The bartender is some kind of shaky fiend, but the owner was extra friendly.

My friends used to live in the loft above South Paw. They were always here and we’d always meet up. They have a great menu. wings, pizzas, 18in sandwiches, a great mix of appetizers(bacon cheeseburger egg rolls, pulled pork nachos) I’ve tried the Cuban Roll(HUGEEE& delicious), multiple flavors of wings, nachos as well as pizza. Loved all of it. Kitchen is open til 1am Friday and Saturday. :D

This is the place most people just walk by and never go in, and I was one of those people for a long time. They have awesome beer specials, friendly staff, and some of the best pizza on the south side! The wings are huge and it is a great place to go for Steelers and Penguins games!

Great food, great service, and great music! We were in Pittsburgh visiting from Baltimore and they had live music and good deals on their food and drinks. The cheeseburger egg roll and smoked chicken wings were amazing! Lisa and her husband were very nice and friendly. We’ll make sure to pay them a visit whenever we’re back in Pittsburgh.

The South Paw is a true«hidden gem» in Southside. It isn’t really hidden, but they’re fairly new(opened March 2015), still have a temporary sign out front and were not on my radar until recently when I went in for wings after consulting Unilocal. The place is really small and is mainly bar seating with a few small tables/high tops, so while it isn’t ideal for a large group, it is perfect for just hanging with a loved one or a few friends. It wasn’t busy when my boyfriend and I walked in, so we were immediately greeted by the friendly bartender who I later found out was actually the owner, Lisa. The bar selection was above average with a fully stocked bar and a few craft beers. I didn’t notice if there was wine or not, but there probably is. Lisa explained to us that even though the menu is mostly bar food, she tries to keep it fresher than normal by doing things such as smoking the wings(as opposed to frying) and using real cheese on fresh cut fries. We also got to hear how the bar got its name and why she got into the business, which is always a nice touch considering I’m a chatty Kathy and I like talking to strangers. We opted for wings and split an order of cheese fries with bacon. I was skeptical that the wings came with only 6 per order, but imagine my surprise when they came out and each piece was bigger than my fist. Neither of us could finish our entire order and had to take the leftovers home. I got garlic parmesan wings and it was the best garlic-parm I’ve ever had, swimming in garlic butter with huge chunks of parmesan on every piece. The fries were also awesome, nice and crispy and just generally delicious. I had ranch on the side and it tasted fresh and homemade. My boyfriend got a side of BBQ sauce and I did not like that because it was too spicy and not sweet enough for my liking. After eating, we played a few rounds of darts in the back and had another drink before heading out into the rain. When we cashed out, I was pleased with how fairly priced the South Paw is. A few nights ago, I stopped in for a drink with some friends very late and found the place packed wall-to-wall with people, but still got really good service. The South Paw is definitely going to be my new neighborhood haunt. Bonus: check under the bar for purse hooks

Small bar with very good homemade food. Wings were smoked not fried and delicious. Only 2 TVs so wouldn’t recommend watching a game here. Staff was extremely friendly. Small but decent craft beer selection.

if you want the best wings in south side(southside)… in pittsburgh… south paw is where you want to go!!! all i can say is… unbelievable!!! truly. the wings are«whole wings», smoked(not fried) and delicious. my husband and i are here watching the«stiller» game eating the wings and they are so good that i had to write a review. we were lucky enough to have lisa bartending. she’s wonderful… so friendly and fun. lisa and her husband guido opened south paw in march, 2015. i lived in south side and have been to a lot of places and south paw is a true gem. if you want to eat great food(not your typical bar food), watch any sport events, listen to the jukebox, enjoy the ambiance of a clean, fun pittsburgh sports bar, and be among friendly people, then come to south paw. a new hidden gem in south side that you need to check out for yourself. Unilocal to write a review.

The South Paw is what a bar on Carson Street should be. It celebrates Pittsburgh and our sports teams and has that South Side feel to it. Too many trendy(overpriced) places are opening up and the spirit of Carson is fading away. It is refreshing to see a place like this. Stop in and say hi to Lisa and Guido. You will also be pleasantly suprised by the menu. Not your average bar fare.
