Doobies Dominican Place

Went to try this place out with my mom, horrible mistake. We wanted doobies, and I figured this place was worth a shot since it’s conveniently located right on Park Ave. First of all, it looks absolutely nothing like the pictures. I think the pictures are of another called called Doobie PALACE, which is a few blocks up on Watchung Ave. The salon is a complete mess, junk all over the place and super cluttered with a couple of styling chairs and dryers. Even though the place was kind of run down, we didn’t let it deter us — sometimes the hole-​in-​the-​wall places give you the best ‘do!
They charged my mom $ 20 and me $ 45. I have longer, thicker hair than my mom, but I’ve never paid this much for a wash and set. The ladies spoke in Spanish to each other most of the time we were there, but they were very nice. They told me they would just do a blowout on my hair because it would take too long to set my hair under the dryer and they were closing in an hour. Of course, I wasn’t told this until after having my hair washed and conditioned. If I had known in the beginning, we would’ve simply left. After roughly detangling my hair with the blow dryer (breaking/​pulling out perfectly healthy hair), she flat ironed it. That would have been okay, if my hair didn’t come out a flat greasy mess! My mom just pulled the pins out of her hair and hers was flat and greasy too. Now we both need to get our hair redone… complete waste of time and money. Don’t bother coming here.

I’ve gone here once and I have never been back. I stopped in to get my hair done. Regular doobie with a blow out for my daughter and I. Well when I left we both looked a mess. They do not put prices up and charge you like $ 25. Rediculousness. My roots were still puffy and my daughter being a curly girl, her blow out lasted one day when she can usually go two weeks. That was my first and last adventure there.

I stopped bye today to get my natural hair done. The owner was very nice and professional. She was very helpful and explained her products and technique to me before she started on my hair. Wow! What a great job. Love my hair again.

I just moved from PA and i stumble upon this little gem. It is open 7 days out of the week with different hours. The personel are friendly and courteous. It is not parking free friendly only pay meters. I dont know about kid friendly. It was snowing outside and they were still open at 2pm! It made my day. Got to go on my date
