Progressive Martial Arts Academy

We are loving this Dojo! My 6 year old has been attending classes here for about a month and he cannot wait for his next class every week. Sensei Larry has a great teaching style and works with kids a little older and younger at the same time. He gets down on their level and works with the kids individually to make sure that they are each learning at their own pace. My son had no experience when he started classes here and he has made great progress. I love that he is learning the correct techniques and executions of the moves. All of the one on one teaching the kids get really shows. I would highly recommend this school to anyone looking for an activity to get their kids moving.

Sensei Larry and Sensei Vicki are awesome! My boys (ages 10 and 6, were 9 and 5 when they started) have been attending classes at this dojo since September 2014. They have never been so passionate about anything before coming here. Sensei Larry is very fair in his pricing, no contracts or any set amount of time you are committed to paying or having your child attend. His philosophy is to keep the kids engaged and build a love for Karate so they want to keep attending and working toward their next belt. Not to force the parents to keep bringing their kids. He will only promote them when they are truly ready, and charges very little for the promotion. By doing this, they are actually learning and perfecting their skills, not just being promoted to put a few extra bucks in his own pocket. He does a really nice ceremony for their promotions and even signs the boards after the kids break them. They also get certificates. This dojo is all about the art of Karate. Both Sensei Larry and Sensei Vicki do it for the love of the art and enjoyment of the kids. I couldn’t speak highly enough of this dojo!

My son has been attending classes with Larry for about a year now and it has been great. Larry is great with the kids, he is very patient, yet keeps them motivated and focused. It has been great, my son loves the classes and is always looking forward to going back because he has such a good time, highly recommend Larry

Sensei Larry Fouts was taught by Sensei William C. Ford and we have had the pleasure of having him assist Sensei Ford at the Kaizen Dojo. Two great sensei’s in one place who are both excellent with kids! Not only do they learn and have fun, but they feel safe and are able to ask questions. Suggestions are always focused on the positive and how to improve. Highly recommended to all ages and abilities!

My son is 4 years old and started taking karate here last December. I wasn’t too sure how it was going to go considering my son is very timid and shy about new things, but he LOVES it! Sensei Larry is so great with the kids! He’s very patient and encouraging. My son asks me everyday if it’s a «karate day.» We couldn’t have asked for a better place or instructor!

We have been training at Progressive Martial Arts and couldn’t be happier. My sons ages 11 & 14 have learned so much and have gained strength, skill, confidence and self discipline. The training with Sensei Larry has been excellent: patient, knowledgeable and consistent. We would highly recommend this dojo whatever level you come in at. They have a wide variety of class times, including daytime classes, perfect for homeschoolers. If you want an alternative to a commercial, non-​supportive environment this dojo is the one.

A great place to learn Karate or Aikido. I have been training here for 4 years and am very happy. I have trained at other dojo’s as well. This dojo teaches a true style of karate with a solid lineage. There is no money gouging, secret hidden fees, or big surprises. Just quality karate. You don’t get promoted every few months to pad the finances of the school. You promote when you are ready. Progressive Martial Arts is truly a refreshing place to learn Shorin Ryu Karate.

My 9 year old son started 9 months ago, a few months later I joined then my wife followed shortly afterwards. The Sensei’s (Teachers) are kind, upbeat, inspiring and amazing martial artists. Kaizen Karate Do & Kobudo has truly been like joining a family. Each and every person, from staff to fellow students, has made us feel welcome and at home.
