Shadyside Inn All Suites Hotel

The apartment was spacious and clean. Unfortunately, the noise around the inn made it an obnoxious place to stay. The washers ran all the time. At about one am the apartment above us came alive with slamming doors, stomping feet and loud conversation. Thus went on until 4 am three nights in a row. I would advise people to ask what is above and below them before booking here. We will not be back!!!

I just came back from a lovely 3 day stay here and after reading some of the reviews, was quite surprised!
First, the staff was AMAZING. They were so so sweet and as noted in some of the reviews, provide a goody bag on arrival. When checking out, they gave us an extended time and also stored our bags for us while we walked around the area (great location). When coming to pick up our bags and head off to the airport, they let us use one of their rooms to freshen up (there is an entire bedroom/​bathroom area that they allow for guests to use in times like this), which I thought was amazing.
We stayed in a studio suite and although it wasn’t the newest, it was clean and spacious. Unlike some of the other reviews, we weren’t bothered with any noises and we did have an elevator in our building.
We would 100% go back and stay here. Great price for what you get!

With the rising prices of hotel chains in Pittsburgh it was nice to be able to find a place like Shadyside Inn. The Inn is an old Apartment building converted into hotel suites. It still has all of the qualities of apartment living, such as a fully stocked kitchen, living/​dining rooms, and bedrooms with a hotel vibe like guest services and housekeeping. It’s located on 5^th Ave right by the college with shopping on Walnut St. just two blocks away, and a ten minute drive to downtown. Great safe location!
Upon your arrival they greet you with a goody bag full of candies, muffins from Paddy Cakes in Bloomfield, rice Krispy treats, juice, and crackers! What a nice touch! We arrived two hours before check in and they were kind enough to get us in early. The girls at the front desk were very nice and helpful. They even checked on us after we got settled in to see how we liked the room.
Our suite was nice and roomy. It could’ve used a little more loving when it came to the cleaning and remodeling but still much better than staying in a cramped hotel room with three other people. You get one parking pass per room. You can normally buy another pass but they were sold out due to the Notre Dame Pitt game. There’s a parking garage about five minutes away off of Walnut St. that we parked the other car for the weekend at $ 11 per day. There’s a complimentary shuttle that will drive you anywhere in a 3 mile radius. It runs until 10:00pm I believe.
Overall a wonderful experience and would stay again. Can’t beat the price or the location!

The apartments are very nice BUT listening to the washing machines from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. was «over the top». The staff is friendly enough, but the hotel does not accept cash which is probably the most obnoxious practice I have encountered in years. The buildings are not APA compliant and our son in law had to haul a baby stroller up two flights of stairs for five days. No one bothered to even ask if they would prefer a building with an elevator.
I am truly sorry that we selected this facilty when others in our party (we were there for a wedding) raved about another Inn down the road and of course Mariott would have been a much better choice (and given us points).

Fantastic find! I stayed for 8 nights at one of their Signature Suites apartments. Great first floor flat with well-​equipped kitchen, bath, bedroom and living room. Comfortable bed. Easy, safe parking right down the street. Clean and modern. When I went to the front desk to ask to adjust the air conditioning because the building was too cold, they came right away and even offered me extra blankets until it warmed up. Really professional and friendly staff. It was great to have private apartment living at reasonable hotel prices, and just two blocks to Walnut street restaurants and shops!

Nothing but great things to say about this place. We came for a convention and instead of paying for two rooms we got a place here. It’s like having your own apartment, but with benefits. The décor is simple but with an amazing touch. It is super clean. Front desk staff have been more than helpful. They’ve given me information on the free laundry machines they have, free computer and printer use, free parking and even helped me ship a box on my behalf. I honestly wish I could just live here, but alas I must go back to California. Oh and great restaurants only a few blocks away, great for a nice walk. Stay here if you’re visiting Pittsburgh.

This place was great. Exceptional staff treated us wonderful and made us feel very welcome. Everything was updated and the environment was so cool. Very modern/​industrial yet the artwork harked back to a classic era.

This hotel has a great location in the middle of Shadyside. It’s a converted apartment building so each room has a kitchenette and a living/​dining room. I have stayed here twice now, each time in a two bedroom unit. The units are clean, and the furnishings new, however the buildings themselves are a bit dated, the kitchen area and bathrooms look like they are from the 80s and could use an update but they are clean and functional. The staff was friendly at check in, and there is free wifi and free off street parking. I would recommend this as a good place to stay for a few nights, it would also be a good option as an extended stay kind of place if you are between homes.

location but for one person it is too much.

