Neat place! Awesome concept! I’m more of a wine drinker rather than a beer drinker so finding a wine bar is a huge win for me. After an early dinner at Pusadee’s Garden across the street, the hubby and I stopped in for a drink. The atmosphere is what you’d expect from a joint in Lawrenceville: eclectic, yet hip. Most of the menu is wine but they also have a decent selection of beers and spirits. During our visit, they were featuring wines from Portugal and you could get two half pours for $ 8, which I opted to do. The hubby got a cocktail: the Jaguar. I’m no wine connoisseur so I haven’t much to say about my wines aside from they were good! The Jaguar was sour from the lime with earthy undertones and it was hella strong. One of those was enough to get him a little tipsy and he is not a lightweight. The really neat thing about the Allegheny Wine Mixer that I unfortunately did not get to try was the selection of cheeses, meats and little snacks. Definitely a thing to keep in mind when coming here: come with a small appetite to try out their finger foods!

I absolutely LOVE this place. It is my go-to«night out» bar. It’s fun to start out here early and then go somewhere for dinner. There is only one selection of each wine, but they are all oh so good. The small plates are to die for. Pricey… but it’s a wine bar! That’s expected. It is extremely laid back and fits in with the«hipster» atmosphere that Lawrenceville touts. Some of the art in there is hilarious. It is never too loud. Extremelyyy small and very intimate. It is sometimes difficult to find a place to sit. Definitely not a place to go with more than a few friends. We had 5 in our party and were very lucky to be able to pull a couple of high tops together to make seating. Otherwise, I had gone with one other person every other time and it worked out fine. Great for date night! ;)

Came in later on a Saturday evening and was really impressed with the staff, atmosphere, wine and cheese plate we ordered. We had came in around 10 – 11 and the waitress was nice enough to let us try«side by sides» of wines since they weren’t offering full flights at the time, great way to try two different wines and super nice of the waitress to go out of her way to accommodate us! Will definitely be back for date nights, girls nights, etc. the wines, cheese and service do not disappoint!

I’ve been wanting to check out this location for a few weeks now. I loved the pictures that they had on the walls, similar to the one’s in the movie«Big Eyes». The bartender was very kind and let me sample several wines. I got the veggie plate and it was delicious. Overall it was a decent place to grab a drink and a snack.(I’d give this a 3.5 star but that wasn’t an option)

Allegheny wine mixer has proved great for a nice, relaxed place to grab a good cocktail and a grilled cheese. The location is perfect, being right down from Full Pint and minutes from my house! the bartenders are friendly and the décor is cool without being obnoxious. The«toasties» are so good and cheesy! I had the prosciutto and Gruyère and it was amazing!!! So gooey and the perfect size! I want to have a buffet of all the toasties but I would be the only person allowed to eat any. Anyone can watch though. When someone comes into town(especially former Yinzers) I love taking them to AWM and doing a little bar tour on that side of Lawrenceville! The Allegheny Wine Mixer has become a go-to place for me to unwind.

Honestly nothing special here. We were doing a Butler Street tour and this was on our list based on the Unilocal reviews that we had read. Completely overrated. The Giggle Water drink that people rave about was absolutely disgusting. We couldn’t even finish ours. We won’t be back here.

I regret that it took me so long to come here. I had been hearing about AWM for quite a while, but only made my first trip about a week ago. And I’ve already been back a second time since then! I love the atmosphere – it’s nice without being pretentious. I have found the bartenders to be really friendly and helpful. There is just something really likeable about this place. On my first trip I had a Corpse Reviver #2. I found their version to be a little sweeter than normal, but it was still enjoyable. The second time I chose a saison from the draft list and one of the«toasties»(essentially grilled cheese). I chose the prosciutto, gruyère, and fig jam on pullman bread. They serve the sandwiches in quarters, so I recommend ordering something different than those in your party and then swapping/sharing. It was deliciously melty and packed with flavor, only enhanced by the mustard and mayo(?) served on the side. I can already tell that AWM will be a regular stop for me!

Allegheny Wine Mixer serves only things of fine quality but minus the pretention. They have a wide variety of wine and wine cocktails, and small bites including delicious, locally sourced cheeses. A+ for background music and overall ambiance, with plenty to look at on the walls.

One of the most unpretentious wine bars in Pittsburgh. Wandered in around 9pm on a Friday and had no problem getting a hightop. Place was filled without feeling crowded – perfect to set the mood of being«out» without feeling crammed into a space. Waitress was chill and helpful and food was delish. Ordered two small plates. One was beemster goat cheese(amazing) and the other was sweet, delicious Nutella and fresh raspberries on a baguette. So good and we couldn’t believe it was only $ 4! Presentation was great, too– nuts and fruit supplemented the cheese plate. Glasses of wine are $ 5 after 10pm so for 20 bucks you could get two glasses of wine and a delicious dessert – perfect endung to an evening out. Can’t wait to go back, AWM!

