten allergies since all their beers are gluten free.
