My boyfriend and I finally made a visit, to Los Gallos! We chose dinner, on a Sunday night. It’s in a relatively small strip small, near Van Buren and Orangethorpe. The center also has a post office and a handful of other businesses. When we walked in, we were surprised how large the inside was. There are many booths on both sides, lots of large windows, a bar, some big screen tvs, and more. The menu was quite extensive. Chips and salsa were brought out, and while it was too spicy for me, my boyfriend found it to have just the right amount of kick to it. We were given large waters to drink. I chose the #16 combination, which consisted of a chille releno, and 2 cheese enchiladas. It was so cheesy and good. We also had split the nachos and the guacamole was spot on, and the meat tender. The prices were fair and we look forward to dining here again, especially during football season, as their beer prices are reasonable.

We have been enjoying the authentic Mexican food at Los Gallos for more than fifteen years. This is a family owned and operated business not a franchise or chain. Their food is good all the time. We have moved to Temecula but when visit the area we make time to grab lunch or dinner there. The atmosphere is not why folks continue to eat there, it remains unchanged from the first time we ate there. The reasons are the food, their prices and the families hospitality. We have introduced many of our friends to Los Gallos. All are still regular customers. I don’t understand the few negative reviews, but tastes do vary and even the best of us can have an off day. I’d love it if they would remodel the restaurant but it might take away from the places charm. So I am good just the way it is. Tacos and enchiladas are my favorites. Their salsa and chips are fresh and tasty to. Maybe we’ll see you there. Rick H.

OMG! Just had the shrimp cocktail and it was delish! Didnt have to add my usual ketchup and hot sauce in it as it was perfectly seasoned just the way I like it. I will be coming back forsure.

Good Mexican food at very reasonable prices. Especially the lunch specials, all are good but love the cheese enchiladas. Their table chips are thin, crisp and fresh, the salsa that comes with them is very good with a nice kick.

We came this past weekend with a friend from Washington, he liked it so much we returned the following night with his nephew. We all enjoyed the chips and salsa, the great service, and some really good Mexican food. Heads up, they have a great Mexican shrimp cocktail…

I like this place. the combinations with arroz and frijoles are always fresh and tasty. I usually get the taco and enchilada combo or a couple of tacos dorado and a cold beer! there is a big selection on the menu and the staff are always friendly and quick to take care of me. this restaurant is not pretentious; it is just a good old neighborhood mexican restaurant that offers great quality, great taste, great value. I noticed a couple of «Meh» reviews. The staff is always nice, the food is always fresh and tasty and the price? always low(unless you are boozing it up) if you happen to find yourself in beautiful Atwood, CA and are looking for some good old fashioned mexican, give this place a try.

Meh, is a great word to use in describing this place. Service was good. Salsa was good. Prices were good. Food was disappointing. No flavor.(I had the beef/chicken enchiladas) TV’s were great to watch the football game!!!

Stopped by for lunch yesterday when I was in town doing some biz. This is an older restaurant with a laid back«old world mexican feel». If you want snappy, fake smile service and waiters that sing birthday songs with super glossy counters and floors then this might not be the place for you. I got the shrimp enchiladas(2) and they were excellent. Stuffed with shrimp and potato with a tangy tomatillo sauce. Came with chips, salsa, rice and beans. I was super full when I left. To me this place seemed like a mom and pop«El Torito» style place that caters to the gringo crowd more so then an authentic taqueria. But that’s ok. As an old gringo myself I like that sort of mexican fair at a reasonable price.

I don’t know about these negative reviews. Consider the fact that they have no history of giving other reviews. As for my first visit, my enchiladas Suisse were amazing! I really like this family owned business.

We came for dinner here with my family for the first time… definitely won’t be back. First off, the place was filthy. Walls were disgusting, and the menu had what looked like old salsa-smashed tomatoes and gunk as you opened it. Pretty bad! The service was terrible. The waitress had no personality, and could almost be considered rude by the looks she shoots from her face. Not pleasant. She appeared to be unhappy to be working. The food was mediocre… we ordered enchiladas and tacos. Pretty standard order, but the result was not that great when compared to other authentic restaurants. The salsa was terribly thin and flavorless. When asked if I could get a refill on my Shirley temple after having an empty glass for most of dinner, I was told they don’t have free refills for Shirley temples. That was pretty much the icing on the cake. Ridiculous for something that is so cheap for them. They must be buying some expensive grenadine. Long story short, I won’t be recommending this restaurant to anyone looking for good, authentic Mexican food. Not worth it in my book… keep driving.

Can’t get service. Asked two waitresses for help and they said wasn’t their table. Waited 10 minutes and left. Pretty sure no one notices.