The employees here are wonderful: incredibly knowledgeable, personable and welcoming. I was there on a Friday evening and it was very cramped around the bar, but it wasn’t uncomfortable. There is just limited seating and I wouldn’t recommend a group visit. Great date night spot or maybe a small girls night out. Calm, pleasant crowd. We had a small cheese plate and it complimented our wines very well for around $ 10. We also tried a few of the $ 5 mystery wines and that added a little fun to an already great time. I would like to return when they have live music, I hear that it’s delightful.

Fun local bar with an upscale feel and great drinks and appetizers. The atmosphere is very welcoming and relaxed, while still being classy and youthful. The place can be a little pricey, so expect to drop at least $ 50 for a drink or two. I once ran up a +$ 200 tab with some friends after splitting a couple appetizers and an evening of drinks. It’s not as expensive as Tender but it’s no Hambone’s either. Regardless, it is hard not to fall in love with the AWM!

AWM is delightful, classy and is a upscale cocktail bar, on the likes of Acacia in South Side. After a hearty meal at Pusadee’s(just right across AWM) my friends and I decided to get some cocktails and boy, we weren’t disappointed. The service was extremely warm, friendly and useful. None of us ever had a wine cocktails before so we weren’t sure what to expect but we got them anyways. I got the«Lisa’s Weekend @ The Waldorf» which had white rum, lime, strawberry liqueur, curaçao, sparkling rosé. It was quite strong, but sweet, very well made and refined. My boyfriend got the«Banker’s Punch» which he quite liked and ordered another one. There are tons of nice looking wines on the menu and we definitely want to come back some day to try them out!

It was the first time I had ventured that far up in Lawrenceville. Met a friend around 5 pm when the venue opens for a drink to catch up. The venue is small and it was quiet since it was still early. I thought it was cool that they had«wine cocktails.» I got the giggle water after hearing good things about it from my fellow Unilocalers. It was very yummy, but I thought a bit small for the price($ 9). The presentation of the cocktail was nice though. My friend got the try two rose wines, which she liked. As a snack we got olives, which I surprisingly liked(I usually don’t like olives). They were more salty and less pungent. We also got the«Sleeper Plate» which had delicious pumpernickel bread. The menu says«boozy apricots» but they weren’t that boozy to my palate. The serving was a bit small for the price. All in all, this is definitely a cool place. Although I am making remarks about the price to serving ratio, I do acknowledge that this is pretty standard for places here. I do think there are happy hours in the city that afford better deals(especially for students, like me!)

The Allegheny Wine Mixer was a true delight. A Thursday night makes it that much more special. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. The drink cocktails were amazing and the staff helps you choose just the right selection of wine. What’s nice is that you can even split a glass to get a couple of different tastes. I’ve never heard of a wine cocktail. Finally! A little something different! My first drink was the giggle water which appears to be very popular, and I can see why: it’s the perfect transitional drink for summer to fall. It’s really light and refreshing but the spicy infusion is what really makes it something different. Next I followed up with something I think was called the sweet pea… a fruity drink, so definitely my go to, but I think it had champagne in it so it was like a mimosa with a twist! The garnishes also make these drinks look like small pieces of art. What I would say is that I wouldn’t go starving. They have snack type of food. So I got the goat cheese and some smoked salmon. Very delicious, but if you come with an empty stomach it can also be very costly. Lastly we got the brownie dessert. It was amazing! All of there snacks are baked in house and that’s a difference you can really taste.

We came here one Saturday night. To our surprise, the place is really small. We had about five people and couldn’t find a place to sit so we were standing the whole night on a tiny table. This is the only reason why I’m giving this place a four star, otherwise it would have been five. However, the food and wine selection was amazing! We ordered a couple of cheese platters and some type of sandwich. We really enjoyed the cheese and the wine. The dishes were small but fairly priced. The atmosphere was really nice and the staff were very friendly.

AWM is a Laid back meets artsy meets contemporary upscale type wine/cocktail bar. They also offer a small plates menu. I’ve been here a few times and have enjoyed the charcuterie, a few wine samplings and a beer. The atmosphere is kinda cool but also kinda strange, leading to somewhat of an identity crisis. The place is trying to be hip yet classic. As far as the drinks go they have an excellent selection of wine including several different predetermined flights. I really enjoyed some of the South American reds. Also they have about 6 beers on tap, all craft and mostly local. I have yet to try any of their cocktails but they have a nice list. The charcuterie was pretty good, though the price to quantity ratio was average at best. They have guest food from time to time and I’ve had good experiences going to those events.

