After a very long week and a lot of quick sandwiches, the family that was still in town decided to go out to dinner, and Red Dome was a great choice. We’d heard from an uncle earlier in the week that it was a really nice place and with a 6:30 reservation on a Saturday night, we headed towards Pittsfield’s square. Growing up in a small town in Missouri, I am pretty familiar with the layout of old town/county squares — a bunch of sleepy storefronts, most of them closed up by 5pm and not much to see other than some taxidermy or insurance salesman signs. The front of Red Dome stood out among these little shops as a more modern venue around the square, but stepping in the front door was a whole other experience. This place is huge inside — the throne-chair at the entrance is a fitting hint at what’s to come. We made our way back to a table by the fireplace and were quickly attended to by the staff. The modern décor, well-stocked bar and ample room throughout quickly made us forget we’d walked in out of the lazy rural Illinois evening. As is the case with small towns, it wasn’t surprising that many in our party knew a good portion of the staff as well as other diners around the room — and soon stories were being shared from the newer inductees to the family and the old salts of the town. The menu is diverse enough to please most carnivores, and we were satisfied with our veggie burger, sweet potato fries, and stuffed baked potato to only necessitate a couple of trips back to the salad bar. The little loaves of pumpernickel break and whipped butter were a great accessory to the meal as well. As we headed out into the evening we noticed a third area of the building being used for seating and marvelled at how they’d manage to utilize so much space in what appeared, from the outside, to be a small portion of an old country town building. Red Dome is another welcome surprise and will continue to be a treat when we come back to visit Ms. K’s family — thanks again for the great service and the wonderful meal!

Always have a good meal at this restaurant. Had good meetings, and meals at the old location on the west side of town before the move to the square.

Food is way over priced. 2 bowls of canned soup and sweet tea $ 11. Red dome needs the angry guy(drawing a black I the guy’s name) that fixes places going down the toilet.

Stopped in a few weeks ago while traveling for work because it looked like the best place on the street… and my guess was right! Food was great, super friendly staff and I ended up talking to the owner at the their bar for a while. Turns out he and his wife, long time Pittsfield residents, bought the place last year and its doing great since! Def worth stopping in for dinner or a beer! Btw, going back tonight again!

Good restaurant in a small town. Not what you would expect. The ambiance is very nice. The details in the interior are very nicely done. The menu is diverse, with plenty of choices, though the dinner item are a bit pricey. They were out of prime rib and cod at 6:00 on Saturday night, which seemed odd, considering prime rib is a Friday-Saturday only item. I wonder if they just didn’t make a prime rib because of the holiday weekend, as it was a bit slow. We had the apple and herb pork chops, which were very good. Two nicely done, center cut chops, with a delicious glaze. The sweet potato whip was good. Green beans were just green beans. Salad and roll were ordinary. We had onion rings as an appetizer. The portion was large, and the batter was good. The oil tastes a bit old. I bet they would have been top-notch with fresh oil. We’re glad we stopped. Nice place for a small town. Would have rated more stars if they had non-sandwich items less than $ 15.99−−24.99 on the menu.

The food has certainly improved with new ownership, we had vowed never to return but decided to give the new owners a chance while visiting during Thanksgiving and first deer season. I like the new menu items and the prices are more in line with other local restaurants now. My only critique would be that there was just one server running the bar and restaurant during a mid-week lunch shift. She did a really great job, but event the best server can’t keep up without support. Please support your waitstaff better i. The future and you might make a go of this.

We have been here several times since the newest owners took over, both for lunch and dinner and have been pleased each time. Service is very good as was the food. The menu is diverse enough to suit most and prices are right in line with similar restaurants.

Hallelujah, The Red Dome Inn is open with new owners. The Brewer’s are presently having a soft opening, meeting new friends and graciously serving great food and drinks. They will have a special menu for Valentine’s dinner and are taking reservations. The Grand Opening with full menu and hours will then come shortly. I can’t wait.

Great atmosphere, good food, but why not stay open late on nights there’s high school basketball in town? Instead I’m 10 cars deep in line at McDonald’s. A few of those people would probably throw some business your way!

The Red Dome has a lot of potential and with new owners. I hope that they live up to the potential. Right now, the food is WAY overpriced. It is insane. The quality of the food is not excellent but pretty good for the area. The portions that you get are usually very minimal and the prices are frightening. The steaks are usually cooked correctly which is a huge plus [I order medium-rare.] I would say with Giovanni’s gone, Red Dome is the nicest place to eat in Pittsfield.