Okay … First time for us. Read most comments and can’t believe why? Oh why? Would anybody give this place 3stars? You can’t beat the price, but they make up for it in extra charges? I ordered a carne asada burrito, the taste was meh? Had to spit out some old meat, not impressed at all ! Salsa was watered down, so I asked for a hotter salsa, the waitress said that she has to charge us extra ?? Really? Extra? for Hot Salsa? In an Authentic Mexican restaurant ??? The Menu says; «A Unique Mexican Restaurant ?? Well they are Unique ! And that’s coming from Mexican American !!! I’m done. Won’t be back. And yes, it’s Filthy check out the walls … If they can’t keep their place clean, how do they keep your food clean? Chew on that !

I’ll make this as short but thorough as possible… The crispy shredded beef tacos are very good! My husband loves the salsa and he is Mexican. The salsa is very thin but is fresh not from a can. Do Not and I repeat DONOT order the chile verde. Omg my meat had a green & rainbow tint to it. I was amazed that they would serve it to me rather than telling me that they were out.(Why serve spoiled meat??) I asked if I could exchange it for something else. No apology. Ordered the chile relleno burrito and it was pretty bad, too. None of the seeds were removed. Additionally, I got dirty looks from the man cooking the rest of the time we were there. Is it my fault you serve green meat? Ok I’m done.

You can’t go wrong with Mexican food. First timer here on a Thursday night and I enjoyed the food. I ordered their nachos for appetizers. Although I’ve tasted better, these are not all that bad. Rating 3⁄5. This plate is mounted with ALOT of cheese. However, you can tell it wasn’t your usual melted nacho cheese. This kind was more like pizza cheese where it stuck and string together. I still can’t figure out whether or not I’m a fan of that kind of cheese on my nachos. It just feels more like I’m having mini pizza than nachos. There is a layer of refried beans(I always prefer blk beans), guacamole is added on top sprinkles with pieces of tomatoes. For entrée, two enchiladas(one shredded beef, one shredded chicken), comes with a side of rice and refried beans(they do not carry black beans. Boo…) I really like the shredded beef enchilada, the rice was not moist enough for me, not too crazy about the refried beans so overall I would give this a rating of 2⁄5. It’s not bad for Mexican food but I had most definitely tasted better.

If you go in looking for hardcore, greasy, delicious Mexican food without the glitz and glamour — you will not be disappointed. Huge portions, tons of flavor, traditional home-style cooking here baby! Portions are huge and prices are low(lunch specials at about $ 6 including, beans/rice and chips/salsa). When you’re in the mood for some good old guilty Mexican eating, Los Gallos has your back!

My stepmom recently discovered this place and was raving to me about how great it was. Since my friend lives about one block from here, we decided to check it out last night. Décor — I don’t know when this place was built, the 70’s? The 80’s? Whenever it was, it hasn’t been updated since. Service — Our waitress was a ray of sunshine… just kidding. It was like we were bothering her by being there. Chips & Salsa — Very good, nice spicy salsa. They have signs all over the place that they will give you one refill for free and after that they will charge you $ 1 for more. Good thing we only refilled once! Prices — Very cheap. None of the combos were over $ 8 and I don’t think they had anything on the menu that was more than $ 10. Food — A-ok. I got the combo with a taco, an enchilada, and a chile rellano. I normally wouldn’t order a three item combo, but it was only $ 1 more than a two item, so I figured i’d go for it and have leftovers. The rice and beans were alright, not the best ever, but not bad. Kind of bland. The cheese enchilada was pretty boring as well, but it was ok. The shredded beef taco was great, if I come here again I will just stick to tacos. Very juicy and flavorful. The chile rellano was horrible, the batter was soggy and the thing tasted oddly like mushrooms. Stay away from that. The bill was $ 22 with two combos and two drinks. Not bad at all. This is an average place with good prices, I would probably try it again if at my friend’s house.

On my way to work one day I found myself with a huge craving for Mexican food and some time to spare. I remember my boyfriend saying that Los Gallos had good lunch specials, and I was in the area, so I stopped by. I sat down and told the waitress that I was in a semi-rush and asked what their most popular meal was. She said the enchiladas, so that’s what I went with. I was given chips and salsa, which tastes like grocery store tortilla chips and salsa, not fresh at all. Took 25 minutes for my enchiladas to come out, and the restaurant was completely empty. Right as she brought them out I asked for the check just to make the process faster. Looked at my enchilada, it looked unimpressive. Tried it, tasted equally unimpressive. Took a huge bite of beans, got a mouthful of bacon. As in a huge strip of bacon. I don’t eat pork. This was even more offensive because I specifically asked if there was any kind of pork in the beans before I ordered, and I was told that there wasn’t. Spit out the bacon, and tried the rice, hoping it would take the disgusting taste out of my mouth. The rice was completely tasteless. So I chugged my diet coke, which surprisingly tasted great. It took my waitress 15 minutes to bring out my check after I had made it apparent that I was in a rush, making me approximately 10 minutes late for work. I’ll stick to El Farolito.