Magnificent. I cannot rave enough about this hotel. The staff was beyond helpful, the suite was gorgeous and charming, the location was perfect, the amenities far exceeded expectation and the price was right. When we arrived we were checked in by a lovely receptionist who gave us a complimentary bag of muffins, juice, chocolate, etc. She gave us directions to the building (we stayed in suite 1 in the Howe St. building) and took the time to recommend bars and restaurants and even marked them down on a map for us. The Howe St. building is a beautiful historic building and suite 1 is the entire downstairs with full kitchen, 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, living room, dining area, washer/​dryer, front porch and back deck. The ceilings are 15 feet and all the moldings and trim are original. Hardwood floors, classic-​modern décor, flat screens in every room and giant windows. When we had trouble finding our private parking spot (yep!), I called the main desk and they offered to let us park at the main hotel and drive us over to Howe St. I would go back to Pittsburgh just to stay in that suite again. A+++

Wow, I am so impressed with this place! I was coming into town to see family for the holidays, and decided last minute to book a hotel instead of crashing in a guest room.
The day of they had few rooms available, but all of them perfectly suited our needs. We ended up in a room with a queen size bed, which was fine for my fiancé and I.
I had no idea these were remodeled apartments until we arrived. I loved the kitchen! A full sized coffee machine (with free coffee, creamer, and sugar) brewed more than enough, and I loved the full size fridge for our leftovers and wine. Yes, the walls are a little thin, but I didn’t hear anything between 10 PM and 9 AM, and that’s what matters, right? Also, the bathroom was pretty small, with the shower being a bit small for both of us, but we are both over 6’0″. Hey, we’re giants! We can’t expect universal accomodation.
Honestly, I was so impressed and pleased. The apartments were immaculate, the service excellent, and there was free parking in a part of town where that’s hard to find. We’ll be staying here from now on!

This place is awesome. Immaculately clean, lots of natural light in every room of the enormous suites, modern décor, great location, and amazing customer service. You really feel like you are at home. Such a wonderful experience. I will definitely be a returning guest.

We loved our stay there and the Experience of staying at your suites. It was homey comfortable and the staff was awesome. I only wish the housekeeping service would not arrive at 8:30 in the morning, but I understand they have a job to do. Thank you for your hospitality. It was lovely.

I created a Unilocal account just so I could share how horrible my experience was.
The location is great and the room is spacious. The pros end there.
The room was absolutely filthy. And I don’t mean that housekeeping forgot to tidy up, I mean that as I walked through the room the bottoms of my socks became black. There’s no elevator and no apparent bellman so hopefully if you brought suitcases your room is on the first floor! Parking is also extremely limited, and if you find an empty space it may take you about ten minutes to navigate the tight parking lot.
All of this would be fine, however, if the staff weren’t so incompetent and — worse — rude. The hotel manager straight-​up ignored our requests and apparently instructed the other staff members to do the same. Never an apology or any form of curtesy at all. I’ve never been so horribly treated in my life.
Absolutely inhospitable, a truly bizarre experience. DO NOT STAY HERE. If you must say in Shadyside, Courtyard Pittsburgh Shadyside or Sunnyledge Boutique Hotel would make way better options.

What a wonderful place to stay! I felt for the entire time we were in Pittsburgh I could live like a local. Small apartments turned into hotel rooms!?! Brilliant!!! And less expensive too? I love it!!! Anytime we come back this will be our go to place.
Only two complaints. 1.) If you’re unlucky like us and had a flight delay, you might end up checking in around 3 am. Which is there dead zone for coding their keys… it’s so frustrating!!! We were dead tired and it took way too long to get the keys made. Poor guy working the front desk. He was really apologetic. But when you been on a plane for 5 ½ hours all you want to do is fall asleep in a nice comfy bed! 2.) Sleeping in one of their beds is super comfy!!! However it’s a tight fit around the corner if you happen to be the one sleeping between the wall and dresser area. Everytime I got out of bed my poor thighs took a hit to the bed rail that has a wood frame with sharp angles. I suffered getting some pretty bad bruises. I wish they’d just take the bottom frame off if possible. Don’t know how many others had the same issue but I thought it would be worth a try to ask.
Other than those two things, I loved staying here!!! Full fridge, stove, plates, pans, silverware, dining room table, living room with cable TV. I almost didn’t want to leave my room for the day!!! Really nice spaces!!!