This bar is one of the reasons that you come to Lawrenceville. Tucked away all the way down on 53rd and Butler it is optimal for an after or predinner glass of wine, a date, hanging out with a group of your closer winos or just a place as a wine novice to go and try something new. The space is narrow with a primary wine bar, plenty of seating along the sides but intimate in nature. On popping nights, it can be a little bit loud so it shakes off the vibe of being snobby. The walls are ordained with local art, something that is fantastic for the Lville vibe, offsetting the old traditional Pittsburgh building of remodeled brick. Instant love. The wine menu is sectioned off according to types as would be expected with a prime focus on a specific country on the first page. I was thrilled to find it to be Chile so the Carmenere was the obvious winner of the evening. The portions are fair and the pricepoint varies around the 8 – 15 dollar range. The wine tenders will aid you through the process as a novice asking your preferences and giving you samples along the way. Make sure to ask recommendations if you are planning to have one of their lavish charcuterie plates they are just phenomenal pieces of art on a plate. Olives are a must with this bar, the go-to-snack food for the young and hip. Now despite it far away destination this place will get quite packed on friday-saturday so if you would like to have this as your destination on one of those days, I recommend coming earlier as a precursor to having dinner at Pussadees across the street [beyond fantastic thai food] and perhaps even take a bottle with you from one establishment to the next, as it is BYOB. Charming, sophisticated and always refilling your water glass so you get home safe. Come often

I like this place! Cozy, yet not crowded on a Friday night. We found a seat as soon as we walked in the door. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but was pleased to find a menu full of options outside of wine. I particularly liked the wine cocktails. We hadn’t had dinner so, we sampled a few of the menu items. We paired together a sharp cheese with prosciutto and one of the cheese toasties. The meat and cheese plates come with additional accouterments like, pickles, mustard, apple, fig spread, etc. The toastie was a port salut with pickles on pumpernickel. Delicious! My friend and I were still stalking about it today and how we are excited to go back!

This is my go-to bar. I’m not sure how or why it became that, but it never disappoints. I really like taking people here, as somehow, most of the people I suggest it to have never been. I find that I can go on a Wednesday afternoon or a Friday night and get a seat regardless. I think that’s the best part considering I generally seek out a) somewhere to sit and b) somewhere that I can have conversation and still hear the other person talking. The soundtrack is always awesome. The bartenders are extremely friendly and attentive. There’s table service(and couch service… my preferred seating arrangement). The cocktail list is innovative and extremely tasty. I’ve tried every drink thus far, but the Corpse Reviver takes the cake. It reminds me of lemonade. Even the cheapest bottles of wine are pretty solid in my book.

Let me preface this review by saying that I’m not generally much into going out for drinks at bars. I don’t generally enjoy the atmosphere of most bars, which often is dirty and loud, nor the clientele, which is often… similar. I’d never been to a wine bar before, so when my ex-bf decided he wanted to go to a bar one Fri. night a couple months ago, I figured I’d give the AWM a try, based on the opinions of other Unilocalers. When we arrived, we were seated at one of the small tables that line the wall opposite the bar. Perusing the menu, I decided to start by ordering a Riesling, since I was in the mood for something on the sweeter side, given the late hour, that I hadn’t had the dessert, and that the ex was in a cantankerous/defensive mood(though that’s another story). He decided to try one of the red tasting pairs, and although I’m not generally too big on red wines, I enjoyed comparing them, and actually kind of liked the milder of the pair(I don’t recall what type it was, unfortunately). We also selected two of the cheeses to pair with our wine(both of the cow variety, though I don’t recall which ones), and they were both very fresh, and went well with our wines. If the ex wasn’t in such a foul mood and we’d stayed longer, I would have definitely tried the chocolate plate – if I come back, I’ll be sure to order it next time. As it were, for my second round, based on the advice of other Unilocalers, I decided to try the giggle water, and it was a delight – very light and bubbly, albeit a bit on the tarter side. I really enjoyed the AWM’s laid-back atmosphere. Our server, who I suspect may have been the owner, was helpful and attentive. The paintings on the wall made for an interesting conversation topic to fall back on, given my ex’s taciturnity(is that a word?) – we found the one of the guy in the electric chair particularly interesting. My one complaint is that the oblong space is kind of weird, but I think the proprietor did the best she could with it. Everyone else seemed to be having a good time. Although in my case, the libations and atmosphere were superior to the company, I still very much enjoyed the AWM. I’d love to come back sometime with better company – I’m sure I’d enjoy it even more!
