My son was treated by Dr. Lessman for intermittent exotropia. He was given blue tinted glasses to wear, and we were told that his exotropia was related to his excitable personality, hyperactivity, etc. The glasses were supposed to calm him. Three weeks and $ 900 later, we were told that he was cured. Like all children with exotropia, his eye got progressively worse over the next year. My son was not cured, and after seeing an ophthalmologist — who actually specializes in exotropia — it was clear that tinted blue glasses were not going to cure him. Parents, beware: light therapy is highly contested by pretty much every scientific field. There have been no peer reviewed studies showing that this type of «therapy» actually has therapeutic value. Dr. Lessman preys upon a parent’s natural fear of their child having a surgical procedure by offering an alternative. My son saw three doctors after we went to Dr. Lessman because we wanted to avoid surgery if at all possible. The bottom line is that it wasn’t possible. But Dr. Lessman didn’t tell us that.