Shadyside Inn exceeded my expectations in most ways. I received a free upgrade to a very large two bedroom balcony suite upon check-​in. The room was clean (although I’m not sure I would have cooked in the kitchen without rewashing the dishes) and came with a living room, dining room, adjustable thermostat, etc. You also receive a cute welcome gift when you arrive (mostly junk food). Just be warned that these are converted apartments and not upscale, marble shower hotel rooms.
On the downside, the walls/​floors seemed pretty thin. I could hear when my upstairs «neighbor» flushed the toilet in the night. And I personally prefer when the hotel concierge is able to call a car service for you (there’s only a local hotel shuttle).
Note: «Shadyside» sounds sketchy but is actually quite cute and felt safe. It was like the Park Slope of Pittsburgh. There’s a street of shops within walking distance and some restaurants with good happy hours.

Oh Shadyside Inn and suites I wanted to love you I really did, but the longer my stay got the more I just couldn’t so its with a little regret that I write this review.
Pro’s: good space for the price, and free parking. Seems like an oversight but when hunting for a middle priced hotel in pittsburgh, you would have thought by price range of the larger chains pittsburgh suddenly morphed into Paris. Major chain hotels near downtown are ridiculouly priced and mostly all cheaper hotels are out the way for dirving purposes. Also most hotels offer no free parking, Shadyside suites did.

Fairly clean, and renovated, cheap renovations but acceptable for the price of the hotel.
No issues with service or housekeeping.
Nice large space in room for the price, cable tv, and fully stocked kitchen.
Great Location close to downtown, oakland and the east end.
Cons:
Noisy, they cannot help this but the cars whizzing by on fifth ave will not allow you to sleep well in the living room. I mean you cannot even watch television there in the middle of the day well due to car noise either. The bedroom however seemed to dull car noise a little better.
Parking lot is a bit cramped can be hard to get in and out of depending on how others park.
Hot water, not much of it low water pressure as well.
Ok now the deal breaker the mattress: Ours was a Serta 99Z i checked because i felt along the ouside and I could feel the springs nearly poking out the side of it. Because after hurting out backs I suspected the thing had not been manufactored in this decade or possibly last decade and I was right.
Have you heard of a Serta 99z? no me either so I dubbed it the 0 z and moved on, they had placed a memory foam pillow on top of it, which didn’t help matters and when we complained it was too soft. We were told oh if you take the memory foam thing off that makes it less soft, and we could have asked for that. Sorry genius at the dront desk but that wont help matters.
I understand hotels cannot always know your preferance of mattress firmness but they can provide sleep number mattresses, or newer mattresses. I thought at first maybe this hotel had not been in business that long, that was why they were you using a 25 yr old mattress. Then I saw the Unilocal reviews and see that they have been there a few years.

If you are like me, you are probably dumbfounded by all the high hotel prices and extra fees in Pittsburgh. After all, this is Pittsburgh and not NYC or DC.
In terms of value, Shadyside Inn Suites hits the spot. This place would be great for families needing housing for graduation weekend because of the spaciousness and convenience. You can tell that the staff cares about your stay. You get a breakfast goodie bag, a check up call and the like. But why the 3 stars?
I stayed at the unit on Negley and the building is faulty by design. The walls were thin that I could hear people walking around and talking. The furniture and TV was outdated (the TV turned on by itself at night).
The staff is 4 star, but the suite was a glorified college dorm suite.

When I was searching for hotels in Pittsburgh, I was dumbfounded at the high prices and extra fees ($ 20 for parking? in Pittsburgh??). I knew we wanted to stay in a «real» neighborhood, and most of the new hotels are plopped down among concrete structures and shopping malls… and they’re $$$! The Shadyside Inn is a few blocks from Walnut Street, a quaint, upscale block with shopping and restaurants. I wasn’t necessarily looking for an all-​suites hotel but the added benefits of a full kitchen and free laundry services definitely didn’t hurt. And as a bonus, free parking. Sold.
We called to make sure our room wasn’t on the ground floor, and we were assured it wasn’t. But when we arrived, all the windows faced the parking lot at the back of the building. We were also a little disappointed at the finishes… it all seemed cheaply renovated and kind of unfinished (the hallways were totally torn up and the apartment didn’t quite seem done). We called to try to get another room and were upgraded to a 2-​bedroom in the main building. It definitely wasn’t super high-​end, but this unit seemed at least finished. The hallways and apartment were simple and clean, and we really appreciated some of the antique touches, like the exhaust fans in the kitchen and bathroom.
From here on out, everything was great. We loved staying in Shadyside, and having space to spread out. Considering all the other hotels I looked at, this has to be one of the best values in pgh.
Overall, it was a 3 star experience, but I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt that they’re still under construction and they’ll work out some of the kinks. So when you book, try to get a room in one of the four main buildings… at least for the next few months.
