I think my impression of Sognatore started even before I walked in the door. When I first called the salon to make an appointment, the woman bent over backwards to get my schedule to fit me in anywhere possible. We scheduled for the following week, but then immediately called back to schedule me for the following day. The only negative thing I have to say about this place is that the parking lot is SUPER confusing. I went up the wrong side of the road, then went down to the lease only parking, then had to back up and finally park. That being said, it won’t detract from my opinion. I’ve been going to various salons in the Pittsburgh area, and have never found one that I’ve fallen in love with until now. Laurie did WONDERS on my hair! I told her my concerns and even went in to cut in bangs in my hair, for the first time since I was a child… She knocked it out of the park! I recommend this salon to anyone, they really take care of you here!

I have been going to Jennie at Sognatore for years now and boy has she transformed my hair from blah brown to a beautiful blonde with amazing highlights! Every time I go I am so pleased with the results not to mention the great conversation! Everyone who works there like Zoey at the front desk(sweetheart) & the owner Bill are so likeable! Can’t forget Jackie either! ;) I can’t wait to check out their new place in Shadyside as soon as it opens!

I’ve been going to Jennie @ Sognatore for years now. She has given me short cuts, long cuts, ombré, highlights. you name it we tried it. Each and every time I left her chair feeling fabulous. In addition to Jennies talent she is personable and always professional. The salon is beautiful as is all the people that work there. I highly recommend Sognatore and Jennie !!

Great experience. I have been going to Krista Jee now for a little bit over a year. She is a great stylist. I actually followed her from her previous salon because she did such a great job, and it is hard to find someone who does great hair period, who is also nice! The atmosphere is relaxed there, but is also professional. Also, the view is great. I have asked Krista to do my hair and makeup for my wedding because I am completely confident it will be amazing(she’s that good!) If I could afford to have her do my hair everyday, I would :-)

I am a client of Krista Jee from a previous salon. The drive downtown and finding the salon was a bit tricky, however well worth it. When I entered the salon, I was amazed! The architecture, space, fixtures, and layout were all updated. I felt like I was in a high end salon in New York City where I attend the Fashion Institute of Technology. The quality of the cut and style was always the best. When I discovered the salon even offered a secret spa upstairs I was beyond surprised and excited. I will most defiantly be recommending this new discovery for my friends that live and go to school downtown.

Lauri Rocks — A Vidal Sasson Grad/Harvard of Hair = Amazing! I’ve been going for 6 years! Specifically to Lauri, a Duquesne Grad who pursued her passion for hair styling and studied in NYC at the Vidal Sasson Academy AKA the Harvard of Hair! She does amazing modern and stylish cuts that always make me look on point for my busy social calendar! I had her do my hair for my wedding and she’s even done my sister-in-law’s wedding party too. Lauri listens to what you want but is also very knowledgeable about how hair behaves, what you need to achieve the style you are looking for. I’ve gotten my makeup and brows done there and loved it! I’ve also had a manicure there which was middle of the road. Bottom Line: go to Lauri for great color and a cut! Her work is worth every penny!

Absolutely outstanding experience! I went to nearly every salon in the downtown area searching for a stylist that would color my hair red. Every stylist would inevitably refuse to do it because red was«too unpredictable.» Dejected, I was debating on going back to my last salon where I had less than a positive experience or trying this place based on a male friend’s recommendation. I was hesitant, knowing that men and women’s hair were different. I wanted much more than a $ 26 trim and the relationship a woman has with her stylist is quite personal. Jennie got me in her chair and told me she’d not only color my hair red but was really excited about doing it! She needed minimal direction and gave me the edgy cut I wanted in record time(I was in and out in less than 2hrs). She was upbeat, perky and really a great person to be around. My hair looks fantastic and I started getting compliments from other women getting their hair done before I even left the salon. At $ 145, it was the most I’ve ever spent for a cut and color(pretip) and I’ve been getting it colored professionally for a while. But honestly, for the entire experience, it was well worth it. Jennie knows what she’s doing with color, products, a straight razor and shows a great knowledge of current styles. If you’re looking for a new salon, I would absolutely recommend this location. The staff was very friendly and chatty and offered tea, water, wine or coffee. Nothing but positive experiences to be had here! Oh and a GREAT perk: you can book your appointment online anytime. I work nights right now and 2am was the only spare time I had to book. It was so easy! While I believe they take walk ins, I would definitely recommend booking a consultation first since its so easy to do it from their website.

Meh. I’m a guy, I’ve got a short haircut. Nothing fancy — short on the sides and back, an inch on top. Pretty easy in MY opinion. The stylist«didn’t do» clipper cuts, even though that’s what I requested for the sides — it’s really the only way to get the sides short. Instead she went with scissors and a comb. Took 3x longer, and the result was a mess… a big strip of hair down the back that was probably twice the length of the sides. The top wasn’t even and was kind of a mess. I won’t be back.

I was staying at the Pennsylvanian in Pittsburgh for a business trip, so it pleased me that there was a place for me to get a haircut in the same building. Jeanie did a great job on my hair. She offered me a robe, so that my hair would not devour my clothes. My stylist took time to cut my hair the way I wanted it and I could not be happier with the end result. The view from my chair outlooking the window was a sight to behold. The cleanliness of a salon is high on my list of priorities and Sognatore passed that test. The price for a men’s haircut is $ 26, so it is rather steep for some. Sognatore is closed Sunday & Monday. I would also recommend making a reservation.

The view at Sognatore is beatiful from the 10th(or so) story of the Pennsylvanian. I went for my trial run for my wedding do a month before the big day armed with a picture of how I wanted my hair based on a test run done by my salon in the city where I live(not Pittsburgh). The guy did not listen to me at all and created some over-the-top Pittsburgh do with tons of hairspray. I got him to agree that on the wedding day, he would use way less spray and make the bun looser and lower to be more natural. I paid my $ 85 + ~$ 35 for«test makeup» and then I booked hair and make-up for 5 other people on the day of the wedding. Thankfully, I also had mom take a picture of the hairdo. On the day of the wedding, I sat down in the chair and about 45 mins later was shown a strange version of a plastered Jackie-O french twist or something… it was nothing like the test run style and nothing like what I had requested. I was shooed away to get my make up done and while that was happening, I was told that if I wanted my hair fixed the way I wanted it, I would have to pay another $ 85 for another appointment! I was spending about $ 1,000 that day at the salon and I was the bride, and I had already spent $ 85 for a trial run that was apparently worthless. It was one of the worst customer service experiences I’ve ever had and it was happening right before I was getting married. The guy eventually tried to fix it but my hair was already plastered with too much hairspray and he was acting like I was being completely irrational just because I didn’t like his artistic vision. I showed him the pictures of what he did before and what my other salon had done and crabbily pulled my hair back in a hair band and stuck some pins in it. I will add that the makeup girl was great, very nice and did a great job. But the stylists/management did make any effort to be nice to me and it was way too much money for what I got. I’d try somewhere else if I ever needed a do in the ‘burgh.
