West Elm

Love browsing here. I usually don’t buy but just love looking at how everything is set up. I particularly like how there’s a section here featuring local Pittsburgh artists. It’s great that Pittsburgh has Bakery square for a little bit of a modern techie San Francisco vibe.

We have this West Elm location in Bakery Square to thank for our dining table, matching bench, and 6 chairs. Paula assisted us through the entire process – browsing the store and then, later, ordering via phone and email when we decided to pull the trigger to take advantage of an online 20% off promotion that thankfully Paula was able to match. Paula was great.
Husband and I purchased the Emmerson reclaimed wood dining table in pine and in the longest length (87″) as well as the matching 73″ dining bench. (We passed on the $ 100 cushion for the bench.) If you’re into a rustic aesthetic then I highly recommend the Emmerson collection. The wood comes from shipping pallets – FSC-​certified, of course. A fun story to tell, and the variation in the color of the wood is fantastic. I also like that the texture is rough but not rough enough that splinters are an issue. We also purchased 6 Xavier chairs, metal and wood.
Loved that Paula was able to extend the 20%-off-original-prices online deal to us, resulting in substantial savings. Be warned though: the taxes, shipping, and delivery surcharge really add up. Check it out, the breakdown of our dining table and bench order follows:

I’d come to West Elm again for the right piece of furniture or for a special accessory. And you know how I am, no trip to any store is complete without a stop in the clearance section, and West Elm’s clearance section wasn’t too shabby.

I’ve always been a West Elm catalog girl and usually for a accent or unusual piece to finish off a room.
The Bakery Square store is compact and appears to be a full-​service room design establishment. They were definitely well staffed and the large open area highlighted everything from furniture to are to dining options. Very calm atmosphere.
Great options if you’re looking for an update!

Joan is the best! She was so much help with picking out our new living room furniture for our new house! She was very patient with my extremely indecisive husband. I also want to add that Jeff and Joan were so helpful with design ideas and color choices. We cannot wait to go back and buy more décor for our home and visit Joan again!
West Elm is my new favorite home store!

West Elm officially opened TODAY, and as one of the brand’s biggest fans, I was so excited to check out the store! The store wasn’t slammed — but definitely not quiet either — for it’s Thursday night opening. However, I expect that they will be hectic over the weekend as people venture to Bakery Square to check out the new location.
The store is large, well-​designed, and has an excellent selection. I think that this store definitely conveys the brand’s aesthetic and offers a good selection of products available, even though additional styles and colors are available online only.
I expected to be ignored since the associates would be overwhelmed during the grand opening. However, I was immediately greeted by someone as I entered the store (one of the managers, I think), and another associate named Rachel followed up with me as I was carrying around a couple of awkward items. While checking out, the man who helped me seemed a little overwhelmed by the cash register. I think this may be his first retail job, but he got through the transaction and apologized for the delay. Overall, I was very impressed by the courtesy and genuineness of the employees.
Here’s hoping I don’t spend every cent of my money shopping here. :)
